I thought we could make a thread about and of great single player/story mode/campaign games.
It doesn't have to be single player only but has to have a great single player element.

I thought I'd start the thread off with

Tomb Raider Underworld

It makes for a great change of pace from all the great 360 FPS's. There is gunplay. But most of the game is about exploring and figuring out where and how to get to place's. I've noticed there's multiple way's to achieve/get to a place.

Another great one (and another cheapie thought DD)
Is Crysis 2 You can play it any way you want (most of the time) You can go in guns blazing. Or you can sneak by, or stealth kill. But you do have to think and be tactical about your decisions and how to use the environment to your advantage. A really cool component is you can change your gun on the fly, such as taking off or adding a suppressor (silencer) or adding a red dot/laser or a scope.

List

Tomb Raider Underworld
Cyrsis 2
Halo CE
Halo 3
Halo 4
Max Payne 1, 2, 3
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman:Arkham City
Gears Of War 1, 2
Dead Space
Morrowind
Skyrim
Mass Effect 2
XCOM
LA Noir
Shadow Complex
Far Cry 3
Far Cry Tiger Blood
Prince of Persia
Fable 2, 3
Grand Theft Auto 4
Dark Souls
Just Cause 2

I should add
Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2 what I believe to be some of the longest single player campaign modes of a modern shooter. They are both FPS's and have highly destroyable environment's. Want to flank a turret but there's a house in your way? Simple blow hole in the house with a grenade from your assault rifle.
I haven't been able to beat either in an afternoon unlike the Halo 3 or 4 which can easily be beaten in an afternoon especially on co-op

I'm really enjoying the story in Max Payne 3. It's got great gunplay mechainc's and is the first one in my experience where you don't have to enter bullet time for every fight.

If it's an all-time thing I would say of the games I've played I enjoyed these stories the most: the original Max Payne on Xbox, the original Splinter Cell on Xbox, COD MW, GOW 1 and 2, Halo 3, Dead Space, Elderscrolls Morrowind (...whatever the first 360 one was)

Ones I haven't myself played yet but am excited to try: Bioshock, Fez, Mass Effect 2, Batman Arkham Asylum/City, XCOM, LA Noir, and Shadow Complex, Far Cry 3, Far Cry Tiger Blood or whatever it's called, and Max Payne 3.

Why would you not enter bullet time for every battle....?biggrin.gif

Good Point on the Max Payne series...I was assuming 360 games only here...
If if's "all-time" I would have to enter the Prince of Persia series (sans 4 and 5 of course)

I was thinking games that we can play on 360. Max Payne 1 & 2 are DD if you want them.

What ever happened to the prince of Persia series? It came and went before I even played it.

Was big on PS2, only got one entry this generation, which was a total reboot that got a mixed reception. I kind of liked it.

Recently I have gone on a rampage and picked up a bunch of games for cheap that I passed over. Far cry 3 has been great, just got gears 2 and 3, fable 3, Dkyrim and a few others. Trying to get through a bunch this summer before GTA5 and Xbox One launch this fall. So I am ending this gen with a bang. So glad to have so many good games to play. This has been a great gen but glad to be getting new hardware finally.

I am hoping the last of us goes on sale soon. I hate the PS3 controller so much I don't like paying full price for games, lol.

Yeah I hate the PS controller as well. I hope it goes on sale for you, and well the rest of us. I updated the first post with all your recommendations folks. I'm really enjoy Tomb Raider Underworld, has anyone played the other one( I can't remember what its called)

It looks like the new Tomb Raider is going to be dark, gritty and big on gun play. I'm very disappointed, why does everything have to be dark and gritty? I'm loving the fact the tomb raider is a nice break from things like Max Payne.

Yes the new Tomb Raider is dark and bloody.

I'd add to the list Dark Souls if you like action RPG's. It has a very well crafted world full of awesome fantasy atmosphere that all intertwines. The gameplay is great.

I am having a lot of fun with just cause 2. Found it for $20 and it is very worth that money.

I might have to give Just Cause 2 a shot. From what I recall, it looked a little like Mercenaries + Far Cry 3? I really enjoyed both of those games, so I'm thinking that Just Cause 2 might be a fun one to pick up.

Pandemic Studios was bought by EA. They released Mercenaries 2, but then the studio was closed in 2009. No more Pandemic, no more Mercenaries. frown.gif

Huge bummer. The Mercenaries series felt like it had some serious legs, even though Mercenaries 2 sales numbers weren't stellar and reviews, although positive, weren't up there with the first game. But can you imagine how out of control Mercenaries 3 for the Xbox One could be? Wowzah.
