Can someone who has used it tell me if there is a search function in the new Netflix app. I've been using my 360 to stream netflix, but if PS3 has a search function I'll definitely switch to it. 360 is getting a search function with the next dashboard update, but I don't think it will be able to do 1080p.

The 5.1 alone will make me switch to PS3 for now (I'll see what comes out for the 360 next month with the dash update...hopefully it's upgraded as well)

So IM is in 5.1? Nice to see that even some SD titles will have it. I watched IM a couple of weeks ago, and looked pretty decent for an SD title.

It does have a search feature and it works quite nicely. It is fast and refreshes as you type each letter. Well done.

I just experimented with a season 4 episode of 30 Rock that when I hit the display button showed X-High/HD and 5.1 (On my Panny plasma info screen, it, and everything else, including SD content, showed 1080p).

While the quality of the 30 Rock episode was quite good, especially the sound, the video quality was close, but certainly didn't surpass what I get from the cable TV broadcast (NBC broadcasts in 1080i, correct?). Not that I was expecting it to surpass HD cable, but with 1080p, I was hopeful. On the other hand, most SD content on Netflix has always been better than SD cable, which I never watch.

All in all, I am very happy with disc-less streaming. As someone else said, it just keeps getting better.

It looks like movies that are 5.1 will display that on the info section of the movie.

Example, Brokeback mountain says HD 5.1 while Secret of Kells says only HD

I downloaded and installed the new Netflix streaming app to my PS3 a little while ago but can't get it to work. I am prompted to sign in but that requires entering my email address and password. Unfortunately that screen doesn't have a graphic for letters, so I can't login because neither my Harmony remote nor the PS3 game controller has letters. Any suggestions as to how to work around the problem would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Never mind, I finally figured out how to get to the letters graphic and managed to sign in. I am very excited about the capabilities added to NF's streaming client for PS3.

Does the new PS3 Netflix app give you the ability to choose RGB or YCbCr output?

Is there an option to disable upscaling?

Can anyone BITSTREAM DD+ to their receiver?

It is a item on the Video tab now.

Picture is blured, but it is no better then before

It did play in 5.1 & sounded amazing (best streamed audio I have heard)

I have this 30 Rock on DVD. The picture of the DVD is superior (Sony BDP-570 to Sony A2020 60" projection), but the sound is virtually the same. Can't wait to see the 360 implementation of this.

I will be switching to the PS3 app (from 360) for the obvious quality improvements, at least until the 360 is updated. I have a couple quick questions about the PS3 interface though. Obviously, I could check this when I get home, but if someone could post back, I'd appreciate it.

On the 360 app, it's really easy to identify most things that I care about on a title. When you "hover" over a title, you get some pertinent information such as rating, running time, and if it's available in HD. I am assuming none of that is available on PS3 until you click on the title?

While quality would be nice to know at a glance, I wouldn't have an SD title in there if I didn't want to watch it, so I actually find the running time to be very important for me to know at a glance. For example, if it's 11:00 at night, I would watch a 90 minute movie, but not a 120 minute movie, so on the 360, I'll usually just scroll through quickly finding something that meets my time requirements. Is this easy to find on the PS3 or would you have to click on each title?

Equally important to me is on the 360, you get a nice bold red warning indicator if something is about to expire when you "hover" over a title. Does this show on the PS3? I know Mulholland Falls and P2 are currently in my queue and show up as expiring November 1 (so if someone could check how those titles show on the PS3, I'd appreciate it). This has always been a nice indicator of things I need to make sure I watch. Netflix doesn't even display this info on the site, so I count on this indicator as my notice. Feedfliks does include this, but it's not highlighted or as "in your face" as the 360 app is.

Just curious how the PS3 handles some of this stuff, especially running time and expiration date (if at all). I guess the better question would be is what does show (if anything) on a hover on the PS3? Or do you have to actually go into the title information screen to get any additional info besides the title/cover?

Thanks to a tip from another poster, I am watching Undisputed 3 (don't ask). The good news, though, is that the PS3 indicates that the streaming video is X-High/HD and the audio is 5.1 The HD video is adequate, although not spectacular, but the 5.1 audio is out of this world. The bad news is that I haven't been able to find an option for subtitles. Has anybody figured out how to find whether subtitles are available and, if so, how to turn them on?

Hi mproper, when hover over a title it does display what you just mention (rating, time, HD 5.1 (if available), brief description of movie).

Hi nineteen, how did you get DD 5.1 or are you sure its not displaying DPLII? What are your PS3 settings (LPCM or Bitstream)?

I have a Slim PS3 set to Bitstream and playing IM (1) its show DPLII and not DD 5.1.

If you change it to LCPM does it display DD?

Is there a comprehensive list anywhere of films and TV shows that NF streams? As I continue to look into how the service works, I notice that at the NF site a lot of films I type into their database are only available on DVD. I'd want to get a better sense of what the $8 a month has access to before I decide on whether to get it or not.

Are you a member? If so, there's a whole Watch Instant tab. If not, you can check out www.instantwatcher.com (which I recommend even if you are a member)

I really like instantwatcher.com. I check out the 'new' tab and 'genre' tab often and you can sort by just HD titles. Hopefully they add 5.1 and 1080 options soon.

I check out a lot of Rotten Tomato titles (in genre section) that I otherwise may have never known about.

Anyone using a Harmony remote to control Netflix?

How do you exit out of Netflix?

I had to use the PS3 game contoller and press PS button to exit out.

When I set up my 880 for the PS3 it applied the PS button to one of the soft keys, that's what I used to back out of the app. It's a bit strange as for everything else I've used the Stop key, took me a bit to figure out to use the PS button with the Netflix app this morning.

To be honest, I'm not sure it defaulted that way or whether I added it afterwords, but it's simple to do.

Great to hear. I'll definitlely be switching over to Netflix on PS3 at least until I can compare it with the 360's update. My PS3 also boots up and logs in much quicker than my PS3 so that's another bonus.

You could always just sign up for a free trial. It's easy to opt out at the end. I did it once before I decided to sign up permanently.

I'm not worried about the quality. I hear good reports on the update and I've already tried out PSN movie dloads to see what 720P HD and 5.1 audio are like.

The price is decent, so it comes down to selection. I checked out the HD streams list at the instantwatcher.com site (I assume 720P and up), and it seems that 'B' movies and below are what's available for the most part. After going through a few genre pages, 95% of it is stuff I wouldn't watch for free. Maybe as the service expands they'll add more quality selections in HD to stream.
