I have a Xbox 360 that I am using only as a media extender for Win7 MediaCenter.
Was curious if a xbox gets any updates. I have no live account as I have no need for it. So, I tried both the USB stick and CD update method. Both did not work. An update possibility was not even indicated when starting up the xbox.

Is there something that I am doing wrong?

Is an update even useful when the xbox is used a media extender only?

Was going to start a thread but found yours.

Since I have an X1, I gave my daughter, 4yr old, my 360 slim. It has a 250gb HDD. I wanted to up load movies to it via usb stick but it would not let me. I searched the internet and they say it can't be done after the latest dashboard update. I tried to swap memory to the external drive. When I went into the hard drive I can press "Y" for options. There I can swap memory via usb. But then is no "Y" option for the USB or "external drive" to swap back to internal drive.

I read that you can hack the 360 and use it as a media device but you cant go online with it. Does anyone know how to upload movies to the 360? I have a 250gb that I can't use.
