I am now the proud owner of a new 250G PS3 Uncharted bundle. I've been wanting to play it since last year so I grabbed both the system and game as a very early b-day present to myself biggrin.gif. I am looking for recommendations on some good games to play, preferably platform specific. I have a 360 and a few games for that (Halo series, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fallout) but if graphics and sound are much better on the PS3 then I might splurge. So what should I get?

I'm a 'hooker' and a knitter. I guess that makes me bi-stitchual :). Crap I say

Graphics and sound are pretty much the same these days for multi platform titles, though the edge still usually goes slightly to the 360.

As to what games? HEAVY RAIN! Heavy Rain is why I bought a PS3 back in 2009. It was worth the 350$ all by itself.

Then Shadow Of The Collosus, a PS2 remake, but still a brilliant game that is still unique.

Then Dead Nation on PSN, a great twin-stick zombie shooter.

If you want a quality racing sim, then you already have a 360 where Forza 4 is the better choice. GT5 feels super-old, like an up scaled PS2 racer.

...both of which run better on the 360 that he already owns. In the case of GTA4, a lot better.

If you are brand new...

get the PS+ membership (3 months)...

then download all of the free games at the moment.

And keep downloading them each week.

The one thing as a late to the PS+ party...
I have all of these disk games so I dont have time for the free PS+ games.

In a perfect world, you no longer need to buy disks.

Also, remember that in October, if you spend $100 on PSN, you get a $20 credit. So if you buy PSN+, you are already halfway there.

I've enjoyed all these and still do from time to time:

God of War Saga - all 5 GoW games in one package.

InFamous Collection - InFamous 1&2 and the Festival of Blood episode all at once.

Uncharted 1 & 2 - might as well get the first two.

Gran Turismo 5 - Look for the XL edition which includes extra tracks/cars. It's not perfect but the gameplay is excellent. I enjoy it much more since I purchased a racing wheel and can't imagine going back to a controller.

Journey Collection - I have them as digital copies but a good deal 3 games on one disc.

I see a pattern here lol.

If you really inhale games quickly and like the downloads then PS Plus is a good investment. Like they said above, good luck making time for all the games. This stage of the cycle gives great value to new owners so go nuts and have fun.

Thanks for the recommendations! I will definitely check out the PS Plus. I have GT4 but I love racing games so GT5 is on the list of must-haves as is God of War and Borderlands.

Definitely Gran Turismo 5. I'm easily 200+ hours into it and still have plenty left to do. By far the best driving experience available on consoles. Some clunky menus, but everything else about it is top notch. And at this point, you benefit from all of the big updates, patches, and DLC that's been added.

You already got off to a good start with Uncharted, so I'd say your next step is to start digging into some of the incredible exclusive PSN offerings: Journey, Sound Shapes, Everyday Shooter, Dyad, etc.

Also, if you're into fighting games, the community's much stronger on PS3 than on 360.

God of War 3, both Ratchet and Clank games, and all three of the Uncharted games. Infamous 2 also, but I recommend renting it. It's a great rental, but I see no reason to own it. Even though I sort of do now because of Playstation Plus.

Yup. Same tired formula they've been using since GT 1.

Metal Gear Solid HD collection along with MGS4

Resistance is a damn good SP shooter with a twist. So is KZ2/3.

Ico / SOTC HD collection

Demons Souls for addictive RPG survival horror (Dark souls being the sequel)

Twisted Metal is great arcade car combat, but the online is thinning out and a bit buggy unfortunately. SP is classic, also has good local splitscreen if you got a bunch of friends.

I think it's important to think about how you game when asking for recommendations. Do you usually play by yourself offline, by yourself online, with friends/significant others offline, or with friends/significant others online?

I usually play by myself both on and offline but I would eventually like to play with others online. I am just a bit weary if I have to actually speak to others because I'm a female and get my fair share of 'get in the kitchen' comments in WoW, but I'm not sure how hostile it is on other platforms.

Demon's Souls was great, but the servers have been deactivated, so playing it now would only be half the experience it should be. Jumping straight to Dark Souls is probably the way to go here.

PS3's a bit better, the crowd seems to be older than XBox IMHO. Best thing to do is find a group and build a good friends list with like minded people who you can always play with.

Playing with the Rift-raff exclusively isn't much fun for us guys either. Least that's what I've found as I've gotten older.

Not true. They were supposed to go offline back in May, but Atlus extended them "indefinitely."

Also, when you load up the game (since I just checked), there's a message that the servers will remain online for as long as people continue to play--and buy--the game.

If you like RPG's, I think you would really like Demon Souls and Dark Souls. They are hard games, but only relative to the easy hand-holding games that are so prevalent today. Which leads me to the Uncharted series. They are fantastic action adventure games, but default setting is rather easy. I have been having a fantastic time with Kingdom's of Amalur: The Reckoning. I think it is multi-platform but it is so much fun. It's kinda like a dumbed down single player World of Warcraft with much more console-oriented action (choices being warrior, rogue, mage). It is so underrated in my opinion. The best sandbox type game I've ever played is Red Dead Redemption. There is so much to do and the horse animations are the best I've ever seen (yes, way, way better than Skyrim). My 0.02.
