Ok, I looked through the boards and can't find much and MSFT gives next to zero info on the latest update with audio.
I have a 5.1 setup but a new Pioneer Elite Receiver with 7.1. What is the best audio setting from the XBOX One? The new bitstream via HDMI seems to just down covert to either DD or DTS or whatever you choose, and I've read also that what it does with uncompressed 7.1 is up-converts 5.1 sources which isn't ideal either.
Thanks for confirming. I find it odd that it can process the channels correctly from the games/DVD/bluray media but not from the hdmi in (or apps/media player that u mentioned that i haven't even tested yet). I would think/hope this would be a simple patch or update they can use. At least the 7.1 wrapper u mentioned that they use for stereo signals somewhat helps...and thank god bluray/DVD movies etc are correct or id go nutz, but the apps and cable hdmi in need to get addressed i would say.
For stereo content you can manually select 2.0 output which will allow a receiver to properly apply post processing. But this is an issue even the PS4 has. And with the PS4 you have no option to manually select 2.0 output. But the PS4 does change the output channels dynamically with Netflix. But not the other apps. But that is one more than the XBOne does.
My receiver is a bit old and only supports spdif. Given that DTS has a higher max bandwidth, is that the one I should be going with for everything? I'm not going to change output formats back and forth for each XB1 media source.
I am mostly HTPC/Windows Media Center centric, but I am playing around with running my 360 in extender mode to the One.
I got an Xbox One recently, have a system that supports DD/DTS but not uncompressed 5.1. Anyway, I know for a fact that when I put the Xbox on Bitsream DD or DTS, the rear channels do NOT have discrete sound. They seem a lot like a Pro Logic II taking a stereo stream and trying to use surround sound.
Is there anything available like a switch or box that costs under $100 that will take the HDMI 5.1 uncompressed stream and convert it into DD or DTS?
I don't like the way MS has the Xbox handling it, as I'm missing some rear channels...
There is no such thing as PCM bitstreaming. PCM is the most basic form of digital audio (everything else will be decoded into PCM). Receivers typically won't (no need to) show any information when it receives PCM audio.
Bit-stream is a misleading option in XBone. When you choose bit-stream, what really happens is the Xbone decodes everything to multi-channel PCM then re-compress them into DD 5.1 (lossy compression). It is obvious that no one should EVER choose bitstream unless their receiver has problems, .e.g. no-HDMI input for audio.
Use 5.1 uncompressed if the Bose system can process it. The system probably has some sort of simulated surround sound processing.
Read the Speakers forum for general sentimental towards Bose products.
