Since we got the PS3, one of the things our family enjoys is watching HD trailers of upcoming movies. The 1080p trailers played on the PS3 look spectacular. The ones with 5.1 audio sound incredible as well.

So I have decided to start a thread to track all the 1080p trailers out there that have 5.1 audio.

To start of with, we need to get the basics covered:

- Trailers on the net are almost always in MOV format. PS3 will not directly play MOV files.
- You will need a utility call YAMB (or MP4Box for advanced users) to convert MOV to MP4.
- A typical trailer (2 1/2 minutes long) can be converted in 15 seconds on a reasonably fast PC.
- Load up these MP4 files to a USB ThumbDrive. The PS3 will play them directly off the thumbdrive.
- If you copy these MP4 files to the PS3 internal drive - you will be treated to an animated thumbnail. Very cool.

Please post you links and I will periodically fold them into this post. If there is information on other utilities you wish to share, please let me know.

Thank you.

Cool. Good idea. Isn't the 10000BC trailer available on PSN though?

So far, the PSN hasn't had any 6-channel trailers.

Thanks! one question though, I downloaded the 10,000 bc trailer but it says that the resolution is 1920x817. Is that 1080p?

The 1920 is what you are looking for to see if it is 1080p. The height can be varied depending on the letterboxing/aspect ratio of the content.

To convert a directory full of .MOV files to .MP4 ... copy mp4box.exe to the same folder and run this batch file. Batch file experts can enhance this further.

Code:
for %%f in (".\\*.mov") do ".\\mp4box.exe" -add "%%f" "%%~nf.mp4"

I need help from others to seed this list I started.

To download trailers you can visit

As of now, I download the audio and check it for 5.1 audio. If someone knows of a way to determine # of audio channels without downloading the entire file ... please share the info.

Thanks !!

We've begun adding quite a bit of trailers with 5.1 Audio on hd-trailers.net. Look for the label 5.1 Audio in the trailer title.

Examples:
http://www.hd-trailers.net/movie/man-of-steel/
http://www.hd-trailers.net/movie/star-trek-into-darkness/
http://www.hd-trailers.net/movie/iron-man-3/
