If that is true I'd buy one in a heartbeat just for the remote play at home. I don't even like portable gaming in general but that is dirt cheap for those who fine it. I imagine there are enough PS+ games now to cover $100 worth easily as well.

Absolutely. I bought a Vita a few weeks after getting the PS4. I've logged way more time on my vita than my ps4 so far and only a very small portion of that is using remote play.

I bought a Vita couple of weeks ago and I have ~7 games from PS+ to play (member for more than a month)

Totally worth it if you have PS+!

Yeah I could see that. My kids are addicted to those cheap Free and $.99 iphone games so not sure they'd use much. I personally wish I could play all the PSP and Vita games on the big screen via some emulator running on the PS3/PS4.

There was cables you could buy to plug the PSP into the TV and play it on the screen. Don,t know if such cables exist for the vita tho.

And the resolution wasn't great for the PSP.. don't know how it would look for the Vita.. better actually but still... rolleyes.gif

Yeah, I think only Dev kids have them for Vita's. Probably removed to save costs. I'd love an emulator, even with low resotuion compared to PS4/PS3 games.

I'm going to guess the $99 vita was an open-box model. This week is Clearance week at BB for openbox/closeout items.

There was an interesting piece on Kotaku about how to determine if a console is worth buying:

http://tay.kotaku.com/whats-the-appropriate-cost-of-fun-1513061641/1513207740/@tinaamini

Basically, it's the (cost of the device + cost of the games offered that you want to play) divided by the number of hours of playtime offered by those games. If the result of under $2.99/hour, the console is worth purchasing. For the writer of the piece, the PS4 doesn't yet meet that threshold, but the Vita does, even at $199.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Interesting article. Problem is I know I'm going to be buying a lot of games down the road so I don't mind putting up the money now for the console even if it doesn't have the same library at lunch as a year or so away. To me it is worth being an early adopter even with dealing with gaming droughts. I still have other consoles to supplement me of course. Pretty spoiled to have a large backlog on the PS3.

The Vita of course has been out quite a bit longer so it is mathematically going dominate the PS4 on their metrics.

Borderlands 2/Vita Slim Bundle coming this spring!! Kind of surprised by this... didn't think development of this game was so far along. Sucks that we only get the black Vita (as usual). Here's hoping for a Khaki Minecraft Bundle.

LAZY QUESTION: Is there a secret to making remote play operate smoothly inside the same LAN? My PS4 is wired and vita is on 2.4GHz wireless. Randomly the connection just is as slow as molasses. I've only had the system (vita) since Friday and haven't really spent time researching the ideal setup, but figured I'd be lazy and ask tongue.gif

thanks in advance.

Mine seems to work fine as long as I'm withing 15-20 feet of my wireless router (and I have a good one). But as soon as I move to the bedroom through one wall it is very hit or miss and I get a lot of weird graphical artifacts.

I now think I might want a Vita, do you guys think I should just wait a little longer to get the newer version?

Yea. Its a bit thicker too. I scored a used one before their sales at a local game store when I traded all my stuff in. Its worth it for trips or lunch at work. I think anyway.

I like the OLED, I would say go for it. But if you are going over your data now then I wouldnt use your 4G till you increase your data limit. When the wife wants to go to Target I sit in the car and use the remote play connected to my phone. It plays fine for the most part and comes in handy. Now that you are a traveling man I would recommend one.

I've been watching the 64 GB cards on Amazon, but wasn't comfortable ordering from Japan and waiting some unspecified time. They've been up to $140 for Prime (meaning that they're here, in the country) but they've just finally hit $116 again. To put it in perspective, the 32 is still going for $99 (not that I paid that for mine) and there's no word of the 64's release here. When it does release, it'll be $99 (probably) so I went ahead and bit the bullet for an "extra" $16. It arrives tomorrow.

Nice! If they were cheaper I would bite the bullet too... no time to play my vita enough to justify buying the 64 gb card rolleyes.gif

I was hoping the vita and the ps4 would have an itunes like interface where you can pick and choose what games to sync. But it seems that is never going to happen. Best I can do is keep everything on two memory cards. But switching out memory cards is slow and organizing your bubbles is thrown out the window when switched.
I've found syncing with pc is much faster. But the interface is the same as if connecting to consoles.
Sony isn't getting anymore of my handheld gaming budget for hardware or memory cards. If a 128gig card was released tomorrow for 20 bucks I would not even bother. Is there a resell market for old slow 32 gig vita cards?
Vita is two years old but feels like 5.
But I have got to get that Borderlands 2 version.

I'm thinking of picking up a Vita. A couple of questions:

1) Am I really going to care about old model versus new model?
2) How bothersome is it to deal with the expensive memory, I gather there is a PC transfer tool, which sounds as if you can download your games to PC. Since I travel for work, I almost always have my PC with me. If I kept all of my games on there and had only say, an 8gb card, how big of PITA is it transfer games?
3) I'm very interested in replaying FFX (and also FFX-2, since I never played it), but are there other good RPGs available? Unfortunately can't bring myself to game on the PS3 anymore, so Vita it is, if I get one
4) Does remote play work with every PS4 game, does anyone use it with regularity or is it just a cool novelty thing at first?

1. Probably not.
2. No worse than using that virus iTunes.
3. You should find something to scratch that itch. Lots of PSP and PS2 stuff on there and some new ones.
4. I can't answer that one.

4) It works on every ps4 game, it's part of the os. Some games handle it better than others though by altering the control scheme when it knows you are playing on Vita.

That being said, it only works well if you are no more than 20-25 feet from the console and in direct line of sight. So I don't use it much. There are a ton of good vita games out though, so you shouldn't have trouble finding things to play. I bought mine fore remote play but have used it way more for vita and ps1/2 games.

You can store the Vita games on PC? Time for Google, this sounds awesome. I'm stuck on two 8 GB cards so I shuffle games around when the mood takes me.
