Detective work with the master himself is coming to the PS4 in Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments
Quote:
Crimes & Punishments will follow "the most important stage in the Sherlock Holmes series" and play out over eight investigations. The details of each crime will be deduced by players using Sherlock's ability to "imagine and reconstruct a past event by studying the key features of a crime scene."

Glad to hear it will be even quieter. Very impressive considering how small the unit is.

None of these people seem to ask the right questions..

Sure using a stepless fan the system is bound to be quieter then the ps3 "At Idle" or medium load

but notice they said " is generally much lower than it was on the PS3" well what that means is that at full load this thing is louder but how much ?

If devs really start taking advantage of the units power what are we in for as far as noise ?

I think that was geared more towards the 6x disc drive which is active until the game is fully installed. That remains the loudest part of every game system I have. (Even the Wii U is somewhat noisy with a disc)

This article was translated from Japanese so some context may have been lost.

Not necessarily. Generally the PS3 average was quiet too, until it wasn't. We also don't know which model they're comparing it too (I assume the quieter slim?).

I don't mind the fan spinning up while gaming, as I tend to filter it out with so much of my attention elsewhere. Movies, media, and idle noise should be as low as possible though.

Someone on Gaf who knows Japanese did a rundown of the original article, it was drive noise only that was mentioned.

Eat at Taco Bell for a chance to win a PS4.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/09/24/playstation-and-taco-bell-a-chance-to-win-ps4-before-november-15th/#comments

Thankfully you can mail in a post card because I never eat at Taco Bell. I might just go once and that's it. I didn't even go during the PS Vita contest. Hopefully it wont be as hectic as last time in which not everybody who won received a PS Vita.

You can always use an email address used for these kind of things and then putting down a PO Box as the address for people who have one if they don't want to put their house address.

I can't eat Taco Bell anymore. Everything is fake there. The so called "meat" or "beef", I don't know how they get away with calling it that. It's hardly edible. The cheese is fake. The tortillas are rubbery. The taco shells are made from some unknown substance that certainly isn't related to corn, lol . The only thing half way legit is the lettuce.

Some info on the PS4 audio controller. Looks like the dedicated hardware is just encoding and decoding compressed streams, the rest is up to the CPU/GPU.

Is there any info on PS4 and it supporting DLNA to stream files from my local server? I use this in the PS3 nearly daily and it is very high quality compared to the native support in my plasma.

I remember reading something the other day about how they initially planned to match the PS3 on media functionality, so I think it's a safe bet.

This was always my issues when I had a 60GB phat PS3. The noise never bothered me while playing games but, the fan would kick into overdrive about halfway though a BD movie and it would drive me crazy. The noise was the sole reason that we eventually bought our first standalone BD player and it was so nice to watch a movie without a vacuum running in the background.

I'm keeping my PS3 for this. I hope the PS4 does do DLNA in case the PS3 dies but I really like having one console for gaming and one for TV.

So just for media/OS and games will most likely be handled like they were on PS3.

Bit disappointing there, but I suppose they look for cost savings where it hits them least.

Well they offloaded the part that really matters. The encoding/decoding of hundreds of voices is what would have really hit the CPU hard. The mixing, filtering and all that stuff isn't a big deal for the APU. Given a choice between a dedicated sound processing block or more GPU units, I think they made the right call.

The 360 and PS3 have to use their CPU or GPU for audio, the 360 often devoted an entire CPU core to it. The Xbox One and PS4 audio processors handle the decoding, that way all the rest of the system has to do is put it in the game how the devs want. It takes a lot of the load off of the CPU at the very least.

Quick question guys, I'm trafdng in my PS3 today at gamestop with a 50% bonus coupon to put towards a PS4. I de-activated "games" and "videos" this AM on my PS3 before disconnecting for good. I also deleted my billing information. If I decide to get another PS3 down the road for some reason, I assume all i need to do is sign in with my PS+ account credentials and all my saved games and PS+ games will be available to DL and in the cloud, correct?

I have had my super slim shut off twice while watching a BD. WTH? This was with it sitting in front of 2 120mm exhaust fans. I had to take off the fan filters to get more air through.
My fat never had the problem, but that's anecdotal. My plain-jane BD player certainly does not overheat from playing a frackin BD.

AMD demoed some next gen audio on their stream. This video was posted on neogaf as an example of what they demoed. Use stereo headphones for full effect.
