On demand sucks, with very limited content available. It isn't remotely comparable to the full library available via HBO GO.

As a huge HBO series fan....I agree, that would be a problem...

So many great series in progress or recent....True Detective, East Bound & Down, Game of Thrones, True Blood, etc...

Missing new episodes on DVR, now that would suck, big time.

My experience with streaming, including HBO GO, outside of a tablet screen, would never offer the video quality acceptable here on AVS. Not PS3 specific at all. I hope that changes in the future.

On demand quality is also questionable, yet we still pay a significant monthly fee for the service overall. No good solution currently.

Options are good. I was just trying to point out (terribly communicated; I blame DWp) that you just need to tune into your HBO Live or HBO on Demand channel as a subscriber. I would not even waste time turning on a gaming console if I could avoid it. But, this is important for on small-screen viewing like an iPad but not a TV in the home with a cable box attached.

I've fed HBO GO thru a HDMI equipped laptop set at 1080 thru a projector onto a 120" screen .. I get a clean 1080 feed since HBO GO senses the resolution and adapts .. the PQ is as good as anything from Netflix or even VUDU on a 60 MBps connection ..

In my case, HBO GO certainly is worthwhile for large screen viewing .. and I'm sure when the PS3/4 app gets released, it will equally as good ..

And the On Demand selection on HBO is low on my CATV provider .. nothing like the HBO GO selection ..

Bring on the PS3/4 app, please ..

Any update on when this is coming? My XBL gold membership expired today, and I outright refuse to pay for it just to access HBO go. I basically can't watch HBO on my projector until this hits!

Great news on the PS3 app ..

I hope everyone is aware that you must already have and be paying for HBO on your CATV subscription in order to get HBO GO ..

I was so excited to see the PS3 app released today. Unfortunately after installing (and I really hope it's not universally the case) the video quality is the worst of all the streaming services I have. Compared to Amazon Prime app, the PS3 HBOGO app is soft, laggy and blocky. What a disappointment. FYI, I'm PS3 > LAN > Netgear N300 > Charter 30Mb.

On the plus side, the interface rocks. Hmmm ... rolleyes.gif

Huh. I just watched about 20 min of True Detective (Ep 3, and what a brilliant series it is so far) and while it wasn't as good as On Demand it was still good, on a 65" screen. Definitely not soft, laggy, or blocky. That's with a wireless connection to a router three floors up, and a PS4 downloading Dead Nation about six feet over...

Have you tried HBO GO on any other devices?

Relieved to know someone's getting a quality feed. Bummed it's not me. You say your On Demand is good?! Just wow. Mine is a joke. If Amazon Prime weren't so stellar, I'd give up on IPTV.

I'll try the HBOGO app on my PC rig later and let you know ...

Stream looks like a meh 720p, similar to Xbox. More annoyingly, I'm not getting 5.1.

Well, "good" is that the PQ is solid, no macroblocking, no obvious compression artifacts. Fast forward and reverse suck ass but as long as you can just hit play and pause it's fine.

Does anyone know why HBO.COM (not HBOGO.COM) doesn't show on the PS3 browser?

It's weird. The top left of the screen says "http://www.hbo.com/" but I get a blank screen, kind of divided into fours ...

And yes, JavaScript is on.

Watched 2 hours of GoT S3. Extremely relieved to say 90% of the time it actually looked good enough to get lost in. The time between my first look (posted above) and our sit down and watch was vastly improved. However, twice it stopped dead, little Windows 8 style circle went round and round, and finally buffered to its heart's content, then decided to run close to SD PQ. About 10 minutes later we're back to HD PQ. My guess is too many folk vying for not enough bandwidth.

All in all not too shabby.

If you're looking for the app, you'll find it in the Playstation Store.

No, I'm not. I just don't understand why hbo.com (the FULL SITE, not the app) looks the way it does on the PS3?

It must have something to do with the way the os handles hbo's content.

P.S. I realize this thread is on HBOGO, but I figure this is related.

I just got a smart tv that has hbo go, but getting it through my ps3 would be better because so far the ps3 handles all the apps better than my smart tv.

I watched a full episode of True Detective and I'd give the PQ a solid 8, compared to a 9 on HBO On Demand but there was no lag and it skipped once, compared to how it skips a few times for me on HBO On Demand. I think I'd rather watch it on my PS3. Fast forwarding and rewinding responded much better than On Demand and the interface is beautiful.

Can't wait for this to come to PS4.

I got the Roku as a Christmas present and was thinking, I would use it most for HBOGo, I don't have a subscription yet to HBO but will in a month or so when things calm down a little. Anyway, now it is available through my PS3 also, to my surprise as I did not hear the annoucement, I stumbled on it looking at store update.

I guess, I will try out both ways (Roku, PS3) and see which is better for interface, PQ, etc.

I downloaded the app for one of my PS3's last night .. although I had just finished a re-watch of GOT's, I watched episode one again last night since you can never have too much GOT's .. although I did spot a few dropped frames, otherwise the PS3 reported full 1080 and the PQ was at least as good as a Netflix HD feed and bordered on a VUDU HDX feed .. colors were well saturated, blacks looked great ..

Very happy this has finally come to the PS3 .. and there is an excellent selection of not only HBO material ..

PS3 HBOGO app crashed watching GoT Sn3 Ep4. I present the HBOGO BSOD:

To be fair, the ep ran well 99% of the time. But there was much buffering in three separate occasions, finally culminating in an unrecoverable error. Episode had to be launched anew, then scanned forward to manually "resume". Glad my Kindle doesn't do this. rolleyes.gif

I am having the same issues but it was so bad tonight I stopped using the app. My Roku HBO GO app crashes from time to time also but at least it's usable.Too bad HBO cant get their apps working properly. Netflix can figure this out, so I would bet these issues are deliberate.

basicaly unwatchable on my ps3. poor quality, either stutters or video-freeze every minute or less. tried on 2 separate nights, same thing. Vudu, amazon, Hulu, Netflix all stream fine on the same ps3 (which is hardwired), appletv plays HBO-Go better using wifi.
