It is very common for businesses to block "home network" IP addresses.

What? What would a home network IP address even be?
Regardless, I assumed the Vita connects to PSN, not directly to the PS4, meaning the IP address would be to Sony. But I wonder if the PS4 is doing some proprietary VPN type solution.

Got this beauty while in China.

I was hesitant to switch to a 2000 because of the rumored screen deficiency, but remote play does look much sharper on it than on my 1000. It's so much lighter and the PS and start and select buttons are so much better. It's annoying that Asian Vitas have X and O switched for system level stuff though. I was repeatedly assured that it's only from the system screens and not in games, but a lot of games use the system menu to save. The sticks also seem stiffer, but it's not a four year old Vita like my 1000.

Nice... I want one!! It would be great if the X/O switch was for everything though. Because of the custom button mapping introduced in the last firmware, you could just switch it back to to the N. American standard.

I thought that was only on the PS4.

On PS4 it's very easy to toggle the custom buttons, is it just as easy on the Vita?

Nice Macello, Did you go perusing through those enormous electronic stores/malls or were you looking for it specifically?

I was looking for it specifically. I showed my coworker pictures of it six months ago and said I'd love to have one, but it was very expensive to import then. Now it's $200 on Amazon with Prime to boot. I paid $174 for it in China. It's different when you're holding it in your hands though. I got it in a dedicated gaming store. I also tried to get that limited edition Vita case, but they only came with official Chinese Vitas and the first run of them. My pink Vita is from Hong Kong.

IP blocks used for home users are well known, documented, and web filtering applications (ie Websense) have these categorized in the filtering applications.

In the last few days my PS Vita Remote Play of the PS4 has been strangely jittery. Everything is perfectly smooth for about 10 seconds, then the video freezes yet still plays audio, for about 1 to 2 seconds, then the video catches up. It's a very regular interval and doesn't seem to be poor bandwidth as it can be inches from the PS4 and it still does this. I've used remote play several times a week for the last year without any issues, it's always been perfectly fine! I think it worked fine on Sunday 6/28 but on Tuesday 6/30 it became jumpy. I've updated firmware on the PS4 and Vita since then, as coincidentally new firmware updates were queued. Playing on the PS4 with controller is still perfectly fine. Anybody else having sudden issues?

My remote play wouldn't connect after I updated to the latest Vita firmware this past weekend. I too had no issues connecting to the ps4 in my house until this latest update. I'll have to try it again but this will really limit what I do with the Vita if I can't reliably connect anymore.

I fixed it! It was either one of these 2 changes:
1. There was no HDTV connected to the PS4 at the moment. On Monday I removed it to replace the TV's power supply board that failed. Today I put a temporary 24" TV on the PS4 and the PS Vita remote play is all back to normal.
2. On the Vita, in the PS4 Link app, I clicked Settings and then did "Restore Settings". This removed the ability of the systems to see each other. I then associated the 2 devices again by entering the code that the PS4 showed on the TV (the reason I had to hook a TV back up lol), and now remote play works flawlessly again.

I have to say... I LOVE remote play! The family is often taking over the family room, or my playing some games in front of the kids is just not appropriate for their sheltered minds, and thus being able to do remote play is a good option. Add a trigger grips to the Vita and it's comfortable for long sessions.

I set the remote play framerate to high which gives 60fps, this feature came out a few months ago. In actuality I barely notice a difference between that and standard. However setting to high requires a stronger wifi adhoc connection so I can't be too far away.

OK I got this figured out. When no TV is connected to the PS4 then remote play will be glitchy. If I connect a TV, I have to first power off the PS4 and boot back up. I'm guessing it has to do with HDCP and being unable to complete the negotiation process, so remote play freaks out every ~8 seconds (no proof of that, just a hunch).

For anybody else that ever complains of remote play being choppy, there was another thing I discovered half a year ago. Disable that NEAR app from auto-checking in. That would cause a hang with remote play every 10 minutes or so. Once disabled, everything runs smooth, and I mean veerrrrrrry smoooooooooth. Love it!

I believe that near was actually removed.

HDCP can also be disabled from the PS4 settings.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/...is-november-2/

Quote:
Starting in November, the Aqua Blue PS Vita will be available in the U.S. exclusively at GameStop for $199.99 (MSRP).

Pre-orders for the Aqua Blue PS Vita are now live, so make sure to head over to GameStop.com or your local GameStop store to stake your claim. This is the first time that the slimmer, lighter PS Vita has been available in a color other than black in the U.S.

PS Vita is home to more than 1,000 games and sports the ability to stream most PlayStation 4 games from your PS4 via Remote Play. And with the recent launch of PlayStation Now on PS Vita and titles like Super Time Force Ultra, Super Meat Boy and Minecraft: Story Mode making their way to PS Vita, it’s the perfect time to pick up the system – and trust me, that Aqua Blue color looks even better in person.

Knowing the passionate PS Vita fan base as I do, the color won’t last long, so pre-order tomorrow and get ready to enjoy yet another reason that PlayStation is the best place to play!
Finally!!!

Resurrection!

So, I'm thinking of getting one of those white Vita imports on amazon. Wish I'd gotten a regular one when they were on sale MANY times over the years, but you never know when you want what you want. I live on the road mostly, so this will be a handy item, if I can find games I like.

My only confusion is about transferring games. I'll probably murder my wallet with one of their 64g cards for games. But, is the only way to get games downloading from the vita itself?

Because of PS+ I have a ton of games in my library that I can play, but only so many games will fit on a card. I was wondering if I can somehow transfer the game files to a hard drive then move them to the card somehow?

You can download Vita games to a PS3 and then copy them to your Vita.

http://manuals.playstation.net/docum.../game_ps3.html

Note that for PS+ games, your Vita will need to have internet access the first time you launch the game, so the system can verify that your PS+ account is still active.

It's funny you resurrected this. I just plugged my Vita in last night and plan on doing some gaming on it. It appears my Nyko Power Grip has failed.

Well I finally own a vita. Have to get home (probably will take me a week to get there) so I can pick it up. I've read up on the best vita games from various places and luckily I own several through PS+. Lot's of Persona 4 and other JRPG types which I just don't like, but plenty of other seemingly good games.

I have yet to see the menu system and all that. I'm wondering, when I want to go and download these games or any of my games owned because of PS+, will there be a list of only the games I own when I log into the machine? Do I have to go searching for the games that I own? If there's just a list of only what I own that would be nice, otherwise I'm going to compile a list of which games I want to download while I'm at home.

Congrats on getting a Vita.. Unfortunately, downloading the games you already own isn't as easy as it is on the current gen home consoles. It's more like the PS3 or the web store. To see the games you already own, go to the PS Vita store and view your download list. The list includes your PS4/PS3 games as well and there is no way to filter it. If you're like me and have been grabbing all the PS+ freebies for a number years, this can be a bit of a pain, because the list is huge (over 1600 in my case).

That's what I was afraid of. While searching the top games and then trying to find them through the ps website, I realized it's a bad system. I will have to compile my list and prioritize my downloading schedule.

I've been gathering all the games from the past couple years on ps+. Ps3/vita even though my PS3 has been disconnected for years and didn't own the vita until now. Can't pass them up.

Yeah, the interface is terrible*, but you've got a crazy-large collection of things to try out now, though. Congrats!

Did you get Uncharted: Golden Abyss while it was available? It was knocked for being a handheld version of an Uncharted game, but, you know...that's what it is. Once you accept that, I think it's an outstanding Uncharted game; I easily enjoyed it more than Uncharted 3.

*I sometimes wonder if it's terrible by design. If Sony pays devs per download of PS+ games, it's in their interest to make it hard for people to find their "free" games.

I don't think the interface is intentionally bad. On the PS4, any PS+ games you've chosen are very easy to find in your library, and that's the platform where most of the customers are now; if Sony were trying to make it harder for people to download PS+ games, that's where they would put up roadblocks. I think the likelier explanation is that the Vita customer base is so small that Sony doesn't feel the need to expend resources on improving their experience.

No I didn't get Uncharted. Not sure what month it was available, I missed it or I wasn't a plus user at the time. A lot of the games I've got listed I have for the PC, but the Vita will be so much easier to cart around than my laptop when I'm on travelling. I'll be able to pull it out and put it away much quicker, won't need an inverter or a wall plug to run it.

Well it's a lot easier on the PS4 because it blocks out all the free games that don't run on that system I think. It would be nice of each system did that.

Oh never mind, I do have Uncharted. I'm going through my owned games page by page making an excel sheet. I'm pretty sure when I searched it out yesterday and went to it's page it said I didn't own it, maybe I just wasn't logged in at the time.

According to the games listed as "Purchased," this is what I own:

The top section is what I've set aside to download first, based on the "top" vita games lists I looked at and my personal preference and game types. Some of them I've played before and some I haven't. Most I haven't completed. We shall also see what I can actually fit on my 64g card.

Let me know if you guys recommend something else.

Gravity Rush
WipEout 2048
Muramasa Rebirth
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Killzone: Mercenary
God of War Chains of Olympus
FEZ
Spelunky
Rogue Legacy
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved
Oddworld: Strangers Wrath HD
Grim Fandango Remastered
La-Mulana EX
Dragons Crown
Hotline Miami
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Day if the Tentacle Remastered

The rest of the games. Spoiler to reduce the size of the post.

I absolutely loved both Hotline Miami and Gravity Rush on the Vita. Played Hotline Miami later on the PS4 (or was it PS3) and it's just not the same; it's meant for a handheld. Same with Gravity Rush. The music in HM is also fantastic.

Yeah I try to get into the game on pc and ps4 and it just doesn't pull me in. I can tell the game had something, tons of people love it. I'm hoping you're right and it will sink in on the vita for me.

I have the Nyko Power Grip, but never use it because (like the reviewer below) I find the grips too long. I would like to try out one of L2/R2 grips, but they are harder to find now and I don't want to pay a premium. There is a crowdfunding campaign by one of the manufacturers to help properly gauge demand.

Also, I highly recommend Unit 13 and the PixelJunk games.
