I personally don't like the look of the PS3 Slim. I think it looks cheap and awkward overall. The fact that it's actually bigger than the regular PS3 in footprint is also a knock.

What do you guys think? You like glossy, chrome towers or matte, sleek components?

Just to note: This is only about the style of the device. All opinions welcome, no fighting please.

I don't like it at all. It looks like if you look at it for too long, it'll break. It just doesn't look sturdy when it's standing upright (yes, I've seen the kotaku video) especially since it has tactile buttons as opposed to the touch-sensitive buttons. One thing I do like about it is the hard drive placement.

Oh, and I absolutely dislike the new logo on it.

It looks cheaper because it is cheaper, so that should come as no surprise. I prefer glossy and snazzier looking myself, but also like things that don't collect dust and scratch as easily as the current PS3, so it's a wash there.

The size and weight difference is a big plus. So, I won't rush out to buy it. But when the current PS3 breaks, I'll go out and buy the new one, instead of sending the old one off for repair.

I agree with all of you on the looks and even more so I don't like how they have Frankensteined it, but I have already posted in some other threads in this and other forums how HDMI CEC and Bravia Link are huge for some one like me who has a Bravia tv.

Ok my mind is racing and I am like a kid high on sugar ...but...

I have all my components behind me, so now I could use the Bravia tv remote with one button to turn on and off the PS3, my Denon receiver which is HDMI CEC and the tv. And what maybe the coolest part is I could use the tv remote to watch BD's and have volume control, etc. which should satisfy some who want IR capability. Damn if we could add those two to our existing units, WOW!!. I now might have to get a slim and use it in my main media room and give one of the other PS3's to my son.

I think it looks great, but all this conjecture is silly since none of us has actually seen one - just pictures. It will look different in person. Maybe better, maybe worse. But overall, thin is in and I think smaller is better.

No finger prints on the case, and it doesn't look like there are as many places to pull in dust/dirt.

I don'T like it. I prefer my 60gb design. In fact, I might buy a "fat" 80 Gb just for a future replacement. Not digging the new style.

I really do wish I liked the looks more. My 80gb sounds like a jet engine right now. The slim is supposed to be virtually silent. I don't want to give away my PS2 BC either. Gah.

Well, truth be told I do like the original 60 best in the looks department. You really can't beat the piano black finish, it's curved features, the chrome, ect.

That said, the mat finish makes sense to me, as my original system has always had problems with dust buildup, which might also be a reason fro your jet engine fan (ever think of cleaning it if out of warranty). The foot print isn't that big a deal, and it's following in the other slim / re-releases footsteps. In fact, it looks exactly like the slim PS2, if it were to be made into a PS3's shape.

Plus, I'm sure these casings are much cheaper to produce, and it's passed on to the consumer.

So, jump on a original with the sales going on while you can. Because if you want a shiny PS3 at $150 tough beans buddy.

Well I am out of warranty but I still don't want to open it in case I need a paid repair in the future.

I don't agree about the comparison with the PSTwo. The PSTwo was (and is) really impressive. It is amazingly compact and much smaller than the PS2. The PS3 Slim is bigger than the console it was shrank from in places so it's not really the same at all. It looks like a strange half way point to what a "slim" version should actually look like.

I quickly slipped it into my trusty PS3, and started playing.

Sony will allow it, as long as you don't fool with, or break any of the internal components. They just won't honor their original warranty if that seal is broken, but will tell you they'll fix it for $150. Out of warranty, just don't fill it with jello and they'll fix it.

And if you're still worried, you can heat the sticker with a heat gun and it'll come right off and can be reused.

I don't think it will be an issue in the av rack. You won't be able to see the matte textured top from the couch. I just want it because my launch 60gb can get really loud once the fan kicks on.

I would buy it at $199, but at $299 I would pick the fat version. I own a 160GB and I love the way it looks, the slim is boring and cheap looking, but for $100 ($199) less than the fat I might consider it.

I heart shiny. And chromey. But the new slim is a better machine than the old ones, so looks aren't that important anyway.

I love it. Cant wait to get it on Sept 1st. What is there not to like? Its smaller, quieter, runs cooler with no worry about collecting fingerprints.

Goin right into my bedroom, so I love the fact its matte black and doesnt attract alot of attention. Now I just need a new 1080P flatscreen in there..
