Please vote for the extension cable - it is a direct feedback link to Microsoft that just launched. Maybe if we can enough votes they might listen?

XBox One Kinect Extender - Quick Survey

Hi All,

A friend of mine from China has successfully made this cable (extension length 8 meter / 24 feet + original 3M cable = ~ approx 33 ft). I have seen video proof of it working. However, he is wondering how much demand there is and if it worth mass producing. If you are in need of this cable, please send me a message and I will get the total response to him. This is just a quick survey, thanks for your time.

Voted...Hopefully it can get enough votes to get Microsoft to license the technology for others to create the cable or they will release an extension cable themselves.

I just voted. I only need about an extra 3-4ft to be perfect in my room.

Very cool. I think there are a lot of people here interested. Any idea how much the cable would be?

Kinect Extender - Cable Prototype

Thanks for the reply eecyclone. My friend told me he was trying to keep it below $5/ft but the issue is volume. If there isn't enough demand, the cable will not be mass produced and it will become a special order item (expensive). This is why he asked to to look into actual demand and market volume. There have not many responses over the last few days so it's not looking good. Hopefully, I will see more responses over the next few days.

Best Regards,

You should also log your votes on the official Xbox feature request forum, here: https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/25...xtension-cable

That way Microsoft maybe will make a supported cable!

I am betting the demand is pretty high - if you do a google search there are quite a few threads, besides on here, about wanting an extension cable. I don't think relying on people to PM you is a good gauge. For example the Xbox One has done over 5 million units as of April, so even if only 1 of every 1,000 people need a extension cable, that is still 5,000 units worth of demand (way more PMs than you will ever get).

The demand is there...the bigger issue I think is getting manufacturing up to specs and tested. For example, can he make sure there is no loss of fidelity or lag issues, will the cable be CL2 rated (a certification needed for in-wall install, which most if not all people will need, this means an independent party test to certify), etc.

I think I speak for most of us, if he can get a cable up and running (the video looks promising) we would buy it. Perhaps start a Kickstarter campaign for funding as I bet manufacturing isn't cheap to get going? This would also allow him to set a dollar amount threshold that would enable mass production to ensure he can get the volume he needs for it to be profitable for him and to fund the R&D to go beyond the concept.

Just my thoughts.

I agree with Elmo45. But maybe the issue here is not manufacturing but licensing that is preventing third parties from manufacturing the cable. If your friend doesn't get the response he/she needs to manufacture the cable at a good competitive price then why not sell the plans to the DYIers.

Thanks for the info Elmo45 - I'll make sure to pass that on. Other than the CL2 certification, any other certs that you suggest he get? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Toe Knee,

I'll suggest that solution to my friend as well. However as you can see from the video, there will be some soldering of chips involved. Not sure what level of DIY is just too much for the average user. Thanks for your input though.

This is interesting how this extender is showing up on Amazon UK and France, but not in the US yet.

According to Amazon the product is made by "Calibur11," however that company doesn't appear to be too active. The website only has X360 products and their Facebook and Twitter haven't been updated 2013 and 2012 respectively.

That doesn't inspire confidence, sounds more like vaporware...but maybe someone who has a fair amount of twitter followers can Tweet at Monoprice with the link to try and prod them into getting their extended out sooner if they think there is competition.

Well - considering the Xbox One has been out for 7 months now - this falls into the "too late" category for me. We decided to build a shelf next to our projector screen to hold the Xbox One an ran the Kinect through the wall to the top of the screen. It works well and still looks professional. We're not interested at this point in moving it into the closet and running it using an extension cable. This should have been something that was around on release date.

Is 8 meters + 3 meters the maximum length he can make? Is there a technical limitation? I ideally need a 20 meter cable to reach my media cabinet.

Its been so long I forgot I was waiting for a solution to this. I really want to get the Xbox One but this is nutz!
I was hoping with the release of the PC windows version Kinect maybe a more simple USB extension kind of thing could be done but I haven't heard any good news on this topic.

Interested in how he extended the cable. It seems like it does work. If he is not going to sell them could you get him to provide a parts list so we can try to do it for our self ?

I need a 25' one but, dam $125 never mind shipping. I guess if it's all I can get...

Wow guys.... These votes are shameful. Only 350 votes for Kinect extension. No wonder MS is dragging ass on this.

I have 3 Xbox Ones that I want to centrally locate in individual component racks, requiring all 3 of them to use a longer Kinect cable.

Hoping for something soon.
