My upgrade-itis has been cured for the time being. Rotel better not release a Pre-Amp with HDMI 1.3 support and decoding of the new audio codecs.

Well damn that rosenut is gorgeous. And i listened to the 703's and 704's side by side and really the 703's just had the better bass response. Maybe a slightly better midrange. But your right thats exactly what the sub is for! When setup with a good sub it was HARD to tell the difference between them.

Ehhhh 1.3 is overated IMO. It sounds pretty good, but its not night and day by any means. Im in no hurry myself to get a 1.3 processor.

I had money... I found AVS Forum... Now I don't have money...

Many of you have your TV much too high. You do know that right? The correct screen placement is the same as your speakers. Just as the speakers should align with your ears, your screen should align with your eyes when you’re sitting on your couch. Having to life you head or eyes to watch TV is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah I never understood why people mount their tv high on the wall. The only time I give pass to it is if you have kids and they're a little too "touchy" to have the tv eye level.

But hey it's your tv do what you like

Not so much...have you been to the movies? Unfortunately not only do I want a great looking setup...I also want a great looking apartment. Jamming a bunch of speaker stands to accommodate having the TV at eye level is the real recipe for disaster! hehe.

Thanks, it's a sony 52" XBR4 and I'm running Swan speakers all around to an Onkyo 604 which does the job more than well in our modest condo.

Yeah i've posted in another thread earlier. My pictures were pretty poor. I've since invested in a Sony Alpha 200..so my shots are a little better.

The Swans are awesome..I though of moving to Axioms but figured it would be more of a lateral move than an upgrade. Plus the Swans sound great not only on my movies but 2 ch. cd playback is fantastic.

Thanks for your comments.

It's nothing compared to some of the stuff I've seen in here, but just thought I'd share what I've done with a really small budget

I should take some newer pics... not much has changed but I did clean up the place a whole lot...

Try to save up for a Sony CT-100 .... it can be have under 299.99 .. or wait a few months when it gets on sale.... its a popular sound bar w/ sub, and takes HDMI inputs to decode PCM from your PS3.... it isn't the best of the best... but it will do for now ... till your budget gets higher....

Its better then the 5 logitech speakers all mounted together in a clunk....

Well, kinda.

Those are regular logitech X540 PC speakers. So it's not really "rear" speakers.

I live in a 1 bedroom condo and my setup is:

TV: Sony KDL-40XBR4
Game Console/Blu-Ray Player: PS3 60 GB Model
HDTV Cable Box: Scientific Atlanta 8300 Explorer HD DVR
Bello TV Stand

All devices connected through HDMI cables.

I've been looking to get a 5.1 home theater speaker setup and I'm looking at this Haraman Kadon setup which is priced pretty good at under $400:

Harman Kardon HKTS-18 5.1 Channel Speaker System

I'll try to post pics of my setup later tonight or in a day or two.

i think what he is getting at is why you didn't put those speakers in the rear as opposed to having all 5 channels up front, thus lacking a "surround" sound effect.

the apartment set up is not ideal for me to do that. I hate seeing wires all over the place and there was just absolutely no way I could achieve that without wires getting in the way.

They are probably just producing stereo sound...so placement isn't too much of an issue for him I'm sure.

Good looking setups (though if I woke up to KingShorty's setup it might freak me out for a sec ... those speakers make it look like Wall-E's evil brother or something )
My setup is pretty ugly. Function always wins out over form in my apartment. :P

I'm in the market for a new receiver. Price and features are my main concerns. I was thinking about the Sony DG720 because I'll never crank my system up in my apartment anyway, so power is basically a non-issue. Also, I'll be living in the same place for probably five more years, and by the time I move to a new house, cashflow won't be a major issue, so I'll be upgrading my sound system anyway.

Everyone here says avoid the DG's and go with an Onkyo 605 (or whatever) but I'm in Alberta, Canada, and those are pretty scarce around here, and the online deals are not so great by the time I get it shipped up here. You guys think the DG720 would be good enough for my purposes? Sounds like the major gripe with it is lack of power, and not really a lack of functionality. If so, I'll probably go with that.

Do yourself a favor...purchase an Onkyo 604...stay away from Sony audio products..you're not going to get much for your dollar. The 604 can be had for reasonable prices and is a great unit. I was one in my apartment to power my Swans. It's not just a lack of power it comes down to a lack in sound quality as well.
