What's your game of the year so far ?

Right now, my game of the year is Forza Horizon 2.

That game is pure joy.

Just wondering what other people think is the No.1 stunner of 2014 ?

Far Cry 4 or Titanfall. COD has been a bore for years and Destiny was a complete letdown. Haven't gotten very far in Dragon Age. Mordor was good. That's about all I've played, not a great year for games.

Add in pc and it has to be Elite: Dangerous, doesn't it?

Warframe. I have more hours into it than every other game released this year combined.

I would have picked Titanfall, but with only 500 players currently worldwide it's pretty pointless. I won't be buying into online only gaming again...

Last of Us: Remastered. Wait, that doesn't count.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. Huh...

Well, I can't really say that I've played a truly great game, but I've had a lot of fun with Shadow of Mordor, Evil Within, Little Big Planet 3 (biased because of the wife)... but I guess I'd give the nudge to Infamous: Second Son. I really had a blast with that one.

Haven't played any of the sports game though.

Titanfall or Horizon 2.

Went back to Titanfall a few nights ago (got lost in the shuffle of all the new games out recently) and I forgot how fun it is...will be playing more often now for sure.

What's your game of the year so far ?

I'm enjoying watch dogs a lot more than I thought I would, but I almost don't want to count it because it's so shamelessly derivative of AC. Cod AW was great but it's yet another chapter in a well worn series. Alien isolation on the rift was the most awesome thing I played all year, even though I'm not crazy about the game itself. I guess Titanfall is the best "new" game of the year but it felt like half a game.

Overall very disappointing compared to last year. There's nothing unreservedly awesome like TLOU or GTA V. Everything was either half assed or half broken.

They just sold the whole Xbox One package including DLC for $12.50 a few days ago. There ought to be a lot of players now. Maybe you are talking about PC?

1. Shadow of Mordor
2. Sunset Overdrive
3. Dragon Age: Inquisition
4. Southpark: Stick of Truth
5. Wolfenstein: The New Order

And my 2013 game of 2014:
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

With the mixture of big and small games, 2014 has been a great gaming year for me.

I'm struggling to name a game. I think it was a down year in terms of what in my mind is a GOTY.

I've yet to play Sunset Overdrive, it very well could be my GOTY before the end of the year is up.

I guess I'll say Infamous because it's the only next-gen game I've played and didn't want to play anything else until I completed it. Titanfall, Dragon Age, Evil Within, or any of the others did not have the same effect.

South Park gets an honorable mention because that game was really good, fun, original. Unfortunately it just took too long to come out and I had problems wanting to turn on last gen hardware to play it. I'd like to see them do a port where it would look a little sharper and have less hitches and hiccups.

It's funny because I remember when there used to be all these gaming magazines, and they would always talk about how "This is the best year ever in gaming". Every single year they would say that, whether it was remotely true or not.

This is one year I don't think they would have said that.

Not that there aren't good games this year, of course there are, but I don't think there are that many games that really, really stand out among the crowd. Of course, many of 2014's biggest games were delayed into next year, so that's a big part of it. 2015 will be a year for the ages most likely.

It was a struggle to crank up the ole 360, but well worth making. Once the credits rolled on Stick of Truth I boxed the console up. And I'd happily double-dip if they did an HD release

My wow moments for 2014 were Titanfall, Forza Horizon 2, and Halo (this is more for sheer size and breadth). Though the short grindy nature of Warframe has me hooked. Normally I don't play grindy games but for free, I don't mind.

I've had a lot of fun with a lot of games, both on the Xbox One and the PS4, but I really can't say that I've played anything that was so far beyond what I used get on the 360. In terms of highlights...

The Forza games always look pretty and the car models are great. After a few stumbles out of the block with Forza 5, they've definitely come around.

Ryse: Son of Rome was a fun game with an interesting story that trumped its sometimes repetitive gameplay and relatively simplistic controls.

Thief was another game that I had a lot of fun with. It had some quirks with the AI and the ending of the game didn't make sense but the world was nicely rendered and the environments encouraged exploration.

Wolfenstein: The New Order was a fun ride while it lasted and a nice spin on classic FPS action; unfortunately it had very little replay value and a really weak ending.

Destiny is a game that I'm torn on. I have a long, ever growing list of complaints that sometimes drive me crazy but I've also poured in about 200 hours into the game so it must be doing something right.

Almost impossible to choose, but I would say..

  1. Forza Horizons 2 (arcade/sim hybrid racing perfected)
  2. Dragon Age (amazing Mass Effect meets Game of Thrones vibe; just an incredible feat of software engineering overall)
  3. Titanfall (made FPS fun again).
Honorable mention: Sunset Overdrive, to be forever known as the best game ever released, at the worst possible time.

Different perspective...

Using metrics from the XBL homepage, I have somehow managed to score achievements for exactly 102 unique "Xbox" games since the release of the Xbox One last November. I played a few more unique games than that for sure (I suck at achievements) but I'm still probably on the low end of average usage.

Sure, my 2014 achievement count includes some legacy 360, Windows, and Surface games, plus a few apps that register that way like NFL and Xbox Music but most importantly, I can't say that I remember a single game really sucking that bad. Quality over quantity always but 100+ new games in a single year that were at least worth checking out says a lot I think.

In terms of overall playtime and enjoyment, in no particular order:

Forza Horizon 2
Titanfall
Destiny

There's a few other contenders. My biggest disappointment is with difficulty getting games in FIFA 15.

Also, a special honorable mention should go to EA UFC which was a good game at launch and has been extremely well supported throughout the year with regular free updates including new fighters.

I have Sunset but haven't given it a fair shake yet because of the game deluge. Hoping to fully play it soon once my backlog gets under control.

Nothing for me, sadly. Wouldn't even bother voting.

COD-AW ...8.5 ...Good but nothing like COD4 or MW2 (The memaaryyyy remains!!)
Destiny/Far Cry4 ...7 ....For me, not my cuppa tea..played both on the PS4 at a friends house
Halo ...Have NEVER been a Halo fan (played the original on the Xbox and never bothered after that).
GTAIV....9.0 ..Probably the closest that comes to getting my vote even since I prefer shooters as my daily bread-n-butter.

Disappointing year for me. I have forever remaining memories of those long nights with Oblivion, playing marathon sessions with COD4/MW2 almost every night but this year, there hasn't been anything even close to these.

Greatness Awaits?? Ummm...not for me, not yet.

Have you tried Dragon Age: Inquisition? It's scratching the same itch and eliciting the addiction in me as Oblivion and Skyrim.

^ Yeah...I've been hearing good stuff about that game. Might pick up a used copy from Ebay for cheap and give it a whirl.

Thanks!
