Today while I was connected online and had my Rock Band 3 game in, it froze up on me twice. It's a known problem with the PS3s and RB3 when you are online with it kicking you out to the XMB, but I've never had the game freeze up on me before. Twice no less.

Anyway, after giving it a couple of minutes to see if it would unfreeze, I decided to eject the game and that immediately rebooted the system.

Now, I've always been a Nervous Nelly when freezes happen because I'm afraid the system may crap the bed with rebooting, but since this does happen, what is the safest way to reboot a frozen system? Is it okay for me to eject the disc like I did, or should I just be pressing the front power button until it restarts?

Usually caused by the disc, not the system. Just unplug reboot and eject the disc.

Freezing happens to me a lot with Red Dead Redemption and few times with Battlefield 3, with other games I almost never had that type of problem, when that happens, I only press the on/off button in the PS3, it beeps once and after few secons then red light starts blinking, wich is a good thing because it means that the HDD is "parking" (if that word is still usable in this type of systems, sorry, I´m old school:p) and then two beeps and turns off, as safe as it can be.

I don´t eject the disk before turn off because if do so, the disc ejects but the system completely freezes, and can´t turn of with the "safe mode" I told before, and the only way to turn off the system is disconecting the power cord, wich increases the chance of damaging your system´s files.

Hitting it with a hammer is usually my solution to problems such as this.

500 gigs FTW.

I'd say just hold the power button until it shuts off/reboots.

That's what I normally do.

I know there was a specific loading animation that was causing my launch PS3 to freeze, but I thought a patch fixed the issue.

Have you been keeping up with your patches for RB3?

Yup, I am completely up to date on patches.

It's definitely something with being online with that game. Harmonix knows about it, yet they have said themselves they can't reproduce it or know how to fix it.
