This is the first gen of online patching for consoles buddy. Of course there is no long history of precedent. With that said, a developer can tweak just about anything they choose to if necessary.

And no, they aren't "just taking on damage now". They clearly said that the public only saw the first step of what they've been working on. The damage system that ships with the game will go beyond that. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

I wonder if multi class racing is allowed how they will handle the penalty system of cars with and without damage. I'm guessing by default it will be timed as it exists today

Maybe for Sony, MS had online patching last gen on the Xbox. Example would be Forza 1 along with the "patch" Halo 2 map packs.

^^^ Good point. I forgot about that. The point remains that if they choose, a developer can patch almost anything if they see fit.

how is that a good thing?? so developers can essentially be lazy and bring out a broken game only to patch later all in the name of making the target date.

I fail to see how it is a "bad thing." Allowing Developers to improve upon their game after launch is better for all parties involved. As far as online games go, launches are rarely smooth, without patches most would be unplayable. I'm not sure if a Lazy developer would patch a game that you already bought, I mean after all they are lazy right?

As an aside, the whole "lazy developer" critique is bogus. Developers would take as much time as they could to make as polished a game as possible. It's usually publishers that force them to push a game out the door too early. But that's not publishers being "lazy" either. They're just doing their job and trying to get titles out in a timely and profitable fashion. "Laziness" rarely happens in game development, regardless of how bad the final product might be, or how much post-release patching it needs.

Ghostbusters is having a resolution bump and removing the antialiasing. That's not a change in physics. was there a change in physics for GT5P?

no, i'm not kidding. that is as much a part of driving as anything else. if nothing is left on the pavement after excessive wheel spin, then what? i guess my only recourse is to assume that my tires are constructed of some new grippy form of plastic. what's worse is they actually have drifting now. i mean, how dumb does it look when there is nothing being left on the asphalt after someone speeds around a track resulting in back tires that are balded to their steel belts?

it's just ridiculous that they can't get this in there. i was just watching someone play twisted metal on ps one. guess what? they had rubber effects when you had too much wheel spin. but what do we get from "the real driving simulator?" nothing. that's failure in my book.

In addition, other gameplay enhancements come with this update, like fixes in penalty judgments, more tire choices for Time Trial and improved physics during collisions between cars during online races (YES! The "lazy developer" thing probably ticks me off more than anything else. I guess most of these people that say these things are just teenagers that never worked a day in their life. A lot of these guys just love games and are willing to work for less pay than they would writing antivirus or spreadsheet software so they can make games. Most of them work way way more than 40 hours a week and do what management tells them to do. If the boss tells them to focus on this or that instead of the other thing, the fact that the other thing isn't done isn't laziness. It's a decision that was made.

Show me another game that had its physics/graphics engine altered after it shipped.

There are hundreds of games. Most of them on the PC of course. The most obvious example is World of Warcraft. The stuff that was in the last expansion or the upcoming one could not be done in the tech that was present on release.

Virtually every successful MMO has had its graphics engine and art revamped at least once. People play with both side by side.

Burnout Paradise.

While I'd prefer a "perfect" GT5 we all know that is not going to happen... so I'm sure the game will see patches. Hopefully the game will be finished by the time holiday shopping starts (Nov) if not they'll miss a huge selling opportunity. However the last time they pushed a holiday release (GT2) is was a buggy mess that required TWO revisions to be released later!

GT has alot of short comings yet still manages to be the best driving game out there. Its frustrating that a game can be so good yet the developers continue to screw up so many basic things (tire marks on the pavement), be delayed countless times and have features removed that they just couldn't pull off (what happened to variable weather/lighting?).

With all that said I still can't wait to get my hands on GT5... its a must have game for me as I've been addicted since GT1 back on the PS1.

My equipment list is here. Playstation Network ID = jmii ...that's JM roman numeral 2

GT5 will sell like gangbusters, regardless of when it ships. Hitting the holidays is not that big of a deal. there are plenty of great games to be bought by then.

I guess we can agree to disagree then? It may be a feature you want but to call the game a failure if it's not in there is a major overstatement, IMO.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue worth $15-20?

Used..

My mom works for Sony, and she brought home a copy of "Starhawk BETA"
I quickly slipped it into my trusty PS3, and started playing.
