UNfortunately I'm not that young(If I was a federal government worker I could retire in a few years). I dumped all my records in 1985 for CD and then went to Minidisc in 1995. And then went digital in the 2000's. Now everything I use is in the cloud or on one of my servers. Whether it's movies or music it's much easier just streaming it. I try to avoid local playback. I also don't use Spotify.

Yeah, I didn't play 400 bucks for a MP3 player.

I get it's something we come to expect, but it's not something I miss. Overall I think this patch is great progress.

Warning: I make a lot of mistakes but occasionally I learn from them!

The problem with The Cloud is that on a clear day, you can't access your content. Like, if there are no clouds in the sky, you have to wait. Am I right?

Well I don't know if it has to do with age, I'm just rounding 30 and I agree more with you than the other guy. Besides I don't believe Spotify or another music streaming app is going to do me much good when I'm want to play my music instead of a game's repetitive background music. There's just something about playing a good game and dominating to the sounds of your favorite artists and guitar riffs

Quick question about controller battery life....

Ok, so I've been having a problem with my controllers needing to be charged way too often. My wife is really only using the PS4 for netflix / amazon, so why is the controller dying all the time ?

I have it set to turn off after 10 minutes of non-use in the settings. (wish they had an option for 5 minutes)

I totally understand that when I'm playing Infamous for 6 hours straight, and then it's very low or near dead, but Amazon ? Netflix ?

Still calmer than you are...

I'm one of the lucky few who get about 7-8 hours of playtime out of my controllers. Granted, I turn them off when using Netflix, and I don't plug them in when the system tells me that it is getting low. In fact, I just let them run down all the way until they shut off, unless I'm playing with friends.

I dunno man, other than the battery life I still feel like it's the best controller ever made. But it seriously needs to last at least 2-3 times longer than it does.

Dude, just stop.

Anyway,

I have found the controllers battery life is same whether gaming or not. Continuing to bring it up in this thread since last November will not make a difference.

The replaceable AAs in the Xbox controller is nice, but I had more "oh crap I can't find AA batteries" in the middle of my BF3 games on the Xbox than I've been where I couldn't find my emergency 10' USB cable for the DS4 but in fairness I was forced to buy that cable before I just bought a second DS4 and the charging station.

Subjectively, the included 3.5 stereo/mic port in the DS4 makes it a better value than better battery life on the Xbox side.

Whenever I hear about PS4 controller issues, this image comes to mind. As any American adult can attest, this is exactly what it feels like when you first pick one up.

My ds4. One owner, one user, 3 games and zero multiplayer later...

My original 360 stick from 2006 and 40000 xbox gaming points later (my ds3 is in similar shape as well)

I get 5-6 hours play time IF I am lucky, triggers that are too small and squeak, useless touchpad, oddly placed start and select buttons..oh wait they aren't called that anymore, and the entire stick is an ergonomic nightmare just like all the dual shocks before it.

Last time I am mentioning, I swear. But the best stick ever made? I have been gaming since the late 70's and this stick, as much as I like my ps4 ... the ds4 is junk.

You have a bad controller. There was clearly a manufacturing issue that caused the peeling. That is not something that every DS4 does. According to the numbers you've indicated I've played both of my DS4s considerably more than you have and I do not have peeling issues on either.

It's not an ergonomic nightmare and you're in the minority if you believe so. I can use both the Xbox and PS controllers without issue, but if you want to point to bad ergonomics look at the bumpers on the Xbox controller. The only time In my life, since NES days, I've had issues with a controller effecting a game was playing Bioshock on 360. The bumpers made cycling through weapons a crappy experience and I've hated them since.

I don't exactly love the controller but don't dislike it either. I bought some thumbstick rubber protectors after this wearing issue came to light and they have been fine. I actually prefer the Xone controller, but it's all subjective.

I like the PS4 controller, just not the battery life. My XBOne controllers with the Nyko rechargeable batteries get three to four times the life of the PS4 controller. I'm still hopeful they come out with a newer PS4 controller that has a longer battery life.

I've never had an issue with the controller sticks peeling, but reading about it made me go and pick up some thumbstick covers. Actually, I was in K-Mart and saw a 2-pack for $4.99. They are technically made for the 360, but fit perfectly on the DS4 and are concave in the middle. I used them on my 360 controllers for years and loved them, so I figured I'd give them a try on the DS4. Very happy with the results. They haven't come off since!

Launch day controllers here and the PS4 is played daily. No issues at all with the peeling. They still look just as good as day 1. DS4 is also a fantastic controller. One of the best.

Are you sure it is turning off? I only ask because I have mine set in the main menu to also turn off after 10 minutes and there are plenty times after sitting for 30+ minutes it is still on.

Most of the times this happens when I am gaming and step away while still in a party and always thoughts it was because the audio being fed through the mic tricking the controller into thinking it is in use, but then I noticed it the other night watching something...it never went off.

I have two DS4's. The one I set the system up with always shuts off after 10 minutes. The extra doesn't, well doesn't always. I'm not sure if the console triggers it or programs the controller to shut itself down but my PS4 shows 10 minutes for both controllers and only one consistently shuts down. Now that you can turn them off without hosing Netflix it hasn't been an issue.

I have three...two I use with my PC, one with the PS4. The ones on the PC seem to last a lot longer, prob because I can dim the light way down and I can turn it off on demand. Best thing about it is that you can turn the light into a battery meter, so it goes from green to red as the battery runs down....makes it a lot easier to know when you really need a charge before it's too late.

That must be what is happening. But why would it do that ? Why have the option to set it to turn off after 10 minutes, and then it doesn't turn off ?

Is there a Blu Ray type remote for the PS4 ? Like they had with the PS3 ? This issue is really pissing me off, because my wife and kids use it for Netflix / Amazon, and then I come home and want to play a game for an hour or so, and all my freaking controllers are dead.

Just very irritating.

Same and I have I used a DS4 on my PS3 heavily as well. Looks flawless.

The battery does seem to last longer on the PS3, I am thinking less functionality (no speaker use and probably some other things as well)with the PS3 is the reason.
