My bad - I haven't used PlayOn (only have Macs at home), but my understanding was that it allowed you to stream your desktop web browser to your TV. Clearly I was pretty spectacularly wrong.

My criticism of the PS3 Netflix app's search scope is still true (and I hope they upgrade it to match the browser experience in the future), but is completely irrelevant. Oops.

Fired this up on my Slim last night. I think I'll play all my HD content thru my PS3. I put a 10/100 switch behind my PS3 and 360 so that my PS3 can come off the Wifi. Video quality was perfectly acceptable (though I'll admit I was only streaming Season 1 of The Tudors).

PS3 setup probably works better for my wife anyway - I have the BT Remote control so the navigation is a little more native for her.

I use wireless for my ps3 and still get perfect quality. I don't think wired is really going to make a difference.

Maybe not. Probably not (my PS3 was reporting 95% signal str). But for the 20 bucks I spent on the Netgear switch, I figured what the hell.

Yeah. Only $20 bucks then I wouldn't blame you. My wire less is 100% signal. (My PS3 is only about 20 feet away from my router)

I'm honestly surprised in the PQ that NetFlix has to offer. It's really worth the money.

Amazon was selling the 4 port 10/100 Netgear swtich for 20 beans. MSRP 50. I'm pretty sure I saw it at Best Buy for 50, so for 20 I was all in. Plus it has no fan or anything else to whir or fail. Just a nice, tiny, metal, 4 port switch.

Doesn't surprise me. Best buy tends to overprice. I work there and still don't buy stuff from em. They overprice on everything.

As for Netflix. I tried the wire set up. The only thing I notice that is different is how long it takes for the resolution to get to it's max. On wireless it takes about 45 seconds to a min. Wired it takes about 30.

The only thing I plan on buying from them is a new reciever (mostly b/c I don't want it getting slung around the back of a UPS truck if I buy it from Amazon). I'm going to take the shaft on it though - I just know it.

Yeah. I don't blame you. Online can be risky as well. In store is safe. Then again. Always depends where you buy from

Eh ... good point. I guess I'm visualizing a nice tightly packed truck full of electronics, but somewhere along the line I suppose they all bounce along somewhere.

I know everyone likes to bash on UPS, but in my direct experience, manufacturers do much more damage using the freight carriers they use to get their product to the points of purchase, than UPS does getting it from the store to the consumer.

That said, at least when you buy it locally, you can take it back easily if it is broken. Which is worth piece of mind to some people. Personally, the amount of money I’ve saved buying electronics online would make it worthwhile just throwing away the errant piece of electronics that was broken every once in a while, much less deal with having it shipped back.

The only time I received something that was DOA, the online vendor (Buy.com) cross shipped me a replacement after I emailed them to say it was faulty. They even emailed me a shipping tag to return the faulty merchandise. YMMV, but if you buy from decent online vendors, you should be good to go.

I've unloaded trucks at Best Buy. If it went from a warehouse to a location by truck, the point is moot.

And, I also bought an Onkyo receiver, and lots of other electronics from Amazon without any difficulty. Not to mention basses, amps, etc, from plenty of other places that got to my house okay.

Netflix has been awesome thus far but the best streaming quality wise that I have witnessed was from VUDU . I suggest you try it on the PS3 . Very impressive!

Netflix is almost instantaneous for me on fios. Load time is no longer a concern, and I'm a stickler for immediate response. Seriously, playback in less than one second and x-high/hd in around three to five seconds. Because few videos have real content in the first few seconds, the few seconds of low res are nearly imperceptible.

Vudu content has better average quality. Netflix has the ability for that level of quality but currently doesn't offer much at that level. In my opinion 1080/5.1 netflix is indistinguishable from blu-ray for the majority of people. Granted, this probably isn't true for the typical avs forum user.

Yea i was going to say the bit rate compare to a good BR is very noticeable . Beyond the wording 1080p , with streaming bit rate is my most concern, there a huge difference between a BRs PQ and a Netflix streamed movie. But VUDU from my findings are def superior as far as PQ.

Why would it take time to load? It's always been almost instant. Least for me. Idk why it would be different for anyone else. IMO. You can't beat the quality on Netflix. Looks like pure HD to me

I have to investigate VUDU more. I know there is a small thread on it here, but if its so superior I would expect that thread to be more active.

I'm all for content, no matter where !

It just released, and it's a pay per use service . Of course Netflix $ wise is more appealing I'n that aspect being out 10x longer. I wouldn't base my intrest on something on thread creation I'n these type of forums because the gaming section here is rather small compared to other sites which do talk about it. There's not much talk about anything gaming here for the most part lol

I worked at a competitor. Trust me that stuff isn't handled any better by a B&M retailer than what you'll get from Amazon.

I got a receiver from Amazon that I ended up not liking. I let them know, they paid for the shipping back, it was honestly a no-hassle transaction from start to finish. I was so impressed I got my next one from them, which I kept.

Oh, you don't have to sing the praises of Amazon to me - I've been a Prime member for 2 years and will be re-upping in January. Amazon Prime is worth every penny to me, and Amazon has gotten litterally thousands of my spending dollars.

If it's that important to you then you could just do torrents and have the money a month before anyone gets it. Even sooner. NetFlix is very convenient.
