I just bought a new Sony HT-SS380 HTiB to pair with my PS3 for watching movies. The HTiB can decode DD+ 5.1 and the PS3 is set up to bitstream DD+ 5.1 directly to the HTiB. However, when I play movies on Netflix that have DD+ 5.1 support, the receiver shows the signal as only regular DD 5.1, not DD+ 5.1. Is this a limitation of the Netflix app on the PS3 or is something else the problem? I haven't watched a BD yet that has DD+ 5.1 audio, so I don't know if this is a Netflix specific issue or something more general (like the PS3 or HTiB). So far, I have watched BD movies in both DolbyTrueHD and DTS-HD MA and the PS3 bitstreams these formats flawlessly to the HTiB, which lights up to indicate those formats in use. HDTV programming shows regular DD as does Netflix. However, Netflix is supposed to be DD+.

Hi PlasmaPZ80U, PS3 is working as should no dolby digital plus for Netflix or Vudu ... here is an email respond from Sony (back Sept 2011).

I do apologize at this time, we do not have any available information on when the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system will be able to bit stream DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS or when an update will be available.

Jacob

then isn't it false advertising when the PS3 Netflix app clearly lists the 5.1 audio as DD+ 5.1, not DD 5.1?

I just updated Netflix on my PS3 today, and I can confirm by my receivers display that DD+ is indeed being bitstreamed to my receiver. All I gotta say is about damn time!

DRC72 my exact feelings. I am convinced that new technology is relesed
in piecemeal fashion to entice us fanatics to keep buying more equipment.
I wish i had one single device that did Vudu and Netflix superbly. Instead I
have the PC (best Netflix PQ), Roku (fine PQ and DD+ Netflix) and a BD390
for best Vudu, really love that 2009 player, it outperforms the current labor camp
generation

The PS3 is very good no question., but then there are the non-gamers. I used to
love PS3 but instead of taking SACD to the bitstreaming level they just dropped it.

Still a bit puzzled how Roku 2 XS, a device the size of 2 matchboxes can display a superior
PQ to the Sony 590 and LG BP220 and 620 i tried and returned before it, but then
there is something called progress. I have not tried a Panasonic yet but my
conclusion is that the current crop of cheaply made players (even some of my kids toys
have higher quality front buttons) are inferior PQ wise, and I don't care if the Sony 590 even
has an Indie movie channel if PQ is poor.

Is DD+ relatively new to Netflix media streamers? Only Roku and PS3 have it?
