This isn't the case in multi-player though is it? I've gone for the Heavy Weapon ammo only to have it disappear after someone gets to it before me.

I tried playing that final mission but one of the random guys on my team dropped out midway through. So with two of us there was no way to finish. When i did it on the PS4 we sailed right through. I'll need to try it again this weekend.

Only to Level 5 on my first character [hunter]. Longtime Halo player. Have been going through solo so far, but could see the co-op missions being really fun. Played Crucible once unlocked; certainly feels a lot like Halo multiplayer, but enjoyed starting matches with my standard weapons and upgrades- flowed well from just playing the missions. Also like the heavy-ammo drops [as opposed to dropping weapons themselves] so you have the flexibility to choose what you want to work with.

Haven't gone crazy over finding easter eggs/treasures in the missions, although I do tend to be a completionist. Just enjoying the game itself for now, trying to get a hang for what's important to focus on upgrading. First FPS I've loaded onto my XboxOne, glad the controller seems to be so comfy after years of molding to the 360's. Haven't even unpacked the headset yet, maybe will give it a go tomorrow.

I was able to play two more single player missions. I must admit, each mission gets better and better. The tension and drama on the last one was awesome. It was the hive one with the Wizard at the end. The last shooter I played was Bioshock Infinite. And I will say this last Destiny mission was more exciting than any mission I played in Infinite.

The way drops are done is still bugging me. I don't find it easy to 'see' ammo and other drops and I have no idea who drops what. I also dislike the fact that chests are the only real way to get cool gear. I wanted enemies to drop gear as well. Oh well.

The BETA is keeping me interested and continues to get better the farther I progress. And the voice actors on NPCS are the best! The smile that came over my face when I heard Lance Reddick yesterday was a big one.

The more i play the more the style of this game screams out Mass Effect to me. How the Tower works and looks really reminds me of the Citadel in ME1.

I agree, the drops are a bit to get used to, and I have previously hated any kind of MOBA style game up to this point, but this is kind of growing on me. There are special weapon, armor, and heavy weapon drops from enemies. I have gotten a ton of "Uncommon" weapons and armor from the single player co-op missions. In fact, I have filled my weapons slots on the primary and secondary, and dismantled quite a few before I had a friend tell me about the vaults.

In case anyone is interested...we have a group going up against Bungie Saturday night at 9 PM. It will also be on Twitch Front Page.

Feels like a slight improvement on Halo...

The single player and co-op is nice...

Excellent gameplay and options- really polished.

The story line and mythology is just OK so far.

I haven't go to the multiplayer yet, I think I'm a Level 3 Warlock.

I manually had to go into the option and switch it to Party Chat. @onlysublime had a devil of a time trying to get it to work tonight, but we finally got it. We had a blast playing.
party chat still being broken is just inexcusable at this point. i've played 2 nights, and both nights took almost 30 minutes to get chat working...it seems to be reliable that you can't be in party chat, unless the chat app is snapped for both people. trying to get game chat working was a pain for us...finally both of us exiting to home screen and manually closing destiny app and then reopening seemed to do the trick last night. but i'm just astonished that this is the state of things, this far in the console's life.

makes me wonder if bungie is purposefully allowing this to be such a shambles on xbox to drive people to ps4.

so, impressions of the game itself: it's good but not great. I'm a huge halo and bungie fan (halo is what caused me to buy an xbox, my first console since the NES), so of course i'm comparing them.

The differences between destiny and halo are all fine in terms of control. i'm so used to COD style that it took a while to realize that it was using it.

The boss battles were tedious. The missions are way too linear and unengaging (it feels like doing side missions in oblivion after I’ve already spent 200 hours exploring). and there is just no sense of wonder and alien mystery like there is with halo...at least not yet.

it's like in halo they put the focus on the story, but here they put the focus on creating addictive gameplay. so i may spend a lot of hours on it (it is fun), in 10 years i won't be holding by breath for the Destiny 1-4 collection.

I will say, the more I went deeper into buildings, the thought that there might be something really cool down there, or on the other planets, was exciting. Especially if there are places I can’t go NOW, but I can come back to in a few levels…it’s quite a tease. this is bungie after all, and the flood twist in H1 just blew my mind. i expect they've got something up their sleeves.

But if all I find down there is another generic boss that I have to pump bullets into for 20 minutes, I’ll be hugely disappointed. i'm not a fan of bosses at all, but at least the bosses in say dark souls are ridiculously unique. But all the halos (except for 2) did great without boss battles, just by taking the standard encounter components and building really nice setpieces with lots of tactical possibilities. but every encounter in destiny so far is very similar.

However, this is a very limited beta, and I can’t believe bungie would release a game without a really deep backstory with a lot of mystery to it. so I’m still optimistic, but the beta itself isn’t even as good as, say, battlefield 4 to me.

Sorry I did not respond to your Invite last night. Was already in game with two others and we had the party chat working other wise I would have invited you in as well. I hope that gets resolved by launch since that is going to be a pain to be in the party before you launch the game. This just showed how much I liked being able to jump into a MP game with someone at any time no matter what I am doing...

What I like about the Beta is there is a lot more story line then what the Alpha had in it. They did make the boss battles easier as well. In the Alpha you really had to grind them out to get past them. The chat issue is annoying, but if Bungie says it will be fixed then I believe it will be. I agree this shouldn't be an issue, but then again it's why it is called a Beta. If it was the finished game it would be a different story. To me this game is not the Gun Porn like I was hoping it would be. I have been getting the drops, but there just does not seem to be much variety on the names or styles of the weapons. Best I have is an uncommon I was hoping we we would see some higher ones such as rares in the lower levels like Borderlands 2 did it. I was thinking of getting the PS4 version, but my son was up at 4 am this morning and playing. When I rolled out of bed at 9:30 he was already level 5 and he told me he is really enjoying the game. Seeing none of his friends have a PS4 we will be going with the Xbox one version.

One negative side is if the game forces you to do the PvP to get the Legendary weapons. I'm not that big of a PvP player and it may take awhile to earn up those credits for that armor and weapons.

A couple of questions:

1) Is it common in shooters to allow switching weapons but then give you an empty one and all the ammo you had for it is gone? Have a shotgun and a sniper, and wanted to use the right one for the right job. The ammo disappearing put a stop to that.

2) If a mission leads to a spot outside, like the one to find a good surveying spot, can it be reached without shooting your way through the same complex you've done already, killing the same Wizard and Captains again? That gets to be a drag.

Not bad, but the disconnects putting me back into orbit are annoying. Hope that's just beta-related...

I do like the size of the levels and secrets tucked within (like a cave I found on the Level 3 story mission that had a "Level ?? Captain" that was immune to all of my weapons), but mostly this game is just a bore to me. I admit that I never had much interest in it in the first place, I only have been trying it while it's free. And I'm probably out of tune with most on this, because I'm really not that big into shooters and I especially never got into any of the Halo games much (while I enjoyed Halo 1 single-player, I found it to be vastly overrated). Still though, some of the design choices in the game seem weird. Like, why bother with the third person view at all other than they need people to be able to see their customized characters? And in levels, I know that there were other human players around, but it never felt like we were participating at the same time. I'd get a couple warnings that players are nearby, and see that other players are far off in the distance, but it never felt like I was cohabiting the same space with other players. I also didn't feel like the story seemed like anything remotely interesting. Admittedly, in the beta it's just a small taste, but still. Nothing has drawn me in about it so far. I expected more from it.

Honestly, it just makes me feel like I'd rather be playing Titanfall.

I'm with you, on this one. I really want to like the game. And I am trying to remember it is just a beta. but the missions seem boring. "Let's go down in this basement and kill some Captains, Vandals, Dregs, and Wizards...ooohhh I got a cool gun." But the obvious Halo port...(come on, how many times can we hear the Needler?) leaves me wanting.
Graphically, it looks nice...but Bungie is nothing if not polished in their scenery. But, like Halo, maybe too clean? How about some destructible environment? I do like the transitions from the open "player world" to the missions. You don't have people running around ruining your party time with friends.
I don't like Borderlands or any other leveling RPG, so the Tower holds nothing for me. Multiplayer is ok, but I can't get a grip or a foothold on how, when, or why I died. I must report, here, that I was never a very good Halo Player, but I was better at Halo, than I am at this. It's just not enjoyable to me. It feels like COD Hardcore. I switched over to Titanfall last night, and within my first 3 matches went 7-0, 12-3, and 10-1.
I feel bad for this, because a friend got a code for me, but I am really having a hard time forcing myself to go back and play out the rest of the weekend.

The moon level opened up an hour ago and I played through that. Again, the level design seems awesome (though I sort of assumed beforehand that gravity would act differently and it doesn't), but the gameplay and missions just feel generic.

Seems pretty safe to say that I won't be picking this one up when the full version comes out.

I definitely will be, been having a ton of fun with it. Finished everything in the beta with a Hunter and a Warlock, got both to 8, working on a Titan now to see what it's like

Completed the moon mission. Decided to go back and explore. Glad I did since if you go up on the road to the left of the first base when you start there is some caves and huge area to explore with some Ogre and Hallowed Knights to take on. Lots of locked doors down that way which makes me think it will be fun to explore when the main game opens up. I wonder if it will be level specific. I remember there being about 3 sepecific areas one names circle of bones, Another temple area, and one other area. I should have wrote the names down since my memory is not what it seems. No damn loot chests and on occasion enemy drop (just whites). After playing the Moon mission I'm for sure picking this one up.

I'm really enjoying this game also. Already paid off so I'm in.

The Moon mission, Star Wars like land speeders, great PvP capture the flag, warp drive to Mars, Moon, etc., and back to Earth are truly amazing. Although the game can get tedious at times (at least parts of the beta were), the thought and level of detail put into this to game, art direction, and music are truly epic.

Everyone please grab this game for the X1 if you can.

Agreed, this is a rare game that kinda screams digital, like Titanfall.

Sorry, can't help you with a digital pre-order deal but will let you know if I see one. All the deals so far are physical disk based. For example....

The MS Store had a trade in deal a little while back...$40 for any 5 games, any system + $10 gift card. I traded in total junk games that were worth nothing. Anyway, I have this game coming to me for only $10 out of pocket. Best deal ever.

If I could trade an unopened disk for a digital copy, I would in this case.

Yeah, it was basically the best trade in deal of all time...
I plus others have Destiny plus Forza Horizons coming in Sept. for only $20 out of pocket.
Never, ever-ever do digital only!

Always digital only for me. Screw discs.

I just need to decide if I will get Destiny on the XBOne. I already have it preordered on the PS4, but I did like playing it better on the XBOne because of the controller.

X1 all the way man! You are a 10+ year XBL guy like me I believe. It has never failed us.

Totally understand your perspective, especially having multiple consoles in the house, but I get new games for an average of only $40 on the release date thanks to big box store competition, not to mention trade in values later; and the bailout option if needed.

I won't convert to digital only until I see the same level of cost savings plus the ability to actually own and transfer the asset as I see fit.

10+ year too here. I agree with both sides of the digital/disc argument. Have been purchasing discs for most SP games (Infamous, AC4, Killzone) and digital for the MP games that will only be worth $3 when done with them (Titanfall, BF4, COD) The fast switching on XB1 and being able to jump from games super quick and snap TV while waiting for friends to get their stuff together is awesome. So by this formula, Destiny will be purchased on XB1 digitally. (Best buy had a deal to where you get $30 for $20 a few weeks back, bought 5 of them so I have $150 on my account.)

Anyone else think there will be more Moon stuff opening today? They had L7 and L8 story missions showing, but not available, after you beat the L6 story. I think yesterday it didnt show until 2pm PT, so im gonna wait a few hours before signing on.

I kinda wish I'd known that yesterday wasn't just special for the reward one could earn. Despite various end-dates that went as far as the 28th, which I found just now, I'm not able to connect. There was an update to the beta that I downloaded, that possibly shut the door, but with no servers there's no fun...

Was playing just fine after the update, only got DC'd once. Anyway, got all 3 classes to 8 as well as getting the skill tree a bit further. did all the missions including the Moon mission and the Strike Mission (which was the most fun to me, especially with friends). I can't pick a favorite class yet as I like them all, but contrary to what I had initially thought, I think I like the Titan most overall.

As I said earlier in the thread, I'm sold on the game and will be getting it for sure. Just not sure if I'll do disc or digital. Leaning toward digital because I hate swapping discs.

Well, I'm glad to see that most people posting here liked it. I installed the beta the day after it became open to everyone and forgot about it until this afternoon, so I played it for an hour, had to go do something else, and it was over when I returned. I wasn't much impressed by that little taste, but it was hardly a fair trial.

Fun fact, sorry if it was already mentioned. I downloaded the 360 version to play with a friend and compare graphics, little did I know my charachter carried over with all progress and equipment. I thought I was going to have to go though the intro again and all the stuff for a 3rd time just to get to Crucible. Didnt have to.
