@Yrd when you say the metal thumbsticks can make thumbs sore I'm hesitating getting them. I do not have construction hands.

Ok, I got a bunch of those included with my speakers. I don't have that much gear and none of it is stacked on another so I have no use for them.

Just the term isolation cone made me picture something else. How the hell do you use those cones you put around a dog, on your electronics.

Actually, I have now been adding the rubber feet for the botttom of chairs (so they don't mark the floor) you can buy at Home Depot to add space and they make everything sound 300% better.
There was something fishy about your numbers, so I did some research. I think you are buying the plastic chair bottoms, to ease sliding and reduce noise and marking. That's why your sound improvement is only 300%. If you use true rubber spacers, then you should get at least a 500% improvement.

Man I've got to get some of those spacers!

I have a pile of those BBC cones pictured above (the brass coloured ones), some ceramic cones (very expensive), and these Black Diamond Racing cones: http://www.musicdirect.com/p-383-bdr-cones.aspx

I bought them in university when I had succumbed to the snake oil of my local audio shop. That along with my $1500 Cardas ICs and speaker wire. Well, at least I am still using all that stuff.

The isolation cones when placed under a PS4 make it backwards compatible to all PS3 games.

Question HD benchmark/test/analysis of the Playstation 4's video output(s)?

Has anyone recently done an HD benchmark/test/analysis of the Playstation 4's video output(s)? The only such test I've found so far is here, and it was done on Dec. 17th of last year, and there have been many system updates since then. I don't currently have a Blu-ray player and I'd like to buy one, and I'm considering the PS4, but I'd like to know how accurate it's video output is, at least when playing 2D and 3D Blu-rays and streaming from Netflix, YouTube, and similar services in both 2D and 3D. I'm not really a 'gamer'; the only reason I'm considering a PS4 is it is more powerful than a regular Blu-ray player, so it'll run apps faster, and I'm sure that PS4 apps receive updates more frequently than apps on regular Blu-ray players.

If you're looking to get a PS4 just for streaming and apps, I'd advise you just get a Blu-ray player. The PS4 doesn't have many apps and it does not have YouTube.

Drew, you're right on target about the updates part. That was the #1 reason to own a PS3 since the Xbox 360 didn't play blurays. Blu-Ray players makers seemed to have zero incentive to pay the software team for continued updates whereas with consoles the makers are forced by competition to update continually.

But the PS3 does? Wtf? I'd just get a PS3 as it still does things the ps4 doesn't. Is this still correct?

The PS3 has quite a number of apps including YouTube, where the PS4 is lacking. I'd go PS3 if that's the type of thing he's looking for.

Theres a lot to be said for continuity. I agee that since he's not a gamer, the PS3 would be a better option.

Honestly, I think he should seriously consider an xbox one. The PS3 does everything, but it's tediously slow to switch between apps and future support is questionable. The ps4 is lagging behind in terms of system and app updates and still takes a while to switch apps, and it's interface really isn't meant for someone that's not a gamer. The xbox is much better suited for someone who's not a gamer but wants a streaming/app platform that's more powerful, frequently updated and should last a long time.

Except for the concerns I've seen about xb1 netflix and apps not having proper 5.1 sometimes, I agree about getting that instead of ps4. Stupid Sony won't release IP control for the PS4 so the Kinect makes for a better media-only usage.

Alternatively, I made my dad get a ps3 for bluray and streaming and he prefers the controller over the ps3 remote. He is an anti-gamer.

One issue I have with the PS4 is black level. On auto rgb range the blacks are just crushing and too dark, on limited, everything is a little brighter but seems a little more washed out. I only have this issue on the PS4. Every other console is fine on auto rgb and even on the PS4, movies from a blu ray source and Netflix look fine set to auto. It's quite annoying.

I'm not having the same issue, can it be the calibration?
Just the other day I used the same disc to calibrate (much better than none) my PS4 and Blu ray player and am quite happy to see they are nearly the same for color and overall image quality. Happy because I don't feel the need to switch the PJ settings between these sources.

I love Netflix on the PS4. The picture looks great and the menu is nice, on the xbone its grainy for some reason and the menu sucks. Prob Kinect oriented but even the layout is awful. Have yet to try a bluray in either. YouTube isn't even a concern of mine. Typically just use my phone lol.

PS4 streams far faster than anything else I've used, which includes Panasonic 110/210, Panasonic 65st30, PS3, and Wii U. It is especially noticeable via wifi. I can hardly stand the PS3 now. I've never noticed a decrease in picture quality.

It may be. I'm using D-Nice's settings (ST60) and have read of other people having a similar issue. That isn't to say it couldn't be calibration though. I guess I just find it odd it's not happening on any other devices you know?

I wouldn't have (had not) considered it before reading the setup manual for my PJ which stated that for best results each source should be calibrated individually.
Being a television I'd copy the current settings and try a quick calibration using the PS4's bluray player.

I have the S60 (lower than ST60) and the PS4 set to full/non-standard and I get no more crushed problems. I did originally have crushed problems when everything was default.

Agreed. And don't forget last gen consoles (360, PS3) video apps were limited to 720p and auto scaled to 1080p (so that it shows 1080p) so you are getting lower resolution

Have I been using thumbsticks incorrectly since 2001?

Weird question right. I've always put tip of thumb in the concave part, is my thumb supposed to cover the whole top or is that just something large hands must do?

I bought metal sticks that make my style impossible since the thumb slips all around inside the concave and I have no precision.

Everyone has a different style. I put the crease of my thumb in the middle of the stick, and I do little flicks when I need to make precise movements.
