So I can go with another ps3 or I can go with a stand alone blu ray player and an apple tv

Someone said there were a lot better playback devices for cheaper than a refurbished ps3 slim version (220ish at ebgames) however I am not sure what they might be, what recommendations would you have

I do not play a lot of PS3, the only thing I ever play is FIFA - so it is not imperative that I get ps3 again, but if it is close I will

Last year mine stop working right. For $ 99, I was able to trade in for slim model with twice the hard drive. Call them...

Your fat one had a long life.
And for 99$, I'd go for it. If you are a fifa fan as I am, 9 months is a long wait.

My fat ps3 still lives on to this day. 60gb launch with backwards compatibility. I professionally repair these systems and suggest that anyone with a still working console to replace the thermal compound on the gpu(RSX) and cpu(BBE). It will give you tons more life and you will not believe how quiet your console will be afterwards. (ALL models) I personally use MX2 Thermal compound. It is not electrically conductive (unlike Arctic Silver 5 which I use on pc builds) and works very well with a durability of at least 8 years.

Same here, although I upgraded the hard drive a couple years ago. Everyonce in a while, I get game freezes and hard reboots of the system, happens more with certain games (looking at you EA Sports), so it may be hardware independent.
