I guess I can see how Ground Zeroes for $30 pissed some people off. I'm a MGS nut and I passed on Ground Zeroes because I saw from the reviews it was merely a "demo." I was waiting for a price drop and was planning on getting it just before PP to brush up on the series. Ended up getting it free through Plus and loved it.
I guess the cinematic stuff isnt for everyone, but the MGS story has always had some appeal to me so I never minded it. I like the way it adds to the game in the same vein as the Naughty Dog games. I think MGS 2 and Snake Eater were among the all time great games. I loved IV too, gave that two whole playthroughs as well, and I think it's just a shade under 2 and 3.
I honestly think the series just got lost in the console wars shuffle. People went to Xbox and missed out on a game or two and have kind of pushed the series to the side. People slept on God of War 3 too (f ascension) and some crapped on the game as well, which I thought was great.
I think things have become so fast paced, the slowness and thinking in this game takes a seat to fast paced action games and run and gun shooters like COD. This new generation of kids too, not to stereotype, but they were young when this series was "it" and many have that fast paced, instant gratification attitude to them. Easily ranks in my top 3 series in video game history. I knew Kojima was going to go out w a bang. His ego is too big to end this series with anything less than an epic title
