So I decided to go through all the PSN demos (about eight of them) that I've downloaded but never played, and Rochard turned out to be the last one I fired up.

What a genuinely fantastic little game this is! The play mechanics are pretty unique, the graphics are solid, the music has a cool '80s epic movie feel to it, the story line is decent, and the pace of the game flow is absolutely perfect. The developer did a nice job blending an action title with physics-based puzzle solving, and I found myself thinking that this was the kind of fun I wish I had with Portal 2.

At least give the demo a try; maybe you'll plop down $10 for the full unlock after finishing it like I did. I don't think I've been surprised as much by any other game this gen.

hadn't heard of this one. It does look like a nice combo of portal and a side scroller... just from the video though the controls look a little sloppy.

The controls are on point actually. You move with the left analog but the character stops on a pixel when you let go, unlike platformers Shank 1&2 where the character unfortunately keeps moving slightly after you let go to complete the animation. The right analog is to aim your special beam in any direction. Jumps are air controllable, and you have access to higher "low gravity" jumps by holding another button as needed. Ducking with a button (L2) instead of holding down is weird at first, but you get used to it.

Give the demo a try and see what you think.

Yeah, that pun doesn't work at all. Fortunately it is only mentioned in the promo videos. In the actual game his name is pronounced "Row-shard". TEST
