I gotta say the track creator is easily the best creation tool I've ever seen in a game, PC games included.

Could spend 100's of hours on it.

The loading times in the demo are definitely better than the beta. Can't wait to get the full game next week.

Just finished playing a few rounds against my girlfriend. This is a definite must have. Brings me back to the Mario Kart days. I can't imagine the tracks people are going to come up with. I don't think I'll be spending time on the track creator but I'll be on all those user created tracks though. And of course I'll be customizing my guy and kart.
If I'm not on your friends list yet, add me ... user name = Dominikin ... see ya'll on the track.

Tried the demo last night. I spent more time customizing my Racer and Kart than racing

My GF was my cosmetic advisor, she didn't want to race split-screen with me, only make a "cute purple" outfit for the racer

Sucks that we can'T use our custom toon in the demo tho. Will probably pick this game up when I'll be bored of RDR.

i played the demo for about 10 minutes last night.... i didn't really look at the controls, so that made things interesting... i didn't care for the handling of the cars, felt way too lose (alsmot as if they were hovercraft rather than racing vehicles). But towards the ned I was enjoying the game... I probably won't purchase day 1 but down the line maybe

I was bummed I couldn't really race on the track I created in the demo. Even with the limited tools/objects, I really enjoyed the process and the results. Much less tedious than LBP, for which I didn't have the patience. I can definitely see myself getting into this, either on my own or with my gf and her daughter, just for the enjoyment.

I agree, I had fun making my own track last night but was disappointed that I couldn't race on it, only test drive it. Also disappointed in the fact I couldn't use my kart and toon. Or maybe I didn't see it. I know it's just a demo but still, why give me the option if I can't use it. I know, I know, to show me the feature

I finally got around to playing the demo... while the customization of vehicles and mods was a little tricky to get started with at first, the track editor was AMAZING, so simple to use you could seriously crank out a usable track in less than three minutes with the autopopulate function and the way the editor works... just... wow

It looks like a fun game but I wish it had sixaxis controls. Wouldn't be that hard to throw in as an option. Handling with the stick is really wobbly. The customization in the demo is kind of a let down.

Do races in the full version take two minutes to load?

I'm glad that tomorrow I'll be able to play the full game, really looking forward to this one.

In playing the demo, some tips I found (which may be obvious to some but not all):

- You can get a boost at the start (a la mario kart) by pressing L1 (boost) as the light goes green.
- You seem to get more bang-for-your-buck off your boost meter if you use it during a power slide. I found that you can even just give it a bit of a tap during a powerslide and get quite a bit of extra speed out of it.
- Hold down x for a second then release it to shoot your weapons backwards.

My 7 year old loves it so far on the demo. Glad to see they are goign to address the load tiems because I can tell you that was very frustrating to me and him to have the eternal load times to go race.

Am I the only one that doesn't think the load times are that bad? i mean it takes just as long to load up a game of battlefield bad company between matches and nobody complains about that

It's actually not that bad. I wouldn't call it fast, but other racing games like Forza 3, Dirt 2, etc are just as bad. Nobody complains about load times in BC2 because you get to stare at your stats between rounds.

I haven't tried it yet, but I hear it's been improved since the Beta. Bad press takes awhile to disappear, but at least it's being worked on. I'm glad to hear it may not be all that terrible. Is it worse than Motorstorm? That game had loading time issues IMHO, but was still fun.

Motorstorm was the worst, it took 30 seconds to load each car you wanted to choose from before the race!

Ugh the hate I have for that game is so strong...

This illustrates a problem I have with published reviews from gaming sites and magazines based on betas: they often color the perception of the final game whether they are still relevant issues or not.

I haven't picked up the game yet, but I don't doubt that load times aren't unusual/abnormal, however several reviews still rated the game down for it. Similarly but mostly unrelated, MAG's beta was poorly received and I believe many reviewers rated the final release largely based on their lingering feelings regarding the beta.

The MAG issue isn't relevant to this thread, however I just wish developers would ONLY release closed betas instead of allowing them to the public. While I acknowledge that not all closed beta members will be able to distinguish between a demo and a beta, I would think that reviewers should.

I think the public beta brought the load time issue to light and forced them to address it. So in my eyes public betas are good. I don't have the final game yet, but if the load times are like the demo, then they are fine with me.

they don't bother me either. but motorstorms load times didn't either, but i am biased with that game because it is still one of my favorite arcade racers.

My $.02 based only on the demo...

Amazing track editor (that Crash Bandicoot track is great!)
Horrible load times (claimed to be fixed at launch?)
Somewhat boring gameplay (even my son, who loves Mario Kart, does not care for it)
Odd view (not sure what it is but it just feels strange, maybe this can be adjusted but I didn't see it)

I picked it up for $50 at Fry's.... this is a VERY fun title. It has perhaps the deepest play mechanics of any kart racer ever made. I love the turbo drift counter-steer technique, which is one of the slick tactics the game allows without making it too demanding to do by average-skilled players. The power-ups seem fair, especially with the shield button available, and the A.I. so far has been tough without cheating (no rubber band nonsense).

I've already dloaded a number of cool characters that people have designed. Besides the Marios and Spidermans, they also have some obscure characters up already like Skullomania from the Street Fighter EX series.

The initial load up is long, but it seems ok after that. It'll get better with the patch, so no worries. This is the must have racer to goof around with until GT5 hits IMHO.

Picked up a copy yesterday and after several hours of play I would agree with your assessment.

Enjoy the track editor & modding over the racing.

The commentators are hilarious--which helped make up for the the gawd awful slow load times.

Need to spend more time with this one, it hasn't hooked me yet.

I would recommend renting this one before pulling the trigger on a purchase.
