I've only listed studios with either multiple franchises or multiple high ranking games. Let me know if I forgot one.

Based on a total of a whopping 9 votes and 38 page views? If anything, either people don't like the choices in the poll or don't care about polls in general on here.

The 5.0 is here

Halo technically isn't an FPS, it's a third-person shooter

Also, Ubisoft didn't invent Far Cry, they bought the franchise (and royally screwed up 2, though 3 is apparently super good)

At least Halo was original. Players kept clamoring for co-op play for years to deaf ears from the likes of Ubisoft, then suddenly Halo comes in, listens to the fans, and actually innovates, then Ubisoft copies them. They have a few of their own IPs but they're basically The Borg, they assimilate, the incrementally upgrade, but it's taken them ten years to get a decent FPS. They used to play Far Cry 1 at lunch break, FC 2 was shite and everybody knew it. The problem was the producers and executives, they have this holier than thou infallible mentality that only does the right thing eventually, begrudgingly -- and only after exhausting all other possibilities.

I personally hate third person shooters the way they stand now, they're all scripted and silly controls, very disassociated from the action, and slow. Compared to Prince of Persia 1, all the rest were very weak in comparison to what a single russian programmer made all on his own. (if I remember correctly).

Halo is absolutely a FPS. You can only see the gun and the hud is as if you were looking through the shield on his helmet. Maybe you are thinking Gears of War?

When I picked up Battlefield 3, I honestly didn't know what I was in store for (it was my first Battlefield game).

Dice really got this game right. I can't imagine there is a better FPS game out there as far as the gun play dynamics. The gun play alone should make it the best, but it also has incredible vehicle game play.

I feel like those that dismiss in favor of other shooters are truly missing out on a very well put together game. I really think the game physics have got to be the best out there.

I searched YouTube real quick for a couple of montages and here are 2 good ones:
(BTW, they are both community videos and are not from Dice / EA.)

This 2nd one really deserves a watch to the end.

But honestly, these montages still do not do the game justice.

I'll have to try battlefield, I haven't played it since number 2 on the PC when before it was Dice.
If its anything like bad company when it comes to destructible environments I should love it.. I'll probably pick up a copy when it hit's DD. One of the things I love about company and Crysis is the feel of the guns. Their loud an where applicable echo, suppressed weapons emit a tiny little "pit" sound.

I picked EA due to Battlefield. I have never played a game for almost two years until BF3. It is a great FPS. It has it flaws, but I have preferred BF3 over all of the other shooters I have played this gen (Call of Duty, Killzone, Gears of War (not FPS, but close enough), Halo, Homefront, and Crysis).

Bad company 2 is the best fps. BF3 is a distant 2nd. I do like a few features bf3 added, vehicle disable, disarm mcom. The fact that you can put c4 on a mcom in a defensive move and not harm the mcom makes no sense. Farcry campaign is fantastic, multiplyer is mehhhh.

Of the ones you listed I would choose Borderlands 2 and Battlefield 3.

Borderlands I personally find to be a lot more entertaining but I tend to enjoy more arcade like games.

Battlefield is kinda like an arcade version of Arma and I dont feel like Dice really knows how to classify it either. I enjoyed the older Battlefield games more personally.

No option for Doom - which remains to this day the most badass FPS ever, ever.

Meh - ID changed the game for everybody in terms of popularizing 3D graphics in games and shooters in particular, and they get credit for that, but in recent memory I can't say any Doom or even any ID game is really impressed me at all. Like not at all in this gen or even really in the last gen.

XBOX 360 - KrazeeEyezKeith

PS4 - KrazeeKeith

Sorry, I wasn't aware their was a Doom this gen. There was Duke Nukem Forever which I forgot to list through it's been quite sometime since its predecessor unless you count the Xbox live arcade version which is quite fun.

I got RAGE on Steam's Summer sale and it was OK....I played about 30-45 minutes of it and then stopped. The graphics in it were great but the gameplay was boring as all get out.

Halo 1 multiplayer 2v2 takes the most amount of skill. A new player could play for years and still not get a single kill against Tom and Dan Ryan, two kids who got paid millions to dominate at halo.

None of the above.

Everyone knows Valve makes the best first person shooters. Hell, titanfall-- the new game from the much talked about respawn entertainment-- runs on source (the engine powering such Valve classics as half-life, portal, team fortress, counter strike and left4dead.)

+1

I'm really looking forward to Titanfall.
