Choice and Consequence
I think it looks really good personally. I don't think there is any way it could render the way it does on older platforms. I think it is pushing the limits of the Frostbite engine, sure. The next game needs to be on a newer engine to really be next gen. But this game is beautiful, especially the environment. It looks much better than Skyrim does. And the fact that cutscenes are rendered in engine and look fantastic is great. I have no problems at all with spell graphics, they look great to me. My biggest problem is the uncanny valley effect on the characters when up close, especially the mouths and faces. The graphics are far from next gen level graphics. You can tell it was designed for the 360 and is just getting a small graphic boost from being on the One. Spells are very weak. Lightning bolt is a thin line instead of an awesome lightning bolt like in other games, same goes for all spells, particularly fire based.
Totally disagree here. I am only in the Hinterlands and yet exploring is very rewarding. You can go basically anywhere in any direction. Last night for example I was on my way to do a side quest when I found a hidden cave. I enter it to find a dead dwarf with loot and a note that drives some character discussions across my group and fleshes out the world more. Then I walk a few mins outside and find a treasure map that shows me a treasure under a waterfall. All by just walking around off the beaten path. This game is a complete 180 from DA1 and DA2 in regards to exploration and linear movement. While it is an open world game you will routinely get the feeling it is VERY linear with not much exploring.
Personally I have no problem with pushing the left stick down to see loot items. It is easy and fast. And it helps to find hidden items that the environment just naturally hides due to tall grasses, dark rooms, etc. I don't feel I have missed anything and I push left stick a lot while walking and it quickly and easily highlighst what I need. While you can loot things, finding them, particularly plants, is almost impossible without using the search option, so you are constantly hitting the search over and over which gets really old, otherwise you miss crafting ingredients as they are not that clear as you are walking around and only know you can pick them up (without the search) by walking almost on top of it because the graphic of the ingredient does not let it stand out as a plant.
Agree 100%. The voice acting and voices are great. The facial movement and expressions are ugly or creepy.Character voices are spot on, but do not match the facial movements but they sure sound good.
I'm only 7 or so hours in so can't really comment on it. But I like the story so far. I like the map interaction aspect and I like building up the inquisition.Story so far is a little weak. The whole system of getting power so you can interact with the map to open an area feels odd and off and doesn't seem to fit into the game world that well. Doing things to gain the power feels more like a game that wanted to be a different type of game then a role player and the two don't gel all that well together.
Combat is bothering me too. I can't put my finger on it. When I don't do top down mode it seems too fast. Lots of animations and movement (from enemies) that is a bit too chaotic to tell what the hell is going on. I am also playing a mage and quickly my mage gets bum rushed and dies or damaged.Combat is weak, I still haven't figured out how to dodge (I am playing a mage as one of the characters), when creatures cast spells at you all you can do is just stand there and take it as there is no dodge or way to really move out of the way instead of a slow walk away.
Really? I'm not seeing this happen to me. If I see the red dot on the map I generally want to attack first anyway so I creep up and then drop some spells on their heads. The system only forces me into combat when they are right on top of me, which should be expected. Odd.Bioware continues to force you into combat mode when creatures are near by so your character goes into combat stance, hud changes, etc. instead of letting me decide what to do. Just like all past dragon age games. They need to change this.
