I know the issue has been resolved years ago. That does not change the fact that I no longer trust MSFT with my credit card info. I own both PS3 and 360 and will probably buy both the next gen systems. I do not subscribe to Gold though so any online playing is on the PS3. I do not play online much so I stopped paying for Gold years ago.

I did read about the required credit card on one of the sites discussing the new systems. It struck me because of my previous experience with them. I have looked for the reference but could not find it. For the record, I am not on any team here. I look forward to both systems and read both forums. Neither is perfect and both have issues that should be discussed. It is too bad that those discussions often turn to personal attacks.

Edit:
The article may have been in reference to the free trial without a redemption code as seen in the following link.

I had the same problem with the auto renewal, and it seemingly being impossible to remove your credit card from their system.

I think with these next two systems, both of the companies are going to really, really, really, really want you to have a credit card connected at all times. It will be interesting to see, if you want to sign up for Gold, maybe it would "require" a credit card to be linked to the gamertag. The same thing could happen with a premium version of PSN. I think they will specifically "prefer" you having a credit card linked, rather than just having "points", that can be purchased with points cards.

Reason being, I could be a super cheap guy, and just put $20 worth of points in my wallet, but never put anything else in there. When my $20 is spent, the wallet has zero in it. Neither company, and ESPECIALLY the big publishers, are going to want that to happen. They want to make sure that they have a seamless access point to your money, when, and wherever possible. So, with their premium online services, they could easily "require" a linked, and active credit card, for the account to be valid.

At the same time, what about the accounts for kids ? There are tons of parents that aren't going to be interested in having their kids have access to something that is linked to their credit card.

So in the Pinball thread, its already confirmed that the PS4 version is done.

Could the Ps4 be released earlier than expected (like May ?)

It doesn't sound "done" to me:

"We’ll be adding rendering tech for per pixel ray casting, area lights/shadows, point lights and screen space ambient occlusion (which is a fancy way to say even more shadows). We’re very confident that we can add all of these features on the PS4 and maintain the smooth 60 fps that you need in a pinball game.

We’ll also be updating the physics and gameplay on all of the DLC tables we release. The Pinball Arcade on PS4 will be amazing!"

If there is any game with a free pass to my pocketbook with just about anything that's released, it's The Pinball Arcade. Right now, this is the PS4 game I look forward to playing the most.

I'd say that's impossible for many reasons such as:
- E3 is in June, I can't imagine Sony unveiling the actual console at any time besides that.
- Some pretty big PS3 titles will be released this year, early PS4 wouldn't be good for those.

A November or December 2013 release date seems perfect to me, what I'm really wondering about is when will Microsoft release their next gen console, during the same time, before or after!

I imagine it's probably close to finished at this point considering the type of game it is.

Launch in May? Not a chance but probably playable games, on not dev kits, during E3 in June. With the launch expected in 9 months there's probably a lot of PS4 games that are pretty close to done. E3 is gonna be fun this year with all the impending hardware.

I'm willing to bet its done. But there is no way it would be released in may.

I Stll think a September launch, with GTA V would be an interesting thing. Imagine if they gave tons of cash to Rockstar, to secretely work on a PS4 version of GTA V, to be ready on launch day? Only thing is, they would have had to made that deal quite some time ago, for that game to be available for launch, unless Rockstar was working on a PC version anyways. Still, trying to port a working version, running at a higher resolution, with better textures, and have it ready for a September 17th launch, that's asking for a lot.

Yeah, Tuesday, November 19th is the more likely date.

They'd have better luck with a COD or Socom released around the same time. GTA just isn't as big if a deal as it was before.

A version that is significantly better the the PS3 / 360 version would be pretty huge. Remember the GTA V trailers ? They look almost too good to be 360 or PS3. Maybe it's the PS4 version of GTA V, but they just aren't saying anything till e3.

I still don't understand how people are buying CoD games, it disgusts me how much money they're making off selling these games on a yearly basis that are at best expansion packs, same game engine and everything with some little tweaks here and there, while at the same time there are developers who put their heart into making video games and they can't even dream about having such success/profit.

I enjoyed CoD4 a LOT, but after that the series was milked to death and I for one hope the trend doesn't continue on next gen. I know this discussion has been done a million already, but I'll sure take it over discussing any more BC related stuff lol.

Its still one of the best multiplayer FPS. I dunno why its success is surprising to anyone, every year they put out a polished game full of new content. It might be stale to some people, but its still a winning formula. There will be a new one every year for probably another decade.

It is the only 60fps shooter of any worth on consoles. I bought Blops 2 on the Wii U to support the system, but I bought the previous two games used to not support them.

Hopefully Battlefield 4 targets 60fps instead of better graphics on all Gen 8 consoles.

Im going to be terribly disappointed if BF4 isnt 60fps. If it isnt, they havent learned anything.

We must have played some very different games then.

IMO bf3 is a much better game then it was claimed to be. Always bringing you new content. Huge maps. To bad it was horrible on console though.

Lack of players in big maps was BF3`s biggest problem, in smaller ones it´s as great as pc.

Ps4 (as I read in some places) will offer basically the same as PS3, but with a lot more power, or "tuned up".

What interests me the most is the power consumption, we all know how many watts swallows our ps3.

Everything you are saying including kids accounts have been addressed on the 360 in particular. Family accounts with purchases to content can be controlled by the primary account at all times on the 360 or website.

As apposed to small corridor maps and small number of players in COD running on 15 year old ID Tech 3? Yeah, tradeoffs needed to be made, but I'm still having a ton of fun with BF3 on console. Gameplay wise, subjective of course, it is superior (vehicles, large maps, squad gameplay, classes, lots and lots of very different guns, bullet and projectile physics, destructible maps and environments, ect). and lets not mince words, if graphics are your problem COD suffers from the same issue of muddy low res textures, poor shaders and particle effects. Quite often more so than BF3, but thats because they want to keep that 60fps benchmark.

This is biting, but I tend to agree with a lot of it: Call of Duty has ruined a generation of gamers.

SP has take even a greater hit because of COD. AI has mostly taken a step back and Hard settings are no longer difficultly based on skill, but chance. Hard means only making your enemies omniscient bullet sponges and you a glass centerpiece.
