I very excited to see how this game will work out. Seems interesting, hopefully it plays well on the 360.

I didn't think much of this "game" until the sizzle reel was shown at the Media Briefing. but then I was like wow with some of the sample games their testers made with it...

here's the trailer...

here's the excerpt from Major Nelson's blog (480/481) on Project Spark:

Major Nelson: yeah. When you what we look back at E3, I mean, you walked around and saw some of the great games. You mentioned Titanfall. Any other ones you’re excited about? Ryse? Project Spark?

Marc Witten: all those projects are great. Yeah. I mean, there were great games. To me, what I think is just amazing about this year is like just the energy in console gaming. The amazing games. This is the dawn of a new generation. You saw it everywhere. Everything from the great games that we had to a lot of stuff you saw in other people's booths. On ours, one that I'm really excited about is, on the other side is Project Spark. And I think this ability to create and sort of play through what your imagination is and really be able to program that experience, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. And I think the community power behind that is going to be great. I want to do it. I have kids. I want them to do it. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Eric Alan Neustadter: one of the things that a lot of people missed too was our announcement that Spark is going to be free.

Marc Witten: that's right, yeah. To get people in.

Eric Alan Neustadter: The things they showed, the community-built levels of “you can make a Geometry Wars,” “you can make a tower defense game”…

Major Nelson: yeah, I thought of you when I saw Geometry Wars, Marc.

Marc Witten: I thought of me when I saw Geometry Wars too.

Major Nelson: Space Invaders and all the rest of those there.

Marc Witten: I’m going to build my own sort of like “how many ways can you imagine pacifism,” right?

Eric Alan Neustadter: okay, and then I will beat your score and we’ll go.

Marc Witten: it’s good to have dreams.

This looks like a fun game. I want to see how easy it is to build these levels, since I never even attempted it when I played LBP.

Project Spark was demo'ed at the Build 2013 conference! A strange place to show it, but I guess it's because they wanted to show the cross-platform environment and how it uses Azure as the backend.

You can design and play across Windows 8, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Even start building a game in Windows and then continuing to build and finish it on the One, for example. It even lets you create a touchscreen game (they were creating the game on the One and then playing it back on SmartGlass or a Win8 PC with touchscreen).

found a couple cool sites on Project Spark, including forums:

building a tower defense game completely from scratch in an hour and a half... pretty great for such a short time. it took me weeks to build the Enterprise in Minecraft. smile.gif

Microsoft has announced Kinect capture features for upcoming world-building game Project Spark.

They will let players use Kinect to capture facial animations, body motion, voice and sound to create custom character animations, dialogue and cinematic cut scenes.

That sounds very cool. You could make animated movies which is how I'd do it.

What would be great is if you could make some Kinect games. smile.gif

demoing the Kinect motion capture! I'm going to use it to make animated movies! tongue.gif

http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/22/project-spark-eyes-on/

Project Spark lets you build the game, add character with Kinect (eyes-on)

Something we heard about back at E3 initially, and something we've been itching to see in action ever since -- Project Spark. We made sure we got to have a look at how it works, and some of the new features. So, click past the break if you want to know too.

It's likely that even the most casual of gamers has, at some point, thought how cool it might be to build their own game. So, it's no surprise that something like Project Spark is capturing people's imaginations. We got to see a real "world" being built on the fly, complete with characters, bad guys and game mechanics. Oh, and some of that reported Kinect motion and voice recording, too.

The basic game-world building tools seem wonderfully simple to use. We watched as our hosts drew platforms and rock faces as is painting with a brush. Adding environmental trappings was just as simple. Whether you want your world to be harsh desert, lush jungle or a combination of everything in between, you have the power. Likewise, there are tools for smoothing off or ruggedizing the surface for added realism / style.

As you might imagine, building a game is pretty simple. You can drop in monsters, opponents and so on with ease. Adding logic is also painless, thankfully. The appropriate menu shows you a list of control combinations in icon form (such as thumbstick + direction =) and you simply add the desired action -- in this case, move. This same pick-and-choose style menu system has everything you want to create your game, and that includes geographical features, character powers, game dynamics, behaviors and more.

Up to this point, this mechanism might sound like a "sim" game in and of itself, and that's not entirely unwarranted, but it's a few of the Xbox One specific features that elevate this up from competent game designer, to a genuinely creative tool. Those features are the motion tracking and facial recognition utilities.

Using the new HD Kinect, Project Spark lets you record motion sequences that you can then overlay onto your characters, whether they be gargoyles or assassins. This goes even further when you add in some facial movements or voice recordings. In practise, this worked really well. Our demonstrator went in full-bore with an ogre like stomping motion, complete with gruesome facial moves, and seconds later the onscreen beast was doing just the same. You can even record in a sequence, and watch it run back in real time, while you adjust the loop length and in / out points to get the menacing stride just right.

Within just a few short moments, we'd gone from flat island, to textured, multi-environment game space with opponents, game strategy and special powers. This, combined with Xbox One's Kinect input enhancements instantly makes this an even more compelling option. Naturally, you can share your creations, co-operate on projects over the cloud and create worlds as large as you want. The worlds you create do technically have a maximum size, but they can then be stitched together for seamless transitions, so there's plenty of space for your creativity to spill out. You have to provide the spark though. Check the video below to see the Kinect recording in action.

You should check out Windows 8.1. A huge improvement on Windows 8. Even little touches that you didn't think would need improvement were added, especially for KBM users. Like in Win8, to bring up the charms with the mouse, you had to move the mouse cursor to the top or bottom right corner and then move toward the middle of the screen. and the charms are exactly in the middle of the screen which means you had to move the mouse a lot. But with Win8.1, if you move to the top right corner, the charms will be closer to the top right corner so you don't have to move the mouse as much. If you move the mouse cursor toward the right bottom corner, the charms will be near the bottom right corner.

And now, you can actually multitask well with the new Metro apps, even across multiple monitors.

I installed 8.1 on my wife's laptop. Problem is I barely use it since I use mine all the time. I plan to install Win 8 on my next gaming rig that I build (whenever that will be) since I think games between Xbox One and it will cross pollinate in the future.
