Just got to work and found out about this 1080p update.

Can anyone confirm if 1080P on the Sony XBR2 via vga works correctly?

Thanks in advance.

I was wondering what this update was for , hit just as I quit playing RB6 for the night (early AM actually) . Should make many people happy with the 1080p VGA fix but I wonder if anything else was addressed/updated ... hmmm ?

EDIT : Here is all that it updates ...

Dashboard Update :

-Improved support for HD video output over VGA, including 1080p resolution

-Improved plug and play performance for wired headsets when being used with wireless controllers

-Changes made to recently played games list to improve accuracy

Did it fix signal scale problem over VGA (aka. washed-out color)?

How about the Sony a2000 series? Guess I can try after work today.

So this means 1080p games for VGA only- still nothing over component?

I've actually been having trouble with my headset lately. Didn't even think it was related to the newest dashboard update. Hope they fixed it!

There is no VGA problem for an SXRD1/2. Read your manual. It does not support 1080p through VGA. Furthermore, all resolutions via VGA are displayed in a window that is smaller than the screen. This is by design. It is not Microsoft's fault. Your SXRD only supports 1080p on the firewire and antenna inputs.

Stay away from Mad Catz/JoyTech 2 of the 3rd party brands you will find they are garbage...

Either pick up a Dragon VGA cable from PLAY-ASIA.COM or get an official MSFT one...Check EBGAMESTOP to see if they have them used they sell them for $12.99....Dont settle less for Dragon or MSFT.

Oddly, this update messed up 1080 over component for my Panny, it now underscans vertically beyond correction.

I am at work and the link to major nelsons blog is blocked on our system.

Does anyone know if this fixes the fact that over VGA there are "tiny black vertical bars" (three pixels wide) letterboxing my Sony XBR1 40 in. LCD. Very small but extremely annoying to a sicko like myself. I have the resolution in the 360 maxed out, but my screen has slightly more pixels than the max setting in the 360. Is my TV not scaling properly or is it the 360???

I connect via component now.

I don't think it will work, cause the a2000 doesn't support 1080p over VGA at all, as far as I know.

so something got broke on mine!

been using the vga cables with my 42" plasma since i got the tv.

updated today, and vga no longer works.... it shows on the monitor that its receiving a signal and its the right resolution, but its just black.
component cables work just fine
if i run the vga cable to a little 15" lcd monitor, it will work fine, but something happened to make it not work with vga and my plasma...

I am using some crappy MadCatz VGA cables right now (they were the only thing available to me at the time) and the update definitely fixed some problems with a cloudy picture at 768p that I was having. The colors still aren't quite as vibrant as the official Microsoft component cables but I am going to attribute that to the poor quality of MadCatz stuff. Hopefully the store I work in will get some official VGA cables in stock so I can buy them with my discount.

[strike]Did you read above, someone said that the XBR2s do not display 1080p via VGA. I have not confirmed this myself.

It is about the ninth reply.[/strike]

The XBR2's are supposed to, it's the SXRD's that don't.
