Simple question: I guess its a right place to post..

Question is Can I connect PS3 eye with MonopriceUSB extender with 100' Cat 6 cable back to Ps3.

I hope it will work - if not whats the solution to connect the PS3 Eye to PS3 (located inside the closet)

I would suggest a powered Cat5e solution like this one. I have not had much luck with passive extenders. Given the price difference, it may be worth trying the passive solution and returning it if it doesn't work as advertised.

Just finished running the cat 6 and setting up the mono price USB over Ethernet adaptor. It doesn't work with the eye. It's only USB 1 compatible. Stay away.

Look in the move thread. Can't link as I am on the iPhone. Last post had a good link. Alternative is active repeaters USB cable - monoprice has them 2.0 compliant

For anyone looking for a good extension, I've had good luck with the monoprice 32' active 2.0 extension.

#6149 33FT 10M USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Active Extension / Repeater Cable $10.20

Available at Monoprice.com I have used it on my PS3 to connect eye camera to PS3 USB port. Works perfectly as a 33' extension. I am using it with the Move controller games.

Agreed, the USB over CAT5/6 does not work. I used the active repeater and it works great. You can daisy chain the active repeaters.

guys,

my PS3 is in an a/v closet about 20 feet away from my tv. Just ordered the Move bundle today.

Also ordered the 33ft USB extender from Monoprice. From those of you who have used it, do you notice any lag (or any other problems)?

It seems like one reviewer on Amazon who was using a similar cable, about 33ft, but from a different manufacturer, may have been noticing some lag. But his review seems kind of stupid, so maybe he's just crazy.

I'm sure you guys would notice lag, etc. with the Monoprice cable, right?

I want this to work so bad....please tell me its perfect....

THanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Speed of propagation in coaxial cable is generally about 65% to 80% of the speed of light. You'd have to have a reeeally long cable to notice any lag.

why is there a supposed 15ft limitation on USB cables then? Apparently runs longer than that suffer from dropouts and lag.

At least that's what I've been hearing...

It's because the copper wire inside the cable isn't 100% efficient, and it acts as a resistor. And the longer the cable, the more resistance. Resistance doesn't slow the data down, but it reduces it (some of the electrical energy is lost to heat). So the signal could be degraded enough that the devices cannot communicate properly.
