Hey guys,

I am interested in putting a VGA adapter on my projector (Epson Powerlite 74c). This projector supports hd but it has VGA inputes instead of components for HD.
Will there be a difference of picture quality with either Psyclone VGA Cable or Microsoft OEM VGA Cable? There is a huge price difference.
Thanks

William

I'd go with the MS cable. Maybe you can get it cheap on ebay or something.

I second that. I had a sub standard picture via VGA when using third party cable. Changed to the MS one and the picture has greatly improved.

You can also check out your local eb games or Gamestop for a used MS cable.

I have used both and they look the same on my 32 inch hdtv. Im not sure if there will be a difference on larger screens.

psyclone blows! here is a pic, even on a 37" screen the psyclone cable sucks, and for $20 MORE than the MS cable! they're nuts.

the top image is MS component cables, the black is a little washed out with component on my set.

the bottom image is psyclone vga, you can see the blacks look better, but there is a smudge or ghost on everything (that's not a moving image, camera was on a tripod and steady) that's exactly how i saw it on screen

MS vga has the deeper blacks similar to the psyclone, and more clarity on the edges than the MS component.

No trees were harmed forming this post, though many electrons were inconvenienced.

I get faint diagonal ghost lines scrolling throughout the picture with VGA. I've tried cheap Joytech, MS VGA, and Monster VGA. Anybody else have this problem?

I don't have this problem when hooking up my laptop to my HDTV (Samsung DLP).

If it's related to tearing the spring update might help (unless you've already got it)

I got the psyclone vga at target for $17.99 Where did you see it for $20 more than the ms cable. The ms cable usually goes for $49.99. I do not see any ghosting with the cable that i have.

I picked up MS VGA cables from EB Games yesterday for $39.99 -- so I think retail price definately went down since EB don't really give too many deals

Can we get some closure?

tossing component out the window,
MS cable vs Psyclone.

MS 40$
psyclone 18$

Bad news? both sold out everywhere.

Should I go with...
A) Microsoft
B) Psyclone
C) It doesnt matter, get whichever is cheaper/easier to get

I'll be running on a 17 inch CRT

just called. they have one for 25$.

im still getting it ^_^

only prob is I might need a male-female RCA adapter. my monitor is like 4 feet away from my amp and I have one male-male extender.

my monitor's max res is 1280x1024. what can I get out of my 360?

480p?
720p?
1080i?

I understand vga refers to a resolution and 480, 720 and 1080 are verticle resolutions. my monitor is 4:3 I think, but that would lead to an awkward resolution if it stayed in 4:3 with either 480, 720 or 1080 as the Y resolution.

just choose your native resolution or closest to it.

You can set it to that rez. I have one on my computer monitor and it looks nice and sharp set like that. I use the MS cable.

I wouldn't set a CRT monitor to that resolution. Chances are that it'll look sharper at something lower. Try using 1280x720, and adjust the monitor's vertical height until the image looks right.
