The only way the 30-day trial stacks with a full PS+ sub is if you use the trial first. You can apply your 1-year sub at any time.

I don't use my credit card either, but that's so I don't increase its balance - either I only buy stuff with (PayPal) cash now.

Even if adding a trial code requires a CC, you can delete the card's info from your SEN account as soon as you use it for its single purpose.

I just picked up the digital code for Marvel Superheroes from Amazon and noticed a few things.

For one, inputting the 12-digit code is easier than on the PS3 in two ways. If you tap the R3 button, you can use motion control to aim at the letters and numbers, which is faster than D-Pad entry. Also, you can now enter all twelve characters in one cell. On the PS4 you could only enter four characters at a time in three cells, which takes a lot longer.

Another thing I noticed once I started to get the game from the PSN servers is that I was wrong about the slow download speeds on Sony's end I complained about last week. I recently switched from the auto-assigned DNS servers from my internet provider to the Google Public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 primary DNS, 8.8.4.4 secondary DNS) and my download speeds are now reaching my max allowed.

Oddly enough, google DNS is hit or miss on my end. My Wii U won't even connect with them and my PS3 would randomly sign out. I'll give it another shot on my PS4, but I have gotten better results with my ISP DNS lately.

I've seen random sign outs on the PS3 using Google also. It works everywhere else though. Open DNS is another set that works well.

Edit: it is tomorrow on the other side of the world:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology-science/technology/playstation-4-launch-live-news-2860242

It will easily surpass the xbox. At worst it sells 500k which would easily put it at 1.5mil +. Add in the sales for black friday in the US, say a platry 250k (unlikely) and we are at 1.75mil. Fast forward to 2014 and Japan launch, another 1mil could be achieved. Worst case scenario by end of fiscal year 2013 Sony has 2.75mil install base. Though realistically EU is likely to see 1mil plus in sales, Japan the same if not more. 3mil install base or more by fiscal year end.

Xbox suppose sells another 1mil worldwide? 2mil installed? Black friday sees 250k this season? Many reports indicate places with tons of extra xb1s in stock (including Day One Edition).

Sony gambled hard this year and it is already paying off! Hopefully Microsoft learns a good lesson that benefits all gamers and we see devs actually bringing games, innovation and change that we want vs what they think we need.

Wii U had 2 million sold as of December 31st, numbers past that point are sketchy since they stopped reporting sold and only shipped. (3.5 million shipped as of March 31st) Still, anything in that ballpark needs to be taken in that context.

I opened the dmz for the ps4 and opened all of the ports for it on the router, so I'm getting about 7 megs a second, which is pretty good for my rural area.

I was using the DNS numbers that darthrsg posted, but the Google DNS numbers are much faster for me in both the Internet connection test and actual downloads. Downloading Contrast took about 7 minutes to download the 2.3GB file in its entirety, including the title update. I've never used the Google DNS numbers before, but have never had an issue with the others as I used those on my PS3. No random sign outs, etc. If something arises I'll be sure to complain about it on here as I normally do. biggrin.gif

I was getting 12-15Mbps down on average before. After putting the Google DNS numbers in, I'm now getting a consistent 29Mbps every time, regardless of time of day. PS4 has a static IP and is in the DMZ as well.

A gross oversimplification of course, but even though 70 gigabytes per second sounds like a huge number, it's actually pretty small by today's standards.

Pretty good explanation using basic terms. Thanks, that makes sense.

It could potentially increase your web browsing speed, if your current DNS server is slow. You could need a few dozen DNS lookups for a big page. For a file download, once the connection is established DNS is completely out of the picture.

Best way I can think of to describe it is that DNS is like the yellow pages of the Internet. It translates names into the address you need to get there. Once you know the address, you don't need to look it up again, because you remember it. A slightly quicker address lookup won't affect how long it actually takes to drive there.

If any tech website is claiming changing your DNS server will increase your bandwidth and file download speed, or especially any lag in online games...you should probably stop reading that site. smile.gif

Where did you change your DNS, on your router, or your PS4?
