here's the debut of the new Glacius character at EVO 2013:

it's weird. the link says:
Killer Instinct Panel will be on Channel 3 at 4PM Sunday (PDT)
but the diagram says channel 1...

Cool. I think it's going to be a great game. The original did seem to have a darker feel IMHO but the combos look nice. I'd also like to see the original on XBLA for the Xbox One and 360.

Yes, having both earlier games on Arcade would be a god send. I'm hoping it happens, no reason it can't. To be able to play an arcade perfect KI2 would be insane.

agreed, also don't know why they went with the "zoomed in" look. the camera is a lot closer than the original.. not sure why they changed that..

I don't think it's necessarily that the camera is zoomed in more than the characters are larger. The wider screen helps with that though. The problem with the originals were the characters were so low resolution that zooming in further really pixelated them. I like the new look but can see how people might be put off by it.

This is will be a day one purchase for me. I've always enjoyed the KI series and these graphics truly seem next gen.

While shooters & multiplayer online gaming make up the vast majority of my current gaming time. Fighting games like KI have always been about quick & immediate fun that can be shared with friends of all gaming experience. Whenever you have a bunch of friends over, they make for great, instant entertainment with short matches that give everyone an opportunity to play & win. I can already see KI playing on the big projector screen in my basement, with the surround sound & subwoofer pounding. And a bunch of my drunk friends watching some girl who has never even played the game before, push buttons really fast and kick some guy's azz who is supposed to be an expert at the game. Moments like that, take the energy level up tons at parties and make for good old fashioned endless fun.

I remember so many moments exactly like that. As friends played Dead or Alive: 4 on my OG Xbox, in 480p on my RCA rear projection HDTV with 5.1 surround sound. And people literally fighting over the controller arguing about who has "next". Considering this was way back in 2001.. I cannot put into words exactly how "next-gen" those experiences felt. As it was very rare for someone to experience resolution, graphics & sound like that almost 12 years ago. Even more impressive considering it was in someone's home.

Fighting games, friends & some adrenaline (or go-go juice) never fail to entertain a crowd and are a big reason why fighting games were so popular in arcades in the mid to late 90s. 3 minute matches of straight adrenaline & aggression.

I liked the zoom in/out idea, as you could make the playing field larger. I will definitely buy it, but it does resemble Street Fighter a little too much in terms of cartoony look and speed.

cool use of the controller pairing with the Kinect. when you pick up the controller, it automatically remaps the buttons to your preference as well as potentially allow you to pick your favorite character.

you hand the controller to your friend and it loads his mappings and preferences. even midfight, you can hand the controller to someone and it'll tailor it to that person.

You mean it does more than just have prettier graphics.

Sounds. Truly next gen.

On a serious note. This is a very cool feature. No need for all the sign in/sign off crap. Pretty awesome that the system just notices you.

I was also a huge KI fan, I can't imagine how many quarters I dumped in the arcades on this one.

I played exclusively as Glacius and Sabrewulf, although I like Sabrewulf's new look, Glacius is a bummer. I always enjoyed his smooth liquid metal style, with his melt uppercuts. He looks totally goofy now, like a bad alien from a B movie - all skinny and bizarre.

See I'm the opposite. I like the new look. He looks far more alien in this game. Of course in all fairness this could be a different Glacius. The two first games were different characters so it's possible.

Also, Chief Thunder? Hell yeah. More glowing mohawk please!

I always did well with T.J. Combo and Chief Thunder. Sabrewulf had some nice cheap shots if things got out of hand. I loved the cut scenes after a win, especially Chief Thunder's when he's doing his chant. Miss that game!

I was a big a fan of Glacius too. My alternate players were Jago and Fulgore. I liked Spinal for trolling, he just sounded funny to me for some reason with his various yells while fighting. Didn't play KI2 as much as the first. Is the "counter breaker" something new to the series?

The combo breaker was around in the first games, and actually really limited the big combos. Anyone who knew the timing of them made for a pretty tough match, since you had to keep your combos short. Again, back in the day of quarters only, there was a period of time where my friends and I would actually do combo-breaker matches. Back in the day of stacking quarters on the machine, and staging close games and losing a round or two here and there to make sure that your quarter lasted longer. All in good fun, keep the quarter going and no need to pummel someone who's new to the game.

Counter Breaker is a new addition. Combo Breakers are still part of the game.

The sounds effects and announcer voice is so awesome in the original. Glad the series is making a return.

Whoops, I misread "counter" as "combo"! I stand corrected!

Maybe this will feel a bit more like the DOA counter system.

Either way, thanks for the clarification weber.

Np. I'm interested myself to see how this counter system works. If it's something akin to DOA then cool. I never got into the SF counter system.

Pretty cool about the dynamic music. Adds a sense of depth no one really ever thinks about. Only thing cooler would be if they had a version that mixed the theme of each character depending on who had the upper hand. That might be too complicated though. Still, just something else that makes me want to play this game. Now if we could see more stages and characters.

I was browsing a KI fan site and saw this video. It's hilarious:

it's from Maximilian, head of Online Warrior Productions, who's one of the biggest KI fans around (though he covers fighting games in general).

You want to see some dominance watch Ken Lobb beat all challengers on the Mad Catz E3 feed. To be fair the game is early early and he's had more access to it but still funny to see him beat Ryan Hart and Kayane among others so handily.

didn't know anything about Ken Lobb before you mentioned him (with a little googling afterwards):

he has a huge game developer history!

Yeah he's one of the good guys in the industry. Its cool to see him still be doing what he loves all these years later. I remember his early days with Rare and Nintendo and thinking what a cool guy he was because he wasn't some stuffy suit, he spoke to us gamers.
