The manual, the box, pressing the DVD/blu rays, the plant required to do so, the people that work in said plant, the shipping costs to get those things all over the world - all gone.

So, with a DD, the cost to us is the same? Hmmmm. I see.Sure, there's network infrastructure, bandwidth, storage, people to manage it etc but you can't tell me that they aren't laughing all the way to the bank with the extra money they are now making off of each game.

Then there's micro transactions....don't get me started on games like Forza 5. They won't see another dime from me.

Silent pictures
Cotton pickers
Pinsetters
Pony express
Stage coach drivers

Times change and things advance. Those workers probably thought the same as others who lose their job because of "the next great thing". But they moved on and I dare say, most probably were better for it. See #2.

I have really been itching to go all digital as well. If MSFT had digitally matched amazons price for the new lego movie game of 29.99, I would have jumped.

Hell, if FIFA 14 gets some kind of sale to 39.99 i'll probably jump, I just can't bring myself to spend $59 when non-digital is so much cheaper if you wait for a deal.

Why ? You think it's gonna be cheaper ?

Well, if you're a PC gamer, and you use Steam and GamersGate and GOG and Amazon downloads, and stuff like that, then sure. But if you're a console gamer, you're going to be waiting YEARS for any significant discount. I'm not talking about games like Powerstar Golf, which had a HUGE 20 percent off sale!!!

WOWEEE !!! 20 PERCENT OFF !!! STOP THE PRESSES !!!!

/sarcasm

Seriously... When do you think Microsoft is going to offer Forza or Dead Rising 3 at a significant discount ? (I'm talking at least 30 percent). The physical versions of those games have already been on sale at Amazon and other places for $39.99, which is a 33 percent price reduction. Those games came out in late November, and a few short months later, they have already appeared in sales for 33 percent off. If you want those games digitally from Microsoft, and you want them at a discount, I'm guessing you'll be waiting at least 18 months from launch date, and even then, you'll be lucky if they are $10 off.

The DIGITAL version of RYSE will be on sale for $39.99 starting tomorrow thru 2/24, that is your 33% discount and it didn't take 18 months......rolleyes.gif

Now that we have so many Ones in the family we are further embracing DD.

My nephew and I share titles, my son and son in-law are sharing titles and when my nephews get their One for XMas they will be sharing with my daughter. We have saved a lot of $$$ already.

You couldn't pay me to use the disc.

I dont care if the DD version is always more expensive.. I'll pay more for the convenience, instant access, no-maintenance and lack of clutter.

Anytime I even think about buying a disc.. I go downstairs and look at the 600 DVD's I bought that nobody wants just sitting & gathering dust. Its a sure reminder why im down with all forms of physical media.

I can certainly understand that. I donated my DVD collection to a local library years ago. I thin my wife has a few exercise DVDs but that's all that remains of our very large collection.

Donations is one of the easiest way to get rid of DVDs. I did that years ago and was able to take a several thousand dollar write off on my taxes. Much easier than trying to sell them. Although in 2014 I don't think they would be worth very much now.

Ok I really wanted to go the digital route this time around. But I see that's going to be an ongoing up and down thing for me. For one thing they really need to do something about the prices.
I mean honestly even if new titles were 10 bucks cheaper when a game releases I don't think it's going to damage the physical copy sales too much. Some people just want to have the discs simply to trade them back in.
Frankly some games aren't really worth the DD version. This new Metal Gear game. Basically a one hour paid demo. The only way I'd buy that DD is at the 20 buck mark and that's the most I'd pay for it and even then I'd be feeling kinda shorted. I'd be more comfortable at 15.
Something like Gears, Titanfall, Forza etc. those are definitely DD type of games.
