Awesome thread. Great info. Here's some tips from the SOCOM.com website:

Quote:

It's out!
Posted by David “Point Man” Brothers

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation has shipped!

Need I say more?

Here are a few tips while you settle down for twenty-four straight hours of gameplay.

1. Hydrate. Keep water by your lounging device of choice. Energy drinks are tempting, but I've always preferred straight up water. Keep a large bottle nearby. When the bottle is empty, it's time to take a break, be it bathroom or otherwise.
2. Eat real food. Yeah, that bag of barbeque flavored onion dipped garlic chips might taste good (hint: it doesn't, it just makes your breath smell bad), but they aren't doing anything for you. Eat something that's high in nutrients, or at least something that's real food. I'm a big fan of the two-egg omelet. It has a few really great things going for it-- it's easy to cook, it doesn't make a lot of mess, it's filling, and it is delicious. So, stock up on eggs, I guess.
3. Take breaks. You should walk around your house, take a shower, or take a nap. Do anything to give your fingers and mind some rest. The last thing you want is for your fingers to seize and cramp up mid-snipe while your brain succumbs to exhaustion and turns you into a raving madman/madwoman. Take a break. It'll do you good.
4. Keep cool. Okay, yeah, that was a totally cheap kill-- but that's cool. Just get ready for revenge in the next round. "Don't get upset, get even" is a cliche, but it's true. Cooler heads prevail, generally.
5. Have fun. This one's a no-brainer, isn't it? Have fun. If you're getting frustrated, take a break and come back later on.

One last thing. If you play today, pop in here and tell me about your first kill and the first person who killed you and which server you were playing on. Just leave a comment. Keep it going throughout the week.

If there was a good story behind your kill or death, do me a favor and tell that, too. No fish tales, though! Keep it real.

Any reviews out yet? Man I hope this will be equal to COD4. I need an alternative, but on the same level of jaw dropping gameplay and realism.

Hatcher, you may want to update your original post. The PSN version is supposed to be available today, retail hitting shelves tomorrow according to the PSBlog.

Yeah, I had noticed that too but I swear I read on the PSBlog that it was hitting PSN today. I can't seem to locate the post now, but the release of Warhawk was similar (a day or two on the PSN before retail).

I was just trying to track the post down too, but I can't seem to find it. The last official word on this issue was on Oct. 3

Unfortunately, the PSN version will not be released until Thursday, October 16th

I remember people saying that about Warhawk though. I think I will leave it for now unless somebody does manage to download it today/tonight.

Your image isn't showing up at all Shorty. Bad link.

The post seems to be gone, Hatcher, but I swear I saw it. Maybe they have pushed it to the regular Thursday. Interesting. Don't really see any reason for anyone to download vs. box copy now. The whole point of the Warhawk release was that you could get it "early." I know I fell for it...LOL!

Just got off the phone with GameStop, both Dead Space and SOCOM will be available tomorrow.

I will call back again at midday or so just to see if they may have gotten it in with their daily shipments.

There is alot of awards, I think getting the Silver Star will be pretty difficult, because it's one thing to get 15 kills in a row, but it's another to do so without taking any damage.

That one is going to be tough, but if you are going to get it legitimally you may have to do it early in the games release. You'll have to take advantage of the non-SOCOM vets, before they get the hang of the game.

Agreed. Play a large map, find a nice corner to lay in and snipe to your hearts content.

My only worry is that SOCOM has been notorious for releasing patches that reset scores and what not because of glitchers. Hoping that this does not happen on Confrontation.

I remember scores being reset in SOCOM and that sucks for the people who play fairly. I haven't heard anything about trophy support lately and wonder if the scores did get reset would it affect trophies.

I don't think it should affect trophies considering those are saved on Sony's servers. So even if you get em, lose your save, and start a new save file, you'll still be current to where you left off.

No SP on this one, but everyone has taken their lumps online at some point. Today it will be you, and when someone gets the game for Xmas you'll be splattering them all over the map. Its a "Circle of Life" kind of thing.

COD4 was great right after Christmas. Now I can't take two steps without some junkie mowing me down.

I expect this to be even worse since it's much more tactical. But it should still be fun. I just can't get too wrapped up in the stats.

Anyone see any reviews yet???

Speaking of stats, I heard the SOCOM site will have detailed stats down to where your bullets are hitting. (left/right, legs, arms, head, etc.) You are supposed to be able to see all the details for your clan and friends.

Warhawk really raised the bar when it comes to stats. Literally every step is recorded. It's pretty informative to spend some time with it after you've built up your stats a little. Some things really surprise you.
