I will most likely be selling my launch 60GB PS3 on eBay if I can pick up one of the 40GB units during the upcoming sale at Wal-Mart (my unit has experienced multiple problems and I'd rather replace it than try to get it fixed). What sort of personal information, if any, do I need to delete from my current system before I sell it? I only have a few game demos and game saves on my PS3 right now (no videos, pictures, music, etc.). Is there any credit card information stored on my HDD I need to erase prior to selling?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I'm guessing if you can delete your profile, it'll delete any information on the HDD. The data is encrypted, but they might be able to brute force your password, or if you have it set to auto-logon...

Do a system restore under the settings tab. Quick format takes 5 minutes and restores the system to the original setting just like the day you baught it.

Do the restore, shut it down, box it up.

When in doubt use the spoiler tag "[$poiler] Spoiler text
"

Those 40GBs have issues. Check the build date. Buy nothing built between September 07-Nov 07

Only watches movies on celluloid in the DOP's personal home theater.

Care to elaborate... I'm interested in picking one up and would like to know what the issues are. Thanks.

Kind of feel sorry for the person on the receiving end of your 60GB if it's having issues. I hope you note it on your auction. I hate to get screwed like that if I was looking for a used PS3 but then again that's why I guess I don't buy any used electronics.

You also need to deactivate the system.

HOW TO ACTIVATE/DEACTIVATE A SYSTEM (AS OF V2.10):
(Please Note: If 4 or less systems have been activated, the next system that downloads purchased content will be AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED)

1. Go to PLAYSTATION Network icon in the XMB.
2. Go to Account Management and press X.
3. In the Account Management screen, go to Account Management and press X.
4. In the Account Management screen, go to Activate System and press X.
5. In the Activate System screen, go to PLAYSTATION3 (This system) and press X.
6. In this panel, it will show you whether or not your system is activated. If it is not activated, you can activate it by pressing X on the ACTIVATE SYSTEM option or, if it is activated, you can deactivated by pressing X on the DEACTIVATE SYSTEM option.

Good point! Man, why don't people use their warranty's? Instead they just schluck it off to the next poor guy, who probably can't afford a new one, so he go's to Ebay or whatever and get's a used one that's broken. That sucks! I hope your new 40 gives you more problems than your 60. It will be deserved.

IF you are going to buy a new PS3 it really is worth it to get the extended warrenty.

When in doubt use the spoiler tag "[$poiler] Spoiler text
"

Instead of ebay, you could consider Craigslist in your area. No ebay fees.

I've not yet decided if I'm going to put it on eBay, but if I do choose to do so, yes, I would indicate the current issues with it

Ryan - Thanks jackass. I didn't use my warranty because the problems didn't start occurring until after the warranty expired. Also, I was unable to purchase an extended warranty because I picked my unit up at launch from the Playstation store in San Francisco who did not offer extended warranties (nor did the Sony Style store across the hall). You might want to ensure you have the necessary information prior to passing judgment on others.
