I have looked around on the other posts but I can't figure out how should I set my ps3 to output sound to my receiver.Thank you in advance. Please help me frown.gif

NOTE: I WANT TO USE ONLY HDMI CABLE FROM PS3 TO TV. I DON'T WANT TO USE AN OPTICAL CABLE TO CONNECT PS3 AUDIO TO MY RECEIVER

my setup:

PS3 Slim --> HDMI --> 46' 3D Led Sony Bravia --> Optical Cable --> Receiver Kenwood KRF-V5300D ( Does not have hdmi inputs that's why I use optical)

My receiver does not support HD audio formats. It supports Dolby Digital / Pro Logic II / DTS. ( I have 5 speaker setup + sub)

Now to the PS3 Settings; Which should I select?:

1)

Settings --> Video Settings --> BD/DVD Audio Output (HDMI) --> Which option should I select? ---> Bitstream / Linear PCM

Settings --> Video Settings --> BD/DVD Audio Output (Optical) --> Which option should I select? ---> Direct Bitstream / Mist Bitstream / Linear PCM

2)

Settings ---> Audio Settings --> Audio Output Settings --->

A) Should I select HDMI or Optical?
(my ps3 is connected to my tv with hdmi, but my tv goes to my receiver that does not support HD audio with optical cable)

B1) If I select Manual Optical Setup I get these checkboxes:

Dolby Digital 5.1
DTS 5.1
AAC
Linear PCM 2 44,1 khz
Linear PCM 2 88,2 khz
Linear PCM 2 176,4 khz
Linear PCM 2 48 khz

B2) If I select Manual HDMI Setup I get these checkboxes:

Dolby Digital 5.1
Dolby Digital Plus
Dolby True HD
DTS 5.1
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
DTS-HD Master Audio
AAC
Linear PCM 2 44,1 khz
Linear PCM 2 88,2 khz
Linear PCM 2 176,4 khz
Linear PCM 2 48 khz
Linear PCM 2 96 khz
Linear PCM 2 192 khz
Linear PCM 5.1 44,1 khz
Linear PCM 5.1 88,2 khz
Linear PCM 5.1 176,4 khz
Linear PCM 5.1 48 khz
Linear PCM 5.1 96 khz
Linear PCM 5.1192 khz
Linear PCM 7.1 44,1 khz
Linear PCM 7.1 88,2 khz
Linear PCM 7.1 176,4 khz
Linear PCM 7.1 48 khz
Linear PCM 7.1 96 khz

Connect the Optical Cable from the PS3 to the receiver and enable Audio Multi Output.

HD audio is not supported via optical connections, and, in addition, your TV would only output stereo and NOT surround through its optical output. So, the best option is to hook HDMI to your TV and optical to your receiver. I can't think of a downside.

If you want your TV to have sound, like the post above says, enable Audio Multi output.
Set HDMI audio to auto or PCM.
Set optical cable audio to bitstream.

That's not true. The formats he stated his receiver will support are all supported over optical cable from the PS3, and are absolutely HD audio.

DD and DTS in 5.1 are fully supported over optical. My gameroom PS3 is set up in exactly this same way, HDMI to TV and optical to receiver.

If you don't want to go optical from the ps3 to the receiver (I'm assuming that you only have one optical in and want to listen to the TV via optical as well), then select HDMI for the audio out from the ps3. Then do auto setup. If you have problems with the results of the auto setup then report back to us.
