Early stores predict $600-$900
Nintendo wishes, Wii U sales would explode if that was true. Thespike they saw from the Xbone announcement would be a drop in the bucket.

There's NO WAY in hell they'll charge people more than $599.99, hell I don't see them charging more than $499.99, specially since not too long ago Sony said something positive about the console's price.
Paulo Teixeira's Avatar Paulo Teixeira 11:25 PM 05-31-2013
Those are obviously placeholder prices until they find out what I'll really cost and at the same time, US prices are usually far less than UK and EU pricing.

$600 will make me keep my ps3.

MS doesn't even need to be in cahoots with the NSA. There is a guy that works for Microsoft, and his name is "e". He is a NSA operative / double agent. They already have their man on the inside !

$499 is the ceiling (imo) on both of these boxes. Remember, they had to spend very little this time on R & D because they went with off the shelf parts. There might be a premium model that goes above $499, but both companies will have a $499 version (or less, maybe $449.99)
redshift1's Avatar redshift1 01:30 AM 06-01-2013
My guess $599 and $499.00 depending on memory.

Probably includes a game.
joeblow's Avatar joeblow 02:05 AM 06-01-2013
Zero chance that a PS4 goes for $600. Absolutely zero.
moepoker's Avatar moepoker 03:41 AM 06-01-2013
I agree....but if it is....I'm out. I'm expecting a 449 and 499 option.

Nah. Even the article says they're placeholders. Quite often it isn't even the stores but the databases they license who provide product information.

I think Sony learned their lesson on price with the PS3. Add to that, the economy is in much worse shape that the PS3 launch and I expect prices to be $4-500.

I'd buy 10 of them at $4 each.

PS4 may beat Xbone to 1 billion units if they sold at that price! eek.gif
blklightning's Avatar blklightning 10:54 PM 06-01-2013
They only list them at 1000 for preorder purposes. If they listed it at 400 and it ended up costing 500, they would have to sell it to you for 400 since that's the price you preordered it at. Same goes for the 100 dollar games.

Thats from Sonys DualShock 4 video for PS4. Seems to confirm the PSEye will not be bundled with every SKU if at all.

$399 PS4? looking more likely!

Nice catch!

$399.99 PS4 alone and $449.99 for the move bundle? Imagine that along with Xbone going for $499.99, Total annihilation I'd say lol

Yup, that looks like a confirmation to me. Nice!

Or $450 & $500. I'm just saying...

Okay, I'm an XBOX only player since the original black monolith, so this is my first post in the "enemy" camp. Word is that MS is locking out all peripheral controllers on the Xbone, including the current crop of Fanatec racing wheels. If the PS4 allows compatibility with my CSR wheel, I'm jumping ship.

Yeah that seems pretty conclusive assuming nothing changes between now and E3 or launch.

Yes, no backwards compatibility. The only hope is that Fanatec will create their own adapter.
Leo_Ames's Avatar Leo_Ames 12:53 AM 06-03-2013
Fanatec has a licensing agreement with Microsoft. So I really doubt a workaround for their existing Xbox 360 compatible products would happen. That sounds more like something like a company like X-Arcade would do that works around Microsoft's licensing requirements for controllers to enable compatibility.

Hopefully Sony doesn't follow Microsoft's path and instead keeps the same attitude that they had with the PS3. I like it that I can use my expensive PC flight stick and throttle combination on Birds of Prey and Birds of Steel, that the same Logitech wheel I used in a few PS2 games can be used in games like Gran Turismo 5, that I could've bought an official adapter to use my PS2 controllers if I had wanted to, etc. I know they locked out a few things a few years back but it's so much more open ended and friendlier for the consumer and the developer this way.

Gaming investment analyst Michael Pachter thinks the PS4 will launch at $350:
Quote:
For the PS4, we remain confident that the new console will have a lower initial MSRP than the PS3, which had a lofty starting price of $599 that we believe negatively impacted its long-term popularity. We expect the PS4 to debut at $349, as our estimate of the bill of materials is $275.”

That would be crazy. It would also make it really easy for me to jump in day one and just wait on the XB1 for a while.
ThumperII's Avatar ThumperII 10:43 AM 06-03-2013
If that is the case, I think the Xbone will be lower too. It would be incredibly arrogant of them to repeat the PS3 mistake.
joeblow's Avatar joeblow 10:45 AM 06-03-2013
"Crazy" and "Pachter" are two words that have appeared in many a sentence across various forums. Still, I'm guessing that shipping, marketing, etc. aren't factored in which would push his best-guess retail price to $400+ per unit produced.

EDIT: My mistake.... he thinks the PS4 costs $275 to make and $350 is his retail guess with everything else factored in.

I doubt that includes labor and distribution costs though. If the BOM really is only $275, they could even price it at $300 or less to really put the screws on their competition. Being so initially aggressive on pricing, combined with the direct targeting of gamers, the ones most likely to be early adopters....it could set the stage for PS2 levels of dominance.

I agree. But I really doubt it comes in under $400, especially since the ps3 is still being sold for $299.
pcweber111's Avatar pcweber111 11:23 AM 06-03-2013
Regardless I think we can all agree that we won't hear them utter "$599 US DOLLARS" again. For me anything $400 and under is more than acceptable in a new system. $350 would be incredible but I'm not holding my breath.
RemoWilliams84's Avatar RemoWilliams84 11:38 AM 06-03-2013
It won't come in that low ($299) even if they are making a profit at that price. Why would they? They could still easily sell it at $399-449 the first Christmas and still sell every unit on the shelf to early adopters. Then they still have plenty of room to drop the price as soon as they see that supply is outgrowing demand and spur another round of buyers.

The only way I see them going that route is if they have a huge inventory of consoles and they think that could be the final straw to sway hundreds of thousands of xbox gamers in the PS4 direction.
