This is true; it's a really unbalanced power. You become more or less invincible, particularly if you're all decked out in gear which maximizes focus and health capsules, amounts, gains and duration, like my character is. If you're not careful, some enemies who weren't in range when you invoked focus can sneak up on you but all you have to do is invoke focus again before the capsule you're burning runs out. There's plenty of focus to go around, since Jupiter's "gift" is greater focus gain.

I usually rotate through the gods from round to round, though I've stopped using Diana. Her "force push", though it looks cool, does almost no damage except for causing environmental kills by forcing enemies into spikes, pits and traps, for which you gain very little.

For a long time I actually thought Diana's force push gave a lot of XP for it, and it's why I got so stuck on it (and still am). It was only when you and a few others on this forum opened my eyes to Jupiter that I realized how little XP the force push gives.

I do still enjoy it as a game mechanic - angling my gladiator so I can get someone to get stuck on a wall, or forced into a pit, or caught and burn on a wall of flaming bales. smile.gif

Unfortunately it just doesn't give much XP back, and it doesn't help combos - it actually seems to hurt them - since the moment you use it your combo string starts to flash.

I don't know what they could do about a difficulty level other than make the barbarians take more damage before dying...but that'd just prolong what's already happening, it wouldn't really make it any harder!

I just want the enemies from Legendary difficulty; they're significantly harder to kill. For instance, it takes a couple of pilum hits to kill a minion, but one will make him immediately executable. It also might throw in more of the tougher enemy varieties, make the enemies' attacks more damaging and make them throw in more heavy attacks, forcing you to learn to use dodges and perfect deflects. There's very little that else that can be done in a game to make it harder, other than maybe taking away capabilities (Legendary mode kind of does that, by reducing health and focus gains).

Try playing through the SP campaign again on Legendary difficulty--it really makes it a quite a bit more challenging and fun. Sadly, it would be difficult to do from scratch with an un-leveled-up character.

Great point about the pilum damage. It would actually be pretty cool if there was a game mode that removed powers - or something of that nature.

I've almost finished the game on Legendary, just need to go through the last chapter. As with almost every game, I've enjoyed it on the hardest setting. If a game is done well, and the difficulty setting is balanced properly, I always feel that the hardest setting is the truest version of the game. So far it seems that way in Ryse as well.

It does make sense that Legendary was locked out first go through, to your point it would be almost impossible to get through the game without the character leveled up. But still, it really makes you think when you fight - you can't just button mash and make it through a battle.

I gave Survival a shot again last night and was matched to a player who was level 135 or something. This time it was a much more enjoyable experience, since we kept our distance when required, and then teamed up when we needed to. I could tell we were watching each other life bars, when he was injured I'd set up someone for him and vice versa. That mode seemed to dole out a ton of XP, perhaps it's the way to go if you're trying to level up quickly?

On a side note, any idea what level unlocks Tier 6?

Maybe "Godless Mode"? biggrin.gif

I'm stalled there as well. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I really hate that "Barbarians at the Gate" (or whatever it's called) scorpio segment--I hate the scorpio segments in general, but that one seems to go on forever, with Vitallion yelling at you, "Marius do this!", "Marius don't do that!". Enduring that for several minutes only to fail because I let an elephant sneak by truly sucks. It is the single most un-fun part of the game.

I have no idea, that tier is new. It must have been added with that last DLC pack, as well as the option to buy potions alone. (Man, I would have loved to be able to buy elixirs by themselves early on; now my attributes are beefy enough that it hardly matters, at least for solo play). I hadn't noticed, having only played one round of Gladiator since starting to replay the game on Legendary. Whatever the rank required to buy tier 6, I've passed it at rank 202. I might slug through a bunch of rounds to generate enough coin to buy some of it. I hate it, though, when I splurge 4200 coin on a tier 5 gold booster pack which doesn't contain anything that I want rolleyes.gif.

I finished legendary the other night, I was lucky enough to get through the barbarians at the gate segment on the last chapter first try. This time I only fired upon individuals and elephants marked by the eagle above them - I ignored everyone else.

From what little I can find online, hitting level 130 may unlock tier 6.

I've been saving my coin and have barely purchased anything, simply because the amount of coin you make vs. the time to make it feels pretty big. I didn't want to get to tier 5 only to realize it'll take me 5-10 rounds to get 4200 (or whatever it is) gold to unlock three new shields and wind up only using one! I probably won't buy anything until I reach tier 6.

Now that I get survival mode, I'm enjoying it. The only challenge I have is that my kids tend to wake up at random times, it's awful to be playing on a public with someone for 15 minutes only to have one of my girls wake up and I have to watch my character get hammered. frown.gif Feel bad for myself and my counterpart!

I finally realized what was making me fail that segment--the game was not recognizing my "Fire Volley!" command. When I used the LB to do it (waiting several seconds for it to ramp up) it worked, making things a lot easier.

I've spent 4200 coin on some tier 5 gold packs a couple of times and not used anything. It's pretty disgusting, but that's life in the big city. You could always spend real cash for coin biggrin.gif.

I popped the game in again recently and noticed that there are now Tier 6 items (4200 for gold level items). Unfortunately I refuse to spend real money for coin and the rate at which you accumulate coin is pretty slow in-game.

I really wish Crytek would offer a few more single player arena levels as that would at least encourage me to play the game every so often.

I got no idea how I'd do that. The system understand my commands to it just fine. Strangely, it recognizes "Archers, cover me!" much more readily.

I finally finished the game on Legendary difficulty; I enjoyed it the 2nd time around. I'm disappointed that I didn't reach the final rank; you must have to pick up all the collectibles or something. For some reason I got a 30 gamescore point achievement called "Bad to the Bone" which is labelled "Complete the Game on Centurion Difficulty". There's also a 5 point "Settling Old Debts" achievement" for completing the game on Legendary; maybe you get the Centurion one for completing the game on Centurion or Legendary, then an additional 5 points for Legendary.

I played enough solo gladiator mode to buy a tier 6 silver pack. You get 50 gamerscore points for the first round you play equipped with any tier 6 item. I notice that there a slew of new potions available and you can purchase packs of them separately. Besides the old Elixirs of Focus and Vitality, there are now Elixirs of Mars, Resiliency, Courage and Revival; "Revival" is only usable in a co-op match. The Elixir of Mars makes your every blow lethal for a while, Resiliency makes you untouchable for a while and Courage makes enemies more aggressive for a while. Revival lets you bring yourself or your partner back from death to five capsules of health. Why exactly you'd want to use Courage, I don't know, unless, of course, you're bored biggrin.gif. Instead of just regular and "Strong" elixirs, there are "Improved" and "Excellent" grades. You can how purchase random packs of elixirs only for very little coin.

Congratulations!! That's a serious achievement.

I've been pulled of my Legendary run by other games. I'll have to get back to it some day so I can join your ranks.

The information about the game which appears in a snap when you say "Xbox help" is useful but woefully incomplete. I have no idea what that little sword-shaped indicator on the bottom left of the screen is supposed to be. There's information on the upgrade screens which I cannot understand. Not documenting these features is stupid.

HI there. Doing random searches on this. You ever figure out what those lower left corner bars are? I'm on the 4th area of the game and i still have no idea either. Can't seem to find that information anywhere. Really weird. Thanks in advance.

Editing original post.

I'm not sure what that bar is. Maybe XP and SP rank bar? In the bottom bar it has "3,000,000". The red progression I have in the bar is about a 1/5th of the way.

My SP rank is 9, and I have around 7.1 million XP with around 145k valour....so I'm not sure how that factors in.

*update*
Last night I played some SP (trying to finish off the damned Vista achievement - all three times last night I missed the one in the pit - it's the only one I have to get), and kept an eye on the bar on the lower left.

It had 9 on the far left, and both top and bottom had about 1/5 of the bar filled in with red. The bottom bar had 3,000,000 on the lower right. I received a level up to 10, and the number on the left turned to ten and the red bars went back to being full gray.

On a side note, I had no idea there where easter eggs in the SP. I'd only heard of/seen the one in the MP.

Skulls easter egg ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eafXLnlcHo

Lady of the lake easter egg ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQMLelMp8cg

I have a bunch of family coming by this week who want to check out the Xbox One. I'd like to show them Ryse - any recommendations on best chapter/area to start off with that would give that big "wow" factor?

It's probably the most visually stunning sequence I've ever seen in a video game. I enjoyed watching that clip of the British blogger demonstrating it so much that I played the chapter again myself, on Legendary, of course biggrin.gif (the "kill the archers" segment sucked mightily once again).

Ryse got a new pack today, included in the season pass, for those of us who bought it, called "Duel of Fates". The most notable thing about it for me is that they've released 3 new solo maps, "Barbarous", "Invictus" (both new) and "Obelisk" (from one of the prior packs). The new maps also have co-op versions (also a new survival map called "Island") and there are two new skins, Glott the barbarian chief, and Marius Titus (seems a little strange to have a barbarian chief slaying fellow barbarians in the Colosseum, but whatever). I had eschewed the skins, opting instead to look like an actual gladiator, but I might play as my main man Marius smile.gif.

I'm so happy biggrin.gif. I've still never played this game co-op, but I find the solo gladiator mode to be curiously soothing, so I still play it from time to time. Now I finally have some new maps to play on.

I just played "Barbarous" solo. The map is freakin' gigantic. It's a section of a town with a "god tree" in a garden and various other areas that you have to climb and raise and smash through gates to get to.

I think that it might be broken though. There's a "Destroy the Catapults with Oil Cauldrons" segment. I destroyed one and located the other on top of a tower with a non-burning, non-push-over-able oil cauldron at the base of it. I killed about 50 minions while running around trying to figure out a way to take it out when, after I'd jumped down into the area below it for a while, I notice that the tower had sunk to be level with the shelf it was on and that the oil cauldron was burning. I don't know if there was something I was supposed to do to bring it down or what.

Still, it was really nice to play a different map, having played the old three a few hundred times each cool.gif.

I just played thru Barbarous; I think there were two white floor pads below and in front of the cauldrons that you had to step on to lower the cauldrons. You then climb up onto the platforms to knock them over.

The level is somewhat buggy though; right before the cauldrons you must open a gate and kill some barbarians as they come thru; I killed them using the scorpio before opening the gate only to not be able to then proceed forward; had to restart the map, open the gate and let them come to me before I could take them out.

Still, its nice to have some new single-played areas; it just might give me the motivation to reach Level 150.

Yeah, I figured that out fairly quickly, but thanks.

The level is somewhat buggy though; right before the cauldrons you must open a gate and kill some barbarians as they come thru; I killed them using the scorpio before opening the gate only to not be able to then proceed forward; had to restart the map, open the gate and let them come to me before I could take them out.

I have not run into that problem. I usually roll past them with the B button and take them on in the next area, though the last time I did take them out with pilas before opening the gate. Didn't affect anything.

That's exactly how I feel. I went to try MP again and the player was level 7. He and his buddy kept talking to each other (they were in the same room) about the game and what to do. Due to his inexperience, he kept "kneeling", and I'd take my time to head over and heal him (he was never in any real trouble). After the 3rd or 4th time they got angry and started saying how terrible of a player I was, and how they were going to leave feedback. The way they were speaking led me to believe they didn't believe their mic was on.

Anyway, after we completed the level, I dumped out and went to the solo maps.

I still wish there was some sort of difficulty ramp. I've been using Jupiter for the combos, but it makes you so powerful that it feels a bit mindless. I also wish there were greater rewards for higher levels other than more powerful weapons and armor.

I've hit that bug now. I've started hitting those guys with a couple of pilas each to put them into executable state (they're both shielded, so the first one just strips their shield); I used to just roll past them after opening the gate and take them on with the party on the other side. Somehow I killed one of them before opening the gate and an invisible barrier prevented me from entering the area with the catapults. It kept sending weak minions who couldn't cross the barrier to get to me, but could somehow strike me if I stood in front of them, though I couldn't touch them. I could kill them with quick-thrown pilas, though I could not hit them with aimed pilas (except with that scorpio). Interesting bug, though easily avoided.

I ran across "Xbox One owners: Kinect is still spying on everything you say..." the other day. It's about people not realizing that Kinect voice-chat is on during multiplayer games biggrin.gif.

Change the setting that says use kinect mic for chat? biggrin.gif

It's just my opinion & it's worth exactly what you paid for it.

The obvious solution, but these people don't realize that Kinect chat is enabled. It's a cautionary tale.

Hit the "Barbarous" solo map bug again, a couple of times. I hit the guys on the other side of the gate in front of the final area (catapults) with pilas to put them into executable state, which invoked the bug, locking me out of that area and all of them in). I then backed out and played the map again, this time not touching those guys before opening the gate, but was still locked out. I quit the game; hopefully the bug won't still be there when I run it again.

Once, when I was locked out, I tried to go back and take a leisurely look around; they put soooo much work into some of these maps and you don't really get much time to see them while you're fighting through the round. (Sadly, I couldn't get back down the scaffolding into the little village area).

Ryse Morituri Pack Released (Click to show)
The latest add-on for “Ryse: Son of Rome,” the “Morituri Pack,” launches today. Available for $7.99 USD in the Xbox Games Store, or as part of the “Ryse: Son of Rome” Season Pass, the “Morituri Pack” gives gladiators brand-new content, including a slew of exotic and deadly arenas to further their legacy upon the blood-splattered sands of the Colosseum.

The “Morituri Pack” introduces three new arenas for Gladiator mode – Beacon, False Gods and Revolution – and two for Survival mode – Sulfur River and The Forbidden Forest. Beacon tasks players with infiltrating a barbarian camp, False Gods has gladiators battling in Ancient Egyptian temples, and Revolution is set amid the crumbling ruins of the once majestic Roman Empire. In Sulfur River and The Forbidden Forest, navigate an onslaught of perilous traps as you battle against insurmountable odds until the bitter end.

If fighting in the arena alone is more your style, the “Morituri Pack” also includes five arenas that have been optimized for Solo Mode – Beacon, Revolution, False Gods, Market and Garden. Lastly, the “Morituri Pack” enables gladiators to don the savage battle armor of Oswald, King of the Britons.

Announcement at news.xbox.com here.
