They need to hurry up and release this stuff. My daughter and I were sitting in front of the TV this weekend wishing we had something new to play. I'm burned out on everything we have for family games, and after 4 hours of hearing LBP music I was about to go postal.

I think what he meant was being really close improves accuracy. Sure you may be more accurate close up, but it'll take 5x as much time to move across the screen. The longer the distance the longer that time. If there was more than one guy on the screen you'd be screwed.

Thanks for the intelligent reply man unlike some of these *insert expletive here*. I guess the part where they said THE CAMERA NEED NOT ALWAYS SEE THE BALL to operate kinda slipped their memory. Wow some people
But yes I'm hoping there is some kind of distance requirement/limitation to keep the cheesing down and have people play the game as intended.

It guesses at its location, getting less accurate the more you move. Do you think this will work well and let you cheat?

Do you think that these people online will not try to find the smallest crack in the system to exploit and cheat? I don't know which internet you play on but the one I play PS3, 360 and PC on for every 1 guy that plays straight up 99 others cheat their butts off.

No doubt that as this controller becomes more common among the "hardcore," we'll find exploits. It happened with the original NES controllers. Why wouldn't it happen with these? But until we get them in our hands, there's no way of knowing what the most obvious cheats will or won't be.

To me, this particular "cheat" sounds like a non issue. If it's using the camera to measure position (similar to the Wii's pointer), then being right up on the screen won't matter because the camera won't read the position. If it's measuring position using the gyroscopes and magnetic detectors, then it doesn't matter how close you are since the same amount of movement will read the same way at any distance. But that's just my best guess based on the tech we've seen and had described to us.

How would the PS3 know how big your TV is to allow you to move around and kill people so easily? That definitely doesn't work on the Wii

Exactly. From everything I've seen and read, the camera is used more for the overlay tech and relative position (like in EyePet and that hair-trimming game).

I'm not sure there's any direct one-to-one pointer stuff going on (i.e., I don't think you can look down the "barrel" of your controller at a corresponding point on the screen). From what I can tell based on the SOCOM demo, "pointing" is actually generated by motion sensors in the controller (magnetic and gyroscope tech), not by the camera-orb tech. It's all being calculated by small hand movements rather than working like the Wii does through a rough IR pointer technology.

IMO this has been one of the biggest limiting factors in the Wii. But it seems reasonable that the PS Move could use the known value of the camera position relative to a stationary point (the orb) to then calculate the stationary position of your display and its dimensions. So even if you change your position, it should still know where you are relative to the camera (and to your display). So I suppose it actually could do a direct 1-to-1 pointer tech, but I haven't seen that yet in any of the demos. Anyone?

From everything they've said, that definitely seems like it could.

I'm just happy it's basically taking the WM+ technology and tying a camera to it to stop the internals from losing their "place."

Anyone know how will this work with projectors? I cannot use the eyetoy because the PJ is too far way and nothing works if the USB extension is longer than 6ft.

If you can't use eye toy, it doesn't matter what kind of TV you have, it's not going to work. Seems obvious that since these depend on the eye toy that they aren't going to work if you can't use it.

Have you considered trying a powered USB hub attched to a longer USB cable?

Heavy Rain now confirmed to get a Move patch. Once I heard the rumor, I stopped playing HR since I know I'll want Move for FPS titles (I was only 30 minutes into the game). We'll see how well it works together.

Sony's on record regarding Move's response time. It's as fast as 22 milliseconds, which is slightly more than one frame in a 60 fps game, and less than one frame in a 30 fps game. That's while maintaining pixel-perfect accuracy.

Is that actually confirmed for Dead Space Extraction? The quoted article is just guessing:

Since the Wii title was based on the Wii-motes functionality, Move and Natal support could potentially be added to the game to give off a fun rail-based shooting experience for the new control options Sony and Microsoft will introduce later this year.

The game on the Wii is 100% motion controls. It was designed to be different than the first game in that specific way. It makes zero sense not to have Move as an option if not a dedicated control.

It's on rails, isn't it? I never picked it up for the Wii (along with 99.9% of the other Wii owners). I can't imagine using a controller to move the cross hairs.

So, I won't even consider it if it doesn't support Move.

It's on rails and uses motion control, no need to use a controller to move the cross hairs.

That's kinda my point. Someone said they were just guessing that Deadspace: Extraction would use Move.

I was saying that if it comes to the PS3 with anything other than Move compatible controls that I won't buy it.

Oh yeah. I don't think it would even come to PSN w/o Move either, that'd be stupid.

Hey, this is a pretty neat feature in The Shoot.... the PSEye is used for defense. As you aim the Move controller to fire in this on-rails game (a la Virtua Cop), you can dodge left and right with your head and the camera will dodge incoming projectile attacks in the game. It's shown at about the 1:40 mark of this developer diary video:

Interesting tech fact I recently came across... apparently the SIXAXIS controls detect movement at a rate of 300 degrees per second. The Move detects movement at 2500 degrees per second. That's one reason why it'll be effective in games that traditionally needed a mouse for maximum accuracy.
