I "came across" a MKV file of Cloudy with a chance of meatballs Bluray 3D. It plays fine in side by side mode on my PC using windows classic home cinema but when i try to stream it to my PS3 to play on my 58VT25 the PS3 says unsupported data. Is what im trying to do possible? i do have the PS3 hooked up to my tv with a HDMI 1.3 cable and i am able to play the 3D demos properly.
Sorry i failed to add this but i'm using PS3 media server to stream my mkv's and they all work perfectly. This Full HD 3D mkv is the only file that is giving me problems. When highlight the file and press triangle it says the resolution is 3840x1080... basically FULL HD 3D.
I would expect that somebody is going to need to create a new streaming tool, like PS3 Media Server, that will be able to handle 3D content. Unfortunately, the wait for that might be quite a long time.
I actually got no response on the PMS forums but i did receive one in the playstation area of an xbox forum. Go figure!
I spent couple hours googling different combinations of "3D MKV stream PS3" and i found this forum called x360c. In the playstn area there was poster bragging about being able to play 3d mkv's over pms. i msg him and he said the problem is the high resolution. he said i would have to use a program to cut the 3840x1080 in half in order for the PS3 to play it. He said he assumes once the 3D update is released the Full HD 3D file should be able to play fine.
So my next question is, what program would you recommend to reduce the resolution of mkvs?
Hello, yes it does support that format. I just took the two files and merged them with a program called 3DMerge using side by side format and now I am able to stream 3DBD movies to my ps3 using ps3mediaserver.
