Vudu and Netflix both use Dolby Digital plus as we all know. I have an old school fat PS3 and was wondering if anyone knew exactly how fat PS3's handle the decoding. I've looked through some other threads and have heard varied things, but I want to know if anyone knows a definite answer.
I know fat PS3's can't bitstream lossless audio from blu-rays. You must have them encoded internally and then be output as LPCM. Is this what the fat PS3's are doing for Dolby Digital plus as well?
I was recently watching Skyfall on Vudu and my receiver would display multichannel PCM, so I'm assuming that is whats happening. If it was downsampling to normal Dolby Digital I would assume that the receiver would reflect that. I own Skyfall on Blu-Ray as well and was just trying to compare the Vudu streaming quality. The video quality was decent but the audio left a lot to be desired.
So if anyone knows how the fat handles the audio please feel free to share. Also if you own a slim does it bitstream the Dolby Digital plus with it being displayed on the receiver?
