My guess is maybe Guns of the Patriots was divisive for many, plus others were turned off by the "$30 demo" of Ground Zeroes?

Dunno... but I went from mostly uninterested to "wait -MGS5 is a 10 out of 10..?", then " I guess I should try Ground Zeroes" to "Holy Crap, this is amazing!!!".

TPP is straying from what we've seen in the past. More "open-world" approach and as such I suspect there is going to be A LOT less cinematic cut-scenes (comparing to 4). I am stunned people let this slip under their radar, but glad it is peaking interests. Looking forward to it and HOPING the MP doesn't suck donkey balls due to konami's micro-transaction model.

Nice, if you have Ground Zeros they patched in some sort of upload save to do something in TPP. No real news on what but looks to be stuff for your base.

Well MGS IV has such little enjoyable gameplay. I made it to some Puppet boss. It was just too many freaking cut scenes and too little of actual gameplay.

I stopped at MGS2 after finishing the boat. The next area just wasn't interesting to me (the Z.O.E. demo was cool). I don't remember much about three but I lost interest quickly.

From what I am reading there is a lot more gameplay and a lot less story this time! For me that is great news.

I also never really got as comfortable with the controls on the older titles. They just felt kind of cumbersome.

Cool!

Anyone having problems with connecting to the Ground Zeroes server?

Disclosure - I'm on XB1*, so it could be something on that end.

*feels wrong playing a MGS game on a non-Sony console!

I guess I can see how Ground Zeroes for $30 pissed some people off. I'm a MGS nut and I passed on Ground Zeroes because I saw from the reviews it was merely a "demo." I was waiting for a price drop and was planning on getting it just before PP to brush up on the series. Ended up getting it free through Plus and loved it.

I guess the cinematic stuff isnt for everyone, but the MGS story has always had some appeal to me so I never minded it. I like the way it adds to the game in the same vein as the Naughty Dog games. I think MGS 2 and Snake Eater were among the all time great games. I loved IV too, gave that two whole playthroughs as well, and I think it's just a shade under 2 and 3.

I honestly think the series just got lost in the console wars shuffle. People went to Xbox and missed out on a game or two and have kind of pushed the series to the side. People slept on God of War 3 too (f ascension) and some crapped on the game as well, which I thought was great.

I think things have become so fast paced, the slowness and thinking in this game takes a seat to fast paced action games and run and gun shooters like COD. This new generation of kids too, not to stereotype, but they were young when this series was "it" and many have that fast paced, instant gratification attitude to them. Easily ranks in my top 3 series in video game history. I knew Kojima was going to go out w a bang. His ego is too big to end this series with anything less than an epic title

And there just isnt any hype to this. It isn't being pushed by the gaming media or Sony to the level it should. Its like the core fans who love the series are like, we know this is going to be good, so just let it come.

I have three friends new to Sony, so theyve never played an MGS game. Ive been telling them this needs to be on their radar, no interest. In the last few days im telling them to check the reviews and the perfect scores. They are all passing and have no interest. Just think the appeal for this type of game and this series has passed. Like an old rock band that had their 10 years on top, and still make great music, but the times change and only their hardcore followers still buy their records

Could be mistaken, but Amazon might have some copies of the collectors edition if anyone is interested:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._st_dp_summary
@Rgdeuce part of me wonders also if Konami is also not interested in investing for marketing due to the major fallout between them and Kojima. Additionally with this being multiplatform, to some extent, I can see why neither platform is really boasting this game.

Hopefully once it launches more and more people with get drawn to it.

Meh some of the greatest games out there are niche. There will be a good community so I'm not too concerned about the online and with Kojima now gone its not like a sequel hinges on how well this sells but I think it will do fine.

Couldn't take the day off, too much going on at the office, and my son has his first soccer game after. Meh... Probably will only have time tonight to load the game and get the introduction video out of the way. My buddy just texted me an hour ago that he was headed down for a nap. He had been playing since midnight and only intended to get a few hours in

Good point and you are right. I think I just get frustrated that my buddies are missing out on such great games but will complain all day about the staleness of Madden and COD. People get too caught up in multiplayer/online these days and forget what it is like to power up a great non-online game and become immersed. Their loss.

Pretty much. I've learned to just find a crowd to enjoy that game with. Ghost Recon Future Soldier was that way. Nobody, absolutely no one I knew played that and somehow I ended up getting a crew in the game just by chatting with other people playing. Had an absolute blast. Didn't last too long but was a very good memory. That's where I see this going.

I do love it when someone whines about COD being a rubber stamp but not bothering to ever try another game and expand their comfort zone.

Can't wait to try the online but its been down so far. Stayed up to like midnight then was back up at 6. The intro is like an hour and a half. Its an interactive cutscene but pretty cool. I'm not too versed on the story so I'm assuming the baddies shown were known but I'm not going to spoil this yet.

THANKS for the heads-up on this! I hate when I have a couple minutes to take a peek at a game, only to find it's an extended cut-scene that I'll have to sit through again when I sit down to actually play.

How is the guide compared to Bloodborne guide? I saw it and am tempted. But I kinda want to just wander aimlessly.

I'm more of a collector of collector guides so I only skin through them. I still wander aimlessly.

I briefly checked it out and it's not a future press guide but it's much better than the prima collector guides I have. Seems very detailed and the artwork that I've seen in it was very well done. Recommended if you like collector guides.

There is a companion app. It has a nice satellite map on it that you can see enemies, that are marked, call in a chopper and some other goodies. You can also listen to the tapes you've collected.
