This isn't breaking news, but I am frustrated that we can't watch a lot of streaming video sites. Why won't they update the flash version on the PS3?

Same reason why companies don't do it for Smart TVs that have a web browser in them. What are some of the streaming videos you are trying to see?

The 5.0 is here

Actually, no. I was trying to watch Speed channel's coverage of the 24 Hours of LeMans. It was streaming beautifully on my laptop, but no luck on the PS3. It's the same story for many network's streaming.

How about that race! One of the best 24's in the last 10 years IMO.

Just a related fyi for the future if you also watch the ALMS- since the ALMS went to that stupid ESPN3 format this year your PS3 won't steam those races either due to some exclusive deal allowing x-box streaming only........and as of the last race the live stream on the alms website only streamed outside the US due to a licensing issue in the ESPN contract that ol' Scotty A didn't read.
The only way I found to watch the ALMS races on my big TV (no laptop) was by purchasing a service called "playon" to stream the video from the computer to the PS3.

The PS3 browser exists solely so they can say they have one.

It's essentially the same as the PSP browser, which is still just as bad as it was in 2005.

"Do you want to run the plug-in?"

"Uh, what plug-in? What's a plug-in, for that matter?"

"Out of memory"

In other words, don't hold your breath.
