Though I've been posting about this game on the 360 forum for some time now, I figured I may as well start a thread here (hopefully there are at least a few people playing this game on the PS3). I would have preferred playing it on my 360 first, but with the addition of multiplayer (don't have XBL Gold), I chose the PS3 version instead (will get the 360 version later on sale). I've put a lot of time into ME1/ME2 on the 360, but I have also managed to platinum ME2 on the PS3 as well.

Anyways, bought my copy at lunch and will give my impressions after my first go through.

I have played on both and plan on getting it next week on the PS3. I don't currently own a 360 so I'm getting the PS3 version. Do you like playing the multiplayer portion?

In general, I don't play a lot of multiplayer anymore (too addictive and time consuming), but I just like having the option of trying it out. The ME3 demo seemed pretty decent though.

Though I poured over 100 hours into ME2 during the first month of this year, and loved every minute of it (it's one of my favorite all-time games now), I'm going to hold off on picking up ME3 for a few reasons:

Current backlog
Waiting for price drop
Waiting for DLC releases that can be played alongside main story (as happened in ME2)
Only marginally interested in MP, so I can live with it if servers are dead by the time I get this.

I must say, it's really hard to maintain my media blackout on this. I did try the MP demo (but avoided the SP), and a lot of the programs I'm watching on TV are showing the ME3 trailer ad.

Played for about 5 hours today. Fun so far. Can't comment on too much since it's fairly early in the game. Feels and looks like Mass Effect 2, which is fine by me (I liked Mass Effect better than Mass Effect 2, but love them both).

I think PS3 owners treat Mass Effect the same way as Xbox owners treat Dark Souls. No emotional connection since the games started on other systems.

The codex just got releasd for iOS. It also receives additional messages by tying in with your ME3 game.

Just checking out ME3 on PS3 side. I played ME1 on X360, ME2 on PS3/X360 and ME3 on X360 because I wanted my original playthrough decisions saves since ME1.

Why is it so quiet over here on ME3 PS3 version? Looking at the week sales, it seems to suggest ME2 didn't capture as many PS3 fans since PS3 version sold less than 1/3 of X360 sales and there isn't any amazing PS3 exclusive to compete right now.

For PS3 players who do play ME3, how busy is the Multiplayer? Over the X360 side, most discuss in the last few days have been the endings and the confusion on Multiplayer Galactic Readiness effecting the single player EMS.

I played it on the PS3, but have been talking about it in the Xbox forum since PS3 owners here must be skipping it. Haven't played multiplayer yet.

No exclusive to compete? Only the greatest baseball game in the history of video games.

As far as why sales are lower, (shrug), I dunno. I can only speak for myself and it goes like this:

- The Show
- Kingdoms of Amalur
- Skyrim (yep, STILL loving that game)
- Battlefield 3
- My Game of Thrones BluRay disks
- Mass Effect 2 (still haven't finished it)
- Wife, kids, work...

But ME3 is certainly on my list

A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that the original Mass Effect is a 360 exclusive. Jumping onto 2 on PS3, you miss a LOT of the story. And with a franchise like this, that's a big deal.

I have never failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I haven't picked up ME3 only because I'm currently busy completing my perfect "canon" playthrough of ME2 to lead up to it. And damn, ME2's a long game if you're trying to do everything.

Just a heads up for Canadians... ME3 is on sale at Walmart for $29.99 already. If you haven't played ME2 yet, pick that up too and it'll probably be the best 50 bucks you've spent on gaming.

Off topic, $25 iTunes cards are on sale for $20 at Walmart too.

Weekend event this weekend and free Commendation Packs now available to make up for past events that weren't available to PS3 users:

Quote:

–PRIORITY TRANSMISSION FROM ADMIRAL HACKETT–

Attention N7 forces on PS3: We have great news. After working closely with PlayStation we are now able to offer you the multiplayer Commendation Packs for Operation Goliath and Operation Raptor, which were held previously this year. As of now, PS3 users can log in and check out the in-game store for their Goliath and Raptor packs, free of charge.

Rally your squad, prepare your arsenal, and get ready to give the Reapers hell.

Cerberus defectors have verified key intel on Reaper Banshees to help provide us a vulnerability to exploit. Banshees are created from a specific kind of asari that cannot be replaced quickly, so we are diverting forces to focus on an all-out Banshee extermination effort.

This task is an onerous one, and many of you are right to dread contact with these particular foes, but rest assured that we are prepared to reinforce your battalion with reserves. The vorcha want in, and as soon as they complete combined-arms training with our technically-skilled personnel, we will let them loose.

It’s time to make our enemies scream.
Allied Goal: Kill 3,000,000 banshees
Squad Goal: Survive until a full extraction on any map against any enemy on Gold difficulty.

Successful completion of the Allied goal will grant all players a Victory Pack.
Successful completion of the squad goal will grant all squadmates a Commendation Pack.

Operation-Silencer

Welcome to the next N7 Weekend Operation, Operation SILENCER, beginning this Friday, May 11 at 6:00PM PST until Monday, May 14 at 5:00PM PST, and all of our N7 forces from the PS3 platform are welcomed and encouraged to participate. Please remember to set the “Upload Gameplay Feedback” setting to “On” in the online options to be able to participate in this N7 Operation.

*Note that due to a known issue, PS3 users will not see the promotion screen but they will be participating in Operation SILENCER and will be rewarded.

Keep up the pressure, troopers. As you can see, N7 efforts to date have been bringing the fight right to the front door of our enemy. Our enemy is fierce, but we’ve got the might of the entire galaxy on our side.

Good luck and see you on the battlefield.

3 million Banshees is a lot, so please join the good fight!

Another Operation event this weekend; this one a bit more realistic than the last one that we failed and are now being punished for apparently.

Quote:

Operation Shieldwall Weekend May 25-27

The Reapers are targeting our training centers, and your mission is to draw their fire and attention. Put them on the defensive! Buy us time, and the reinforcements in training will soon back you up.

Allied Goal: Promote 50,000 characters
Squad Goal: Promote 3 characters
Special Circumstance: Due to the failure of Operation SILENCER, more banshees will spawn with Reaper enemies and might also spawn with other enemies.

Squad Goal Success: Squad members awarded a Commendation Pack
Allied Goal Success: All players awarded a Victory Pack (high chance of containing a Rare weapon)

Mostly buffs/nerfs and glitch/exploit fixes for MP. Still can't believe they haven't fixed the two SP side mission glitches in which manual saving or leaving the Citadel at an inopportune time during the mission renders it unfinishable. Seems like a simple fix in both cases, and they are known, well-documented issues.

Good to see ME thread over the PS3 is somewhat alive. Most of us (including PS3 gamers) been chatting over at the X360 ME thread. I like it better because we discussing about our ME experience than arguing over which version is better.

Happy N7 Day! Lot's of free goodies to collect on Bioware's website.

And if you are still playing the MP like I am, there's a free reinforcement pack to redeem that includes an ultra-rare item. But don't wait too long as these special packs usually have an expiration date.

Less than one month to go until Mass Effect 1 is available for PS3.
