I dont understand why Microsoft couldnt have set Xbox One Live up so it delivered a message similar to the following to Xbox One's that happen to slip into the wild early instead of the standard ban message:

"Xbox Live and all online features will be active for Xbox One consoles at 12:01am Nov 22nd 2013.
Untill then please enjoy all off-line features of the Xbox One".

PS4: 0.815 sone

According to the magazine, a "slight noise" is audible from 40cm (= 15.75 inches) distance.

It works, but won't stack with a current sub. So either you need to not have plus now, or let your current plus sub lapse.

Anyone thinking about purchase a protection plan for your new PS4? Think we need to worry about any YLOD or whatever issues the new console will have?

I'm going to after going through 2 phats in 4 years, just not sure which. Store plans are too expensive and too restrictive. Been thinking of SqareTrade, but would love other recommendations.

Also, apparently this is happening (a first?)

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/11/08/ps4s-playstation-protection-plan-pricing-revealed-extend-your-warranty-by-2-years-for-49-99-or-59-99/
Quote:
When you go to buy your brand new PlayStation 4 next week, you may be wondering about the warranty, should anything happen to your PS4.

While the PlayStation 4 will have its very own 1-year limited manufacturer’s warranty, you’ll be able to spend some extra money to get “24 months of additional coverage after your manufacturer’s warranty expires.”

Here’s a pricing breakdown for each PlayStation system:

  • PlayStation 4 – $49.99, $59.99 (Includes Accidental Damage)
  • PlayStation 3 – $39.99, $49.99 (Includes Accidental Damage)
  • PlayStation Vita – $39.99, $69.99 (Includes Accidental Damage)

If you decide to get the PlayStation Protection Plan, you can buy it from PlayStation.com, the PlayStation Store, or by calling (866) 716-7669. Once purchased, you’ll received these benefits:

  • Dedicated PlayStation Support specialists & 800 number
  • Claim processing available 7 days a week
  • No out-of-pocket expenses for qualified claims
  • Pre-paid shipping box
  • PlayStation certified technicians & genuine PlayStation parts

You’re able to buy the regular PlayStation Protection Plan at any point within the manufacturer’s warranty period, but if you want to buy the one with Accidental Damage, that needs to be done within 30 days of purchase.

My worry is the official replacement plan will just be using repaired / refurbished units like they did with my 2nd Phat, which still had the underlying issues that resulted in YLOD and did so literally a week longer than my first unit went. Both went YLOD at 26 months.

We will try and match specific replacement preferences such as equipment color, cosmetics, or features, but this is not guaranteed. The price of the replacement product shall not exceed the original purchase price of the original Product. If We replace Your Product, We will ship the replacement product to You. When You receive the replacement product, the damaged/un-repairable Product becomes Our property.

To those new, there is no harm in letting it lapse either.

IS Sony offering anything for an extended warranty like MS usually does? If they do then I plan on getting it from SOny. Otherwise it depends on how much the extended warranty from the Store where I get my PS4 is.

EDIT: I see TyrantII listed extended warranties from Sony. I'll definitely be getting it through SOny then if it's going to cover two additional years after the original one year warranty. Those are some decent extended warranty prices. Especially for the accidental protection one. I have no problem with getting a refurb. That's nothing unusual anyway for a piece of electronics. ANd if the refrub has gone through more rigorous testing, I would prefer that over a new one anyway.

The controller has a headphone out port, but the quality is an unknown thanks to the wireless nature of it.

The system is a brick without the day one update, Microsoft confirmed that a few days ago. The system boots up, does the basic setup for internet then tries to fetch the update. (Until updated, the drm is still in place, you need an internet connection to do the initial setup) If they blocked the update, then nobody can use the system until they unblock it. I normally wouldn't either, but the problem last time around when mine failed was the refurbs were launch units and had the same underlying Hardware faults, leading to another failure. I ended up spending $1000 on just Sony hardware this gen as a launch adopter, and I'm not too happy about it. I'm going to make sure I don't go that route again unprotected, and I don't want a Sony refurb in any case.

Still need to read through SquareTrade, but I'm assuming they just replace it with a new unit. Since I'm not expecting it to go out soon, and VISA also covers it for 2 years, they'll most likely be revision hardware out by then without any quirks. I also don't expect anyone but Sony (through their warranty program) to really offer "repairs". So it'll be replacement programs through VISA/SquareTrade, right?

So goes my thinking.

I'm doing SquareTrade also. Their warranties are very good and will likely be a new system. Prices are great also. Had a claim on a receiver with no issues.

Do you (or does anyone) know where to look for "coupons"? Heard of some people applying them for a % off the price, but no idea where to look or when.

Going to need warranties for my new Nexus 5 and the PS4. Man, this is a expensive month...

SquareTrade info:
Sign up for their emails.
Can purchase warranty up to 30 days after product purchase.
Plan to get warranties for multiple items.
Wait for email with promo code.
When you buy a warranty, they will give you the same discount for each item after the initial item in the same day. You will see the discount in the cart.
That last part just happened to me last week, it is not published info.

Those coupons for SquareTrade warranties come to me from time to time from the company in the form of an email. Right now, I have ST warrantees on my Sammy plasma and Pioneer ELITE receiver. Both are for 3 years and cost less than $100 each.

I generally delete the coupon emails (usually 30% off) since I don't need them. Last one I've got is from July and is expired. I think you can sign up on the company website to receive them even as a new customer.

I know about the initial update - wasnt asking about that. I meant why could microsoft not display a message that xbox live for the xbox one is unavailable and would not be activated for use until nov 22 instead of a ban message.
I mean all they would have to check is:
1) Is this an Xbox One ?
2) Has the initial update been performed ?
3) Is it Nov 22 or later ?
Seems pretty simple.

How do you get the b2g1 deal if you don't get an email? I don't see any mention of it on Amazon's website.
