Hi guys

Have a sony kdl hx 5582 55 LED and already experience lag between ps3 and the tv via hdmi. Game mode with all processing OFF is the best but still laggier than i would like.

I have an old sony speaker system and an considering buying the DENON AVR 391.

My question: will running this (PS3-hdmi-denon-hdmi-tv) increase any gaming lag that i already have?

I currently use hdmi to tv for pic and rcs cord from ps3 to my sony stereo for sound. the sound seems marginally ahead of the pic, especially if i watch a bluray (assuming tv does more processing).

Thanks

Also - is there really any point in getting one? !

Probably not then huh I have read multiple complaints about receivers adding delay more often than not.

Thanks for the useful replies.

My PS3 goes into my Okyo via HDMI and then the video ges to the TV via HDMI. I can't measure the induced latency, it tens of milliseconds and I could care less. I'm not a twitch gamer anymore.

I have Sony HTS-S360 HTIB (currently available as HTS-S380) all hooked up via HDMI. No issues.

I'm using the Pioneer VSX-918, and outputting multi-channel PCM via the PS3. The lag is at most ~24-25ms.

I'm using a Denon AVR-1909 with all connections going through HDMI, and I have no issues with lag.

Pioneer RX-V667 here. It was the lowest priced well-reviewed 3D capable receiver that I could find. I've had it a few months and have been playing PS3 and PC games on it via HDMI with no lag issues at all.

I just bought a Yamaha receiver and experience no issues at all. No lag. Before I didn't use a receiver just strait from PS3 to TV. No difference.

I had bought a cheaper Onkyo before the yamaha and had nothing but problems. Yamaha has worked perfect from day one.

I have a Denon AVR-1910 and don't really notice a difference. I do put my TV on Game Mode though which is supposed to reduce the processing in the TV to help reduce lag.

Is that a cross between a Yamaha and a Pioneer?

RX-V667 is a Yamaha model number

I game through a Yamaha RX-V663 hooked up via HDMI from the PS3 and to the TV. No lag problems here

Lag always exists. No such thing as zero lag. And it's bigger now than it used to be (thank you, HD generation).

But unless you're a seriously twitch-obsessed frame counter who plays fighting games and shmups at a very high level, you shouldn't notice a thing. If you aren't one of those types of gamers and you are noticing lag of some kind, then something else might be going on and you may want to start troubleshooting. The culprit could be any number of things, some fixable and others not.

Anyway, I just got a replacement AVR for my gaming setup from Onkyo after mangling the HDMI-out jack on the old one. No unusual lag issues with my old one (605) or my new one (509).

I think lag is usually more about the TV than the AVR.

replace TV with projector, and that's exactly my set-up. Nice to see another loser out there sticking with the 3805. I love that AVR and it's still running like a champ. I don't know when I'll upgrade.

Yamaha RX-V861 in my setup. Not sure if it lags or not, as I use optical audio and HDMI video from PS3 to TV.

With a quality modern receiver you're probably safe from lag no matter which one you buy.

I use a Yamaha RX-V665 with all HDMI connections and I haven't noticed any lag issues (at least nothing that would be attributed to AVR or TV).

Onkyo 509 here. No processing on this model so no lag to speak of. My Panasonic plasma is a champ too: less than 16ms of lag.
