Xbox One Kinect Extender

How far is your Xbox to your kinect? I'm wondering if you can daisy chain a couple of these? My setup is about 45ft from kinect to Xbox.

u

Mine is about 25' total. There are longer active usb extensions but they are pricey. But they seem to work. I've read that once you daisy chain them it stops working.

So it seems I've lost on/off Control of my tv and receiver but can still do volume Control via voice commands. Has anyone else run into this.

Ok need some help. My kinect is not turning on. I got the same sabrent cable as you. Plugged kinect into the kinect for windows adapter. Then kinect adapter Usb cable into the sabrent extension. And the the sabrent into the Xbox USB port. I tried both the top and the bottom. Am I missing a step? Thanks

Have you tried to reconfirm that everything works with the Kinect connected directly to the One? Someone in the other thread is having problems getting his One to respond to voice commands so I'm wondering whether it's tied to a Windows 10 update that's causing the problem.

Ok there are two things I can think of. 1- is the Kinect Windows adapter plugged in to a wall outlet. I know this seems like a silly question but I'm just making sure.
2- I'm not powering the usb extension. I had read in another thread that powering the extension causes issues.
3- do a hard reset of the system(hold the Xbox button on the console down for 10-15 secs. Then go to settings and then Kinect, then try resetting it up.

Try those mine worked perfectly right from the get go. Hope this helps

I haven't tried as everything is buried now but I'm thinking that due to the extension, and the Kinect adapter I'm losing the I'm losing the ir capabilities via the Kinect itself. But I'm using the ir port on the back of the Xbox and it's still not turning the reciver on and off. I'm going to try in plugging the Kinect and seeing if I can get the on/off function to work with out the Kinect.

Item one, check . It's plugged in

Item two, Check. Not powering the cable. Saw the blue light turn on the cable so I didn't bother

Item three. Have not done this. Gonna try today. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the tips.

No luck. I plugged in the kinect into the dedicate port just in case and it did turn on, so the kinect itself is working.

I looked at the link you specified and the longest cable listed there is 16ft. Is your setup still 45 ft?

I ordered a 40ft cable through Amazon which ended up being long enough.

I'm not happy with the price, but I think I'm going to be picking up this cable as well.

Yea. I looked around online and there really weren't any better alternatives at a lower price. At least with this cable it's guaranteed to work

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger to make this work, but wanted to run my cart by the collective wisdom of this thread.
1) Microsoft Kinect Adapter for Windows - $50
2) Monoprice 15' USB 3 A male to A female Active extension cable

I need about 25' total and this gives me plenty of wiggle room. I'm buying from amazon since I have a GC there and get free prime shipping, if anyone was wondering.
Quick question about the kinect though, can it be mounted upside down? I have a small shelf for my center speaker and was thinking I could mount the kinect to the bottom of said shelf to keep things looking as clean as possible.

EDIT: went ahead and bought each of the above on 1/25. Will give it a shot and let everyone know how it works.

I think you're going to have the connection issues the others have mentioned, but I must admit, I'm not speaking from experience.

Yea might have an issue with the monoprice cable. But at least they have a good return policy.

Even better. The cables I previously tried that that didn't work were from amazon as well. Very easy return process. Good luck. Hopefully it works for you. But if it doesn't, you know which to get after.

Well...

With the Kinect Adapter for Windows and the FireNEX-uLINK USB 3.0 12 Meters/40 Feet, A to B Active Repeater Extension Cable I have Xbox Voice Support but no IR actions. It recognizes your command, but doesn't blast IR. Am I missing something?

EDIT: So it seems like I'll still need to invest in a IR Blaster. My question now becomes, why do I need this expensive cable when the other cables work fine from the looks for Xbox only commands?

EDIT 2: I'm returning the Newnex FireNEX cable for the Corning Cable. There's no advantage to having the Newnex cable.

My Main Setup
Display: Panasonic TC-P60ST60 w/Acoustic Research ARRX18G XSight Touch
Sound: Yamaha RX-V375 / Pioneer AJ SP-PK52FS 5.0 / Dual SVS PB-1000s
Sources: DirecTV HR44/200 / Xbox One 500GB w/Kinect & 4TB External / 1st Gen Chromecast / HP EliteBook 8460p (Win10)

Xbox One Kinect Sensor Extension (Unofficial Update)

"Unofficial Update" on how to successfully extend the length of the Microsoft Xbox One Kinect Sensor with a 99.99% rate.

I take no credit for discovering all this information. With the help of all of you all, I was able to combine all this and put it together. Please let me know if you see any inaccuracies so that I may fix them. Thank you everyone.

To successfully extend your Kinect v2.0 and Xbox One you'll need the following items:

1. Xbox One Kinect Sensor ($99.99+)
2. Kinect Adapter for Windows ($49.99)
3. USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable (See Below)
Depending on your needed length of extension will determine the USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable you'll need. Below are some of the confirmed options by length:

With adding an extension to the Kinect v2.0 cable there are some known caveats with the Kinect IR blaster/functions:

(the Kinect cable carries USB 3, power, and the IR signal) .

Luckily, the xbox has an additional mini-jack IR port on its back next to the ethernet port. If you want to continue to control your components with your voice via the xbox, you will need to get your own IR emitters / blasters and connect them to the IR out port on the xbox.

On the cable situation. On a previous post of mine I took a picture of the relevant cables and connectors. Just be sure that you have enough room in your wall / conduit.
Microsoft has a Xbox support page around using the IR port:

Here is a recommended IR emitter:

After getting all the necessary items setup properly some report they're still having issues getting their Kinect to turn on. To solve this issue it's best to "Reset your Kinect sensor’s connection". Here are those steps from Xbox's Support site:

Quote:
Reset your Kinect sensor’s connection

Follow these steps to reset the Kinect sensor’s connection:

  1. Power off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
  2. Unplug the console’s power cable.
  3. Unplug the Kinect sensor from the console.
  4. Plug the console power cable back in.
  5. Press the Xbox button on your console to power up.
  6. Scroll left from the Home screen to open the guide.
  7. Select Settings.
  8. Select All Settings.
  9. Select Kinect & devices.
  10. Select Kinect.
  11. Plug the Kinect sensor into the back of the console and wait 5 seconds for the console to recognize it.Note If your sensor needs an update, the screen will indicate that an update is in progress.
Note If your sensor needs an update, the screen will indicate that an update is in progress.
Also, I can no longer recommend the below USB 3.0 A/A extension cables. I don't know if something isn't transferring from the Kinect Adapter for Windows USB 3.0 A/B cable to whichever USB 3.0 A/A cable, but there are too many disconnects for me to continue recommending.

Quote:
The following cables are connected in this order: Kinect v2.0 Sensor ---> Kinect Adapter for Windows ---> USB 3.0 A/B cable included with Kinect Adapter for Windows ---> USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable

This is a great resource, COZ and should be stickied at the top of this thread. Well done. Note that the 50ft Corning USB 3.0 Optical cable you referenced also comes in sizes of 33 ft ($109), 99 ft ($309), and 165 ft ($499!). I have the 50 ft one and it works great.

Thanks MUPPPP. I referenced the 33' cable as the 32' since it's technically 32.8' even though the box says 33'. The two reasons I didn't reference the longer distances of the Corning cable is because there weren't any confirmed uses from any of us and who honestly needs more than 66' of cable.

So here's my new issue. The IR blaster is too far away from the TV, so my Xbox will turn my AVR and DirecTV receiver on/off but won't turn on/off my TV. My AVR won't turn on/off my TV, which would be perfect. Now I'm looking for the best way to splice one of the IR blasters and insert a form of extension.

Edit: I've decided to be lazy and go this route: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s00

My 33' Corning cable appears to not be working with my Kinect any longer. It's been going in and out and I'm not too happy about it. I really don't want to buy the FireNex cable (Again).

After some additional testing, I personally can not recommend a USB 3.0 A to A extension cable. I can only recommend using a A to B cable that plugs directly into the Kinect Adapter for Windows.
