Yeah, don't forget that PC games are still just glorified console games. 8GB console games.....I wouldn't build a gaming PC with less than 16GB.

What apps would you be planning on running concurrently to make use of the spare 12GB?

Enjoying BF4 on the PS4, bugs and all.

None of PS4 games are available for pre-order yet, though the PS3 and 360 versions of multi-plats are. Except for Watch Dogs; which rather concerningly is priced at $99.99. I hope that's not a sign of the new times. There is a limit to how much I'm willing to pay for games, and that is definitely beyond it.

NSMBU was priced at $99.99 before official pricing was known.

Yeah, I figure it's just a placeholder till pricing is announced. That does leave room for an increase though. Game pricing for the new gen is something we haven't discussed on here yet. I sort of feel going beyond $60 would really be pushing it. If they bumped up to $75, I'd be waiting for prices to drop and would be quite a bit more selective in the titles I purchase. Psychological barriers and all that. Economic barriers for a lot of people too.

I noticed that Jack Tretton mentioned games ranging from .99 to $60 a few times in his interview, so I am guessing that it will stay around $60.

Anything above $60 is a no buy for me but, I already use GameFly for almost all my gaming needs. I buy maybe 2 or 3 games a year, if prices go over $60 then I doubt I would even buy those.

If you factor inflation, we were paying a whole lot more than $60 for our 2600 games when new.

Yeah, I wouldn't have a problem spending a little more on games, since I usually get a lot of play time out of my games. I won't just go buy an action/adventure game day one that has an 8-10 hours story since I won't get my money worth. But I will pick up RPG's and Shooter since I can play those for a long time.

Don't worry, Amazon always puts a high placeholder for things in their system that don't have suggested retail yet.

I'll be very surprised if it doesn't drop to $59.99 or less in the next couple months.

As much as I love to support developers, now that most games can be had for half price, or at least $40, within a month or two of release, even if it's only a one-day online sale, I just can't justify day one purchases anymore. Uncharted 3 was the last straw for me. I played the SP campaign three times, got the platinum trophy, getting maybe 30 hours out of it, and that's it, since they cut all the tweaks that would've given the SP more replayability (as a casual player, I can't play that type of game online with any success).

Add to that the cost of pricey DLC for most games, and I think I'll just wait for GOTY editions for the critically acclaimed games. (I'm still kicking myself for buying Batman Arkham City day one, when I could've gotten a GOTY with all the DLC for $40 seven months later.)

I don't see that model changing for the PS4.

We also don't know how much of that 8GB is reserved for other system functions.

Yup, key word current development. Remember, Sony wants you to be able to power down your game instantly and power it back in right where you left off. Wants background downloads. Wants a rolling dvr of your last 15 min of gameplay ect.

From a simple load assets and engine into memory terms, yeah, its prob overkill. Allowing that and possibly completly getting rid of load times (hell, load in the next level as your playing this one)... as Joe Biden says, its A BFD.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would complain. My point is that there's no need for it (yet), and we shouldn't expect games to take advantage of it for a good while after launch. And even then, it will probably just be the first-party standouts that really push the envelope. Same goes for 8-core processing. It may resemble a PC, but it's still exotic architecture and will take time to fully utilize.

Exactly. We'll have to see what all it's for, and what will be available to developers. But devs now can breathe freely with a nice big fat cushion.

Considering the amount of ******** that companies milk via exclusive paid DLC these days, we'll be robbed if they increased the base price yet again, it's just wrong plain and simple.

e.g I'm a huge FF fan, previous FF games had immense amount of content all in the disc from the get go, these days I have to pay $5 for a God damn costume? REALLY?! Yeah I know I have the option of not buying such DLCs, but I'm a huge fan and I want everything that's related to the game I love, but being charged even more than $60 for DLC stuff alone is ridiculous.

There's NO EXCUSE to increase prices when you're going to charge extra for DLC that most companies plan for before launching the game, hell even some DLC content are already on the disc and you just pay to unlock them, such tactics disgust me.

Thanks for the info.

I was looking forward to getting the PS4 but after hearing most of the software is going to be cloud based and the game you buy is only going to work on the initial machine it's put in doesn't sit well with me especially this cloud crap.

It's Bethesda, third rate port companies do a better job bug testing than them.

Oblivion on PS3 was done by a outside company and it was much more stable than any game that Bethesda themselves put out on the PS3.

It's honestly a design problem with their engine philosophy. When you keep track of every instance of every object and person fiddled with in memory, and you do so on consoles, well...

They're very stubborn about getting rid of that Gamebryo engine, or even implementing their open world cacheing strategy differently.

The game ran fine on Xbox 360, though, the problem was that they had no business putting it out on PS3 if they couldn't get it working.

Eh, as far as I know the same issue persisted on the 360, although not as bad or game breaking.

That is true.

PC makers cant assume everyone uses 64-bit, so they code for 32-but 4 Gig ram limit.

All games for the PS4 will be in 64-bit mode.

I only buy niche games at full price (basically Xseed stuff and similar) purely because of self interest - the sales of those games are tiny to begin with and if everyone waits for the price to drop to $5, we aren't going to see these games in the future.
