It does sound as though they're all available all month, not one game at the beginning and another at the end.

It doesn't sound like you'll lose access to those games if you've already DLed them, just that the windows of opportunity to get them closes after a month.

I didn't mean to imply that you'd lose access to any PS+ freebie you'd already "purchased"; that blog entry urges people to get them by the end of the month, signing up to get them if you were on the fence. It also points out that you don't have to download them; I've taken four or five without downloading them. (It's also true of XBL; I've bought several things through their web page which were on sale that I haven't downloaded yet, though you do have to go to your download queue after buying them to remove them).

Ah, ok nevermind...that's what I thought you meant by semi permanent collection.

I meant the PS+ "Instant Game Collection" ; by semi-permanent I was referring to the fact that the better full titles in it would eventually go away, though there was no telling when.

There is telling when, they changed it so it is completly predictable.

Did MS ever say that there would be two, new, XBOne games with Gold titles each month? I'm just glad that there will be one title next month that I don't already own. I figured it would have been a title like Crimson dragon or something else that I already own.

I guess they never did. It's just hilarious how begrudging it feels, like they're being dragged kicking and screaming into it.

I think that it's just a matter of supply. There are a total of 62 available Xbox One games, versus 620 Xbox 360 games available as DDs. I don't know what kind of deal they have to make with publishers/developers to make these things temporarily available for free to Gold members; if it was my property, I'd want to be paid something for every copy licensed. Max is an MS Studios publication (as is Spartan Assault), no doubt simplifying their offering of it.

There's more than 2 new games every month though, it's not like they're going to run out.

I dunno, it's like they've got this pathological inability to recognize they're the underdog now. I'm assuming they don't want to sell less consoles than Sony, so why do they think they can offer people less and still compete? What are they waiting for? If Sony can make a deal to get something new like strider, why can't they?

Strider was just on sale last week so I can see that one not being free with gold this month.

Agreed. There are only few games available, and they are giving away what is generally considered a good game. Sometimes gamers just come off as spoiled brats. There will be three new games for next month to pay for no additional fee. That sounds good to me.

The entire attitude that console sales is some sort of race is irksome. The question is not whether they're doing better than Sony, but whether they're doing well in their own right. I'd say that the answer to that is yes, surprisingly much so given that they've been competing with a machine priced 20% higher to this point. Is Sony's doing better than them likely to drive them out of the market? No. There are some things that Sony has been doing that they certainly should do and indications are that they will doin the future (DD pre-orders w/pre-order bonuses, for instance). Just how many console sales do you think that they could garner by improving their monthly free offers to Gold members? There's nothing that Sony has offered thus far to PSN Plus members for PS4 that I'd have bothered to get (though I've taken several of the PS3 things, many of which have been AAA full game titles).

Sony has steadily reduced the things that they used to be lauded for to parity with MS' way of doing things: no more free online play, no more persistent library of PSN+ freebies. MS has adopted Sony's mandatory continued subscription to Gold to use the GwG XB1 freebie games and has taken all of the streaming apps out from behind the paywall.

Well, I use this as an example of the many things they've been slow to change. I'm not trying to start a console war, I don't really care for the PS4 all that much. But ask yourself this....do you think MS really wants to sell less than Sony? I think it's pretty obvious they don't, otherwise they wouldn't have been making all these changes in response to their comparatively slower sales. I highly doubt they're in this for mere survival. Is Sony going to drive them out? No. But Sony selling more PS4s is pretty rock solid evidence that they're doing something that's resonating with the market that microsoft isn't. It's not just one thing, it's a lot of little things, and this is one of them. Right now they're selling a less powerful box for the same price, and offering less while charging more for a pseudo-mandatory subscription service. They're turning the tide but they're not gaining ground - between now and fall 2015 there really aren't any announced exclusive games that look like a massive system seller on either side. So there's no reason to believe the trend is going to change unless they make the case for the xbox on a much broader level. Even if that's something as simple as a price drop or offering more with live.

And if you're invested in the xbox ecosystem, their position in the market should matter to you - the console that owns more of the market will be the lead platform that devs target. The PS3 got a lot of sh*tty ports last gen, because the xbox was a bigger deal.

People, people, people, quit your bickering! You've completely glossed over the point that we are getting Guacamelee! for free. I only played the game briefly during the brief time I've spent with the PlayStation Now Beta, but I was pretty excited to revisit it when it came out on the One next week. Now I don't have to pay for it. If you've not tried it yet on the PlayStation, I think you guys are gonna enjoy this game, especially for the price.

Now back to your bickering.

This thread kind of reminds me of the early days of the 360 when we used to wait around with baited breath to see what original Xbox titles MS would make backwardly compatible, only to then complain bitterly when our favorites weren't on the latest list.

I have concluded that most of the internet is about as pleasant as having a sharp stick poke you in the eyes over and over (but at least the end result with the stick is that you can no longer read the internet).

Yea, I remember those days very clearly (Was a big original Xbox fan), Waiting for the games hit "compatibility mode" on the 360, and when they did, a good % of them were buggy, crashed and buttons were not lined up right.

You also had to prey if that game you loved was one of those top AAA games, because if it wasn't, you couldn't count on playing it on the 360...

I wonder....now talking about the original xbox, the chip set on the Xbox one is the same as the Xbox (Xbox 360 is PowerPC). It would of been funny if someone at MS enabled all these games for the heck of it...

Maybe if I boot up my xbox one tonight, I will dump in the original Halo for the Xbox...

I missed the sale on Stryder last week, I was kind of hoping it would be the free one this month....oh, well, maybe next month..

I wonder if they will hold over Crimson Dragon for the month of September since we are only supposed to get one game a month. I imagine one of the games for Sept would be Dance Central Spotlight.

Dishonored for 360 is a good game; averaged 90% score in 38 press reviews on GameRankings. I enjoyed it.

Thanks jhoff80!

Glad I held off on Crimson Dragon (huge SEGA Panzer Dragon fan), it was hard to resist and I'm just as thankful for holding onto the 360. Dishonored will be great, just need to find time to play it.

Yeah, maybe. At $10 for 10 songs it's almost free-to-play; if Harmonix makes any money on it it'll be on DLC.

I would gladly pay Harmonix any asking price they want if it helps fund other projects.

I want to see a next gen version of Rockband ASAP.

Any company that can pull off a Beatles license, not too mention so many other great bands, and an overall gaming experience like they did last gen are truly gaming gods. I'm still in awe all of this time later that I can pull a game off the shelf and actually "play" Beatles songs myself, albeit poorly. Really incredible.

It's the freaking Beatles man!

If only Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd (on the extremely unlikely end of the scale) would jump on board, music games are probably dead otherwise.

I suspect that all of Harmonix's other little projects combined (Amplitude, Chroma, Disney Fantasia Evolved, Record Run and VidRhythm) are not promising to be anywhere near as profitable as the Rock Band series. They had to do a kickstarter for Amplitude; I fear for their survival.

The question is whether the time if right for a new version of RB. I personally just want new DLC; the game itself is fine by me. The problem with moving it to the new gen is porting the existing library of on-disc and DLC songs, as well as letting current fans use their large investment in peripherals.
